Dear Sue & Steve,

We only just learned of your tragic loss in the Scene.  Although we have not seen you in many years, the Colgate connection remains strong and our hearts go out to you.

I wish we could have known Ben....  he sounds like an amazing kid.  We are so very sorry for your loss.

With love,
Nancy (Viener) & Jeff Teumer

Hi Steve and Susan. I was wondering how you and the rest of your family is doing around what should be a happy time of year.  I want you to know that you have been in my thoughts. I do not even pretend to know what it is like to lose a child or grandchild, but I am sure that you are all having a hard time in coping with your loss. I know that this is not the same thing, but I really miss my father at Christmas time. It was his favorite time of year. I also think about all of my relatives and how we used to get together for Christmas. I sometimes wonder why we all stop doing that. I am sad to think that I have not gotten to know my cousin's children better. After being a cancer survivor twice in the past five years, I really have begun to treasure life as well as all the people who are in my life. Give my love to the rest of your family.

Dear Steve and family,

A simple search for an old friend on Facebook, of all silly places, led me to this news about your son. I am deeply saddened to hear of your loss. I read through these journal entries, looking for information that I hoped would confirm that it was not the same Stephen Weiler that I knew in Livingston. And so sad to discover that it was. But reading about your sons, wife and other family and friends, it is clear that Ben was an exceptional person and that you are surrounded by great support and love. So from an old friend from the past, I offer you and your family my most sincere condolences.

Dear Wieler Family,

The First Annual Benjamin Robert Wieler Scholarship Soccer Tournament was such a success. There were 32 teams playing and many others who came to watch and cheer everyone on. The day was beautiful, sunny and filled with inner warmth. Ben was smiling down on his friends and we can only hope he too saw us smiling to him! I have photo's from the event and would gladly give you a CD of them.
To date there has been enough funds raised to possibly fund this scholarship for 5-6 years at MHS. I hope your holidays are filled with love and memories that bring you happiness.
Regards,
Anne De Salvo (former Class of 2007 class mother)

We are sitting here, Friday evening, November 20th, reading Ben's guestbook.  We just wanted to let both of you know that you are in our thoughts.
Words seem so inadequate and yet that's what we offer.
We remember that November 30th, is Ben's birthday and we  will be thinking of you.
We always in our family, call and sing Happy Birthday on the birthday morning. On November 30th our song will go straight to Ben.
Hope this brings you some comfort at this difficult time.

Hi Susan, Steve and Matt:

Susan, I just read the email you sent me. My heart is broken for your whole family and I wish I had known sooner. Please, please do not hesitate to contact me for anything - just to talk.

I am so glad I got a chance to meet Ben this summer. I thought both Ben and Matt were such fine young men when I met them. Your whole family was a joy to spend time with when you visited Maine. I loved you all immediately. My thoughts, prayers and love are with you now and I am grieving.

Hi Susan, Steve and Matt and all viewing the guestbook,

My uncle informed me of Ben's passing and our thoughts in the UK have been very much with you all recently.

I know you all from my happy visits over the holidays to New Jersey where you all made me feel very welcome. I particularly used to enjoy basketball sessions with Ben and Matt round the side, and we all still talk of that soccer match down the school one Christmas morn. Ben had a blinding game in some tough conditions!

I have read through the messages on this site and it is lovely to hear just how much joy Ben spread around him.

All our love
