Whew! We're glad that this week is over. I have to say that this has been one of the most challenging weeks we've had since we came back from St. Jude last summer. Brogan has had a hard time adjusting to his new appetite stimulant and therefore, he has barely eaten anything all week. Because he basically has an empty stomach, he has an even harder time taking his chemo and he's ended up getting really, really sick to his stomach at least 3 days this week. I know that there are so many other children who have had to endure long bouts of vomiting and nausea and I am grateful that this is temporary but in the meantime it stinks! We got over the pill swallowing hurdle on Thursday so that's a positive thing but we can't get a hold on his eating. Everyday I've prayed and prayed that everything will balance out. We have to give the stimulant time to work so this week should give us an idea of it's effectiveness. I just hate that Brogan has already lost weight and I keep thinking about our options and how bleak they are. We may get to the point where we have some crucial decisions to make about his medicine and I know that God will guide us but it is a bit scary to think about. My heart breaks for so many other kids fighting their own life/death battles and Brogan's seems mild compared to some others but this is the battle Brogan is fighting no matter the details. We have been blessed with many weeks of good health and having these issues last week just threw us back into the reality of the seriousness of what we are facing. It's been an unwanted reality check. I have to say that besides these issues we have been trying to have fun in spite of it all. Brogan's strength amazes and inspires me!
We are looking forward to a week of time with friends, swimming and fun this week. We also have Brogan's check-up at Children's DC on Thursday and my cousins' incredible fireworks display in Virginia this weekend. We so missed it last year as we listened to fireworks from our apartment in Memphis. Please join us in praying that this new appetite stimulant works and that Brogan is able to eat and take his chemo. Thanks so much for your support and for your "listening (internet) ear!"
