Erin was born on December 23, 2005 with tetralogy of fallot and pulmonary atresia. She had her first heart surgery when she was 6 days old and her second one when she was 8 months old. She also had surgery on her diaphragm a month after that. She had her 3rd open heart surgery on September 20, 2007, and her 4th heart (and lung) surgery on September 16, 2008.

Just thought I'd write a quick update before I go to bed.

Erin is continuing to do well! We still have to be gentle with her sternum for several weeks, though. We can't pick her up under her arms, and we've noticed if she bumps her sternum, or even starts crying real hard (for regular 'two year old' reasons), she'll point to her chest and tell us her 'tummy' hurts.

Erin was sent home on baby aspirin and lasix. At first, it was like wrestling a wild turkey (even fresh out of heart surgery) to get her to take her lasix. Thanks, Lori, for providing the 'bribes' to help mom and dad get the job done. Now she gets part of a Hershey bar or Rolo each time she gets lasix - and Ryan is sure to administrator this every time (a chocolate opportunity for him, too). She'll look at me now and say, 'I'm not going to spit it out, mama!' If you ask me, I think she's still a little 'turkey.'

We will see Dr. Gremmels in another couple weeks, and then again 2 months after that, when he will probably do a lung profusion test to see how this surgery impacted her lung function. At that time he will decide if another heart cath is in order to put a stent in her left pulmonary artery (most likely).

We feel so fortunate to have had things go so smoothly for Erin and for us. Thanks for checking in on us, and for all of your prayers and support.

Maria (Jeff and kids, too!)
