Hello and thank you so much for visiting my mom's CaringBridge site. My name is Melissa Taylor and I am her oldest daughter.
My mom's name is Becky Nunn. October, 2008, she was given the news that any person would hate hearing. "You have cancer." And in a matter of minutes, my family's future had changed. My mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer.
Since the dianosis, she has experienced ups and downs. She began chemotherapy in November and has responded positively to the treaments. Although the cancer is noncurable, the chemo has slowed it down. For that we are extremely thankful.
Since learning of mom's cancer, life has taken on new meaning. We have always been thankful to God for life and each day, but what a difference it makes when we are given a diagnosis like cancer. We realized this and have tried to live each day like it.
In March, 2009, we learned there was more cancer in a different area of her body. Although this was not the news we were expecting, and honestly it made me just mad, my mom continues to stay strong. I'm so proud of her.
One of the most positive things I've observed during this trial in our lives is the love of my mom's husband, Buddy. What an amazing man. I have watched him serve Becky (Mama) nonstop each day all day. I've watched him love her, cook for her, administer medication, take her to all of her appointments, pray for her, and take extra special care to make sure her needs are being met. He is so devoted to her. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. He is loving her how God loves. Unconditionally and unfailingly. I love him more for it. So does she!
Friends of mom, you are a blessing. Your cards, calls, love, and prayers mean the world to her, Bud, me, Tricia, and the rest of our family. Thank you so much. You are the reason we have created this site. I hope you will use it to keep updated with mom and also to send her messages, prayers, and encouragement. She loves you all so much!
Be sure to read the latest in the journal, view the photo gallery, and drop her a line in the guestbook.
Wow, It's been so long since I've written here. Honestly I wasn't sure if I ever would again. But I wanted to let y'all know how Mom's family was doing.
It's hard to believe it's been 4 months since Mom took her last breath. That moment will be with me forever. Bitterweet for sure. We are all coping as you'd expect. The first 2 months were incredibly tough for all of us. Bud's birthday was in April and it was hard for him to celebrate without his Becky. Then came Mother's Day, which I think I cried practically the whole day. I'm sure Tricia did too. A few days after that was Mom's birthday. She would have been 64.
Tears and sadness are still with us, but it has gotten better that's for sure. I think and talk about Mom every day. Some days are sadder than others, but we are all trying to do what she would want us to do and that is to live our lives joyfully, not sit around crying for her....after all she's doing amazingly well these days :)
I wrote a devotion that I'd like to share with you. If you've ever lost someone or experienced grieving over anything, I think you will be able to relate. Click here to read "God's Will for Me to Grieve". I pray it will bless you.
Thanks again for the love and support and prayers you showed all of us during Mom's life, especially when she was so sick. I hope I've been able to express in a small way what you all meant to our family. And I think I also need to ask some major forgiveness. I still haven't written my thank you notes! I know I know, that's horrible. I don't have a good excuse and I hope no one thinks I'm ungrateful. I'm sorry, I do plan on writing them, hopefully soon :)
