Benji finally has clear, uninfected urine 13 days after the begining of his kidney infection. All I can say is that it's about time. One of his physicians expressed concern yesterday that the pattern of UTI's we are seeing since his reimplantation in June truly signals that it was not successful (which we know is a possibility) and that also they are continuing to damage that kidney further as he is showing increased edema, lasix dependence, and no Epo production. Benji's other lab results were not nearly that good but today is a day where I refuse to let that get us down. He has been very happy, is kissing everyone, and stuck to my leg like velcro since I got home from work tonight. I got home late so I kept him up late to play trains and read books. He fell asleep with his head on my lap talking to his new plush Mr. Mucous (the Mucinex snot ball character from tv ads) that he earned at the clinic yesterday for being a big boy while his port was reaccessed. And for being very boogery. Despite the fact that it's a pretty crude toy distributed by drug reps, it was very sweet to see Mr. Benji talking to Mr. Mucous. You would think that Lasix would dry up some of those boogers but apparently not.

Anyways, tomorrow is feeding therapy for Benji. I'm feeling a bit like I could use some Mucinex myself so I'm not sure if we will make it. Next week everything is set up for Benji's surgery on Tuesday. Besides seeing Benji in surgery, the surgeon will also be seeing Isaac in the specialty clinic to begin to address some of his medical issues. Isaac is not excited to be seeing Benji's "poop doctor". After years of battling his constipation with him I told him tonight that he had no choice, that he was going to the appt., and I was done hearing about it. He stared at me defiantly as I thought only a teenager could do, yelled "fine", stomped his feet, and declared he was not ever talking to me, he came back out of his room to remind me of this twice and to ask where his sleeping bag was so that he could go live with Uncle Joey. By this point I was getting a little frustrated and I sarcastically reminded him to leave hi GI Joes at home becausee Tanner (his three year old cousin) will ruin them. That got him thinking! He even came out and declared that he no longer has any problems going to the bathroom. I asked since when and he replied since last night. I reminded him that he wasn't talking to me. He had to crack a smile at that. Then ten minutes later he asked if we could have McDonalds that day after the appt. I hate McDonalds but I told him I will take him anywhere as long as he cooperates. I thought this was going to take a much more expensive bribe than some chicken nuggets!
