We are home safely from a very quick check-up in Atlanta. Billy had a routine echocardiogram & labs this morning. His Atlanta cardiologist, Dr. Mahle said his heart was functioning “beautifully” & debated with Mark about what kind of baseball glove Billy should have! All at CHOA were thrilled to see Billy so happily walking! He is doing so well and trends are showing hearts transplanted in infancy have such low rejection rates that the transplant team decided Billy will not have to have a biopsy & Heart catheterization in August, but will just need another echocardiogram. This is great news, as the echo is MUCH less invasive & does not require general anesthesia! His labs also look great & his kidney function is good!!
Last week, Billy had check-ups at the pediatrician & the pulmonologist. Dr. Wendy, our pediatrician was very pleased that his ear infection had cleared and that he had fought this cold so well. She said now its time to get out there in the world and start living with that new heart. Dr. Harsch, our pulmonologist agreed and said Billy’ s lungs sounded wonderful and we could start weaning him off of some of his breathing treatments! Billy was able to attend big sister Annie’s dance recital on Sunday and her preschool promotion on Tuesday- just like “normal” family! HOORAY for BILLY! We could not be more pleased and grateful for how well our little miracle boy is doing. THANKS BE TO GOD!
While we were at CHOA-Egleston today, we were asked to meet another family whose baby just received a heart this week. We were so happy to meet them & allow them to see the embodiment of hope with each step & smile Billy took. We will continue to pray for them & welcome them into them into “the transplant club” that, as we were told, nobody wants to join but are glad to have the opportunity.
Thanks to all of you for your continued interest and prayers!
