My Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.Wow, where to begin...Drew hasn't been himself for well over a week. Initially doctor's thought it was an underlying viral infection, then a possible ear infection combined with teething. And then this past Wednesday, April 24th, lab work showed low red and white blood counts in addition to platelets, requiring direct admission to Levine Children's Hospital.
Thursday, April 25th. We received confirmation that Drew has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. A rare cancer only affecting less than 200 babies in the US per year. Treatment course is long, 2 years total of chemo and maintenance therapy. We will be here at Levine for the next month for induction chemo, and will be in and out of the hospital over the next 4-5 months. The remaining treatments will hopefully be on an outpatient basis. Although its going to be a long road, there are curable treatment options and we will beat this. We don't need a thing in this world other than your continual prayers that God surround Drew every step of the way.

Thank you.

We are so very thankful and happy to report Drew's counts are finally up, way up! He survived 2 weeks of low immunity with NO fevers which is a pretty big deal in the oncology world. And he gets the rest of this week off all medications!!! (Except for his scheduled weekend Septra for prophylaxis against pneumonia) It feels so good to be able to give him a break for a few days. He's as hungry, playful and precious as ever :)

Tomorrow is our 1 year anniversary from diagnosis, Saturday from start of treatment. This year has seemed to fly by in so many aspects, but seems like the longest year of our life in so many others. Moral of the story .... we couldn't have gotten through this year without the support from all of you. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for everyone who's been there... through the occasional text or email, through sending pictures of everyone in their Drews Crew bracelets and T-shirts, through prayer, through coming to visit and spending time with us when it's been possible.

Today is just another milestone along a continuous journey. We choose to celebrate this anniversary for all Drew has accomplished in the amazing way that he has. We simply ask you continue to pray ... Pray for The Lord to continue protecting Drew from this thing called Leukemia and from the side effects of all the treatment. Pray for every little angel fighting this battle no matter the type of cancer. And lastly, pray for the researchers fighting to help find the cure for childhood and infantile cancer.
