Britney Kleikamp's Journal
Written Sep 24, 2013 3:26pm by Becky KleikampLast week we went to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee to have our 4 week post radiation/chemo MRI. The tumor has grown....however, the Drs. are still telling us that they do not know if it is swelling from treatments or if it has actually grown larger....We do know that Britney is too weak and her bloodwork is loo low for her to handle the 2nd round of chemotherapy. They did however start her on Avastin which is given every 2 weeks at DCMH with as IV. She will get this every 2 weeks and will follow up with another MRI in Milwaukee in 6 weeks. The Avastin is suppose to help shrink the bloodvessels that feed the tumor. Britney was also started on high bloodpressure pills as her bloodpressure was high as was her heart rate. She also has quite a temper now, but the medicine has helped alittle with that. She was also started on a sodium pill because her sodium has been extremely low and she was dehydrated even though she was drinking like crazy. We still meet with Green Bay Oncology every week and they continue to maintain Britney with the help of Froedtert in Milwaukee. Britney is still our fighter and will clearly tell us when she is not happy! She still sleeps pretty much all day/night but is not as easy as that sounds. She gets up probably 3-15 times per hour 24 hours a day. She either uses the potty or wants her fruit. She eats fruit like crazy. (Strawberries, pineapple, grapes & raspberries). She started this since her 4 day stay at Froedtert a few weeks ago. I even need to pack it when we leave the house for appointments now. We ended up not going out to Duke Hospital in North Carolina as Britney is too sick now. We only leave the house for Drs. appts. She also uses a wheelchair for those appts. as she is very tired and sleeps pretty much through the appts. Brit wears a funny eye mask that Mark bought her while we were at Froedtert to sleep. It has big funny eyes with glasses. The only time she takes it off is to get out of bed, potty, and eat otherwise it is on the entire time-even at the Drs. appts. The Drs. love it as they tell her if she is trying to blend in with the crowd it is not working as everyone is looking at her but she doesn't care!! She doesn't even take it off for bloodwork or IVs the little toughy...she just wants to sleep.......Again, we would like to thank everyone for all of their support from watching our pets, to grocery shopping, cooking meals, visits, helping with Britney, etc....there are not enough words to tell you how much you all mean to us!!
Written Sep 13, 2013 3:12pm by Becky KleikampWe are looking forward to having a few days off from Drs. appts this weekend-thank goodness it is the weekend. Brit has had appts. everyday this week. The doctors have been keeping a close eye on her bloodwork. They determined that her pituitary gland is not working anymore/correctly as the tumor is pressing on it or penetrating it. Hard to determine which it is. She has also had a lot of stomach/back pain. Her potassium and sodium are low and her sugar is high. They are very concerned with the low sodium and have been having us give Brit a lot of salt to help bring it up along with the IVs. She has also been running a fever and has bronchitis. She still continues to be our fighter!!! If Britney symptoms do not change/increase we might be able to skip the bloodwork and appt. on Monday as we go to Milwaukee on Tuesday for our 4 wk post treatment MRI and Dr. appt. Hopefully the Drs. will be able to tell us if the tumor has changed for the good/bad. I struggle with updates now as it is a waiting game. The doctors say it may take 3 to 4 months before we see any improvement if there is any... Lord knows....we are keeping our fingers crossed that we see changes for the good!!!! Again, thank you for your support and prayers. As a family, we have also decided that I can no longer work and take care of Britney, so daycare was closed indefinitely effective Tuesday. It was a very hard decision as we all love the kids as if they were our own....but all of my parents are great and understand that Britney needs to come first right now and I also feel I would not be able to give them the care they deserve/need. Therefore/THANK YOU ALL FOR SUPPORTING US WHILE WE TRAVEL THIS MOST DIFFICULT ROAD.
