My Story

At 10 months of age, Brandon was diagnosed with Stage III Hepatoblastoma - a 1 in a million cancer diagnosis. He required 6 months of Chemo and many surgeries. Ulimately he needed a life saving full liver transplant. Brandon received his beautiful new cancer free liver on Mother's Day of 2007! Brandon is currently cancer free and doing GREAT!

2 Years Post Transplant/Cancer Free! :)

Hello Dear Friends!  I am so very grateful to be able to post that last week was Brandon's 2 year liver-versary! How very grateful I am to be able to say that Brandon is doing wonderful and is a very happy and rambunctious 3 year old! Watching him play chase at the park with his twin Aiden, nobody would ever know what all he has been thru unless he lifted his shirt :)

Brandon and I made the trip to Houston last week for clinic and a CT, it's always so great to see our team down there! I think they are just wonderful and will never regret our decision to go to Houston.  It amazes me to this day Brandon was out of the hospital 8 days after transplant and has still to this day maintained perfect labs. We are so blessed! Clinic went well and I was SO proud of Brandon, who had his first CT without sedation! He was so brave laying there all wrapped up, eyes wide but we made it into a game and he layed perfectly still and thought the "rocket ship ride" was pretty cool :).  I just heard back on the scans today that everything looks good except for the same very small shadow that has been on his lung for a year now. It has not changed in size, and all the tests we ran on it last year (bronchoscopy, biopsy etc) resulted in no findings and his AFP is still 2, so we are just going to keep an eye on it and scan every 3 months to make sure it is indeed nothing to worry about.  I don't think the worry ever goes away for me though! :)

Of course in our time of celebration with Brandon's gift of life, I mourn the loss of the little girl who's parents selflessly decided to save lives in their time of grief. The importance and immense meaning of the gift they gave, truly cannot be expressed in words.  She is the butterfly in our garden, the angel sitting on Brandon's shoulder, she is a beautiful soul that Brandon carries with him everyday! If you haven't already signed up to be a donor, please do! Be a hero!!

Brandon's suppression level is low, and we have been very fortunate that all we have had to deal with this winter/spring` sick season was a case of RSV that resolved in a couple weeks. It is my hope we can go another year without posting any medical emergencies to announce the 3rd year anniversary!!

Thank you for being such an important part of our journey, I will never forget all the wonderful ways we were supported over the years!

In closing, please keep in your prayers all those brave kids fighting cancers and transplant issues and the beautiful angels and their families, cancer sucks and I can't wait for the day a cure is found!!!

These Hepatoblastoma warriors and their families could really use your prayers right now! Thank you all so much!
