On the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 5, Bruce Felps had what was originally diagnosed as a brain aneurysm. When he arrived at the hospital that night, he was in a coma. The initial prognosis was bleak. His condition was inoperable, and doctors didn't think he would make it through the next day.
But on Thursday the doctors were able to remove some fluid from his brain, and Bruce had stabilized somewhat. The good news was that his respiratory system was working fine.
However, while a functioning respiratory system is a good sign, it is only one of more than a hundred. As of Thursday night, doctors said they would not really know anything for five to seven days.
Ultimately, the brain trauma was too great. A week after the initial incident, it was decided to remove him from life support. And on the morning of Thursday, Oct. 13, Bruce passed away peacefully.
