Our Summer has started off with a bang!
Dani is on restriction until July and Jonathan is on restriction until next Wednesday…… Hannah is the only one so far that has not ended up in the pokey. But even she has been skirting the edge lately.
I will have to tell you a funny story that involved Jonathan. We have a rule in our house that if you are going to act crazy and “create” (against our advice) in the kitchen that you have to eat half of the creation if not all of it. That you are NOT going to waste our food products because you decided to experiment.
So JM had eaten a toaster strudel and decided he was still hungry and wanted PLAIN oatmeal. Plain??? I asked. “Yeah, mom just plain.” (Hannah was having the Maple brown sugar.)
So I leave the kitchen as he is getting ready to fix TWO packets of PLAIN oatmeal and head to the bathroom for a load of towels… Then Hannah comes running in and tells me that JM is adding the grated Mexican blend cheese to his plain oatmeal!!!!!
So I go into the kitchen and inform him that hot oatmeal is a cereal and typically is eaten with something sweet, like honey, or fruit or cinnamon etc….. So what does he do??? He proceeds to add MORE cheese to his bowl. He is now on his own with that….
So he is just stirring away and it is now looking like a huge dough ball that you would bake in the oven. Gross! He looks up at me and then back as his bowl and says… “I don’t think I added enough water, and I don’t think it was hot enough.”
After quizzing him, I concurred that he was correct.
So we add a bit more hot water and now it’s thinner, but still looking like wall paper paste and he looks over at Hannah just enjoying her and states “Hannah’s is darker than mine.” I told him it was because she was wise and was eating the Maple brown sugar version. And that he better get busy eating, that we had an appt to get to.
Watching him gagging it down but try to act cool like it tasted ok, and that it tasted like he had thought it would was about all I could take. It was so flipping funny. He ate about half of it then came to me and said he was just sooo full that he couldn’t possibly finish it.
Hopefully lesson learned!
I’m thinking of writing to Obama and telling him that he ought to provide free summer long camp to all parents with 2 or more kids ages 10 and over. Provide the busses to pick them up and bring them home a few days before school starts. Can I get an Amen?
