My Story

Ann passed today (6:27 PM 5/5/2012)

Ann’s cancer came back. It is the non-small cell lung cancer.
On 28 Oct a PET scan show hot spots in two ribs and the old cancer area in Ann top right lung.
DR Mohan (PA Oncologist) ordered a CAT scan to verify the biopsy can be done with CAT scan guidance, a MRI of the brain, a full skeletal bone scan and then a biopsy of the hot spot. The biopsy was done on the ribs instead of the old cancer area. The biopsy validated the non-small cell cancer was in the ribs.
Treatment started 22 Nov with Radiation on the Ribs.

Ann had severe pain on 21 Aug while in Byron, NY and again on 21 Sep while at Goshen, IN. On 13 Oct Ann saw her Glen Burnie Oncologist who ordered a PET SCAN. Ann had right eye muscle surgery on the 19th of Oct when she was also scheduled for a PET scan so the Pet scan was done on the 26th of Oct. On the 28th of Oct the Glen Burnie doctor called advising the PET scan showed there were hot spots in her top right lung and on two ribs. We were in the process of changing to local doctors in Pennsylvania and had an appointment the next day (29 Oct). The tumors pushing on the rib nerve was what was causing the pain which resulted in the two emergency room visits.
Ann started radiation treatment on the ribs on 22nd of Nov daily. The intent is to shrink the tumors in the ribs and ease the pain.
Tomorrow is the last radiation treatment and the next meeting with Dr. Mohan.
The 6th of Dec she is scheduled for a Cauterization port for IV treatments (chemo and bone strengthening meds). The Chemo treatment will probably start then too.

History – We were on Government orders working at Alice Springs, Northern Territory, Australia. The morning of July 27, 2006 Ann noticed a lump on the right side of her neck. She called the US clinic and made an appointment for that afternoon. The PA that saw Ann requested she come back Friday at 9AM and see the doctor. The DR ordered an xray and CAT scan. Friday afternoon the DR called us back in and advised there was a sign of cancer in the top right lung.
We left the following Wed for the states leaving all the house hold items to be managed by friends.
A biopsy was taken and it was confirmed as Non-Small Cell cancer in the lung and local lymph nodes but not in the brain.
We set up our 5th wheel RV at Ft Meade FAMCAMP while Ann received treatment at the TATE Cancer Center Glen Burnie, MD. They could not operate so she received an aggressive radiation (31 days) and Chemo (once a week during radiation) and then four treatments every 21 days. During this time Ann did develop a blood clot that moved from the leg to the lung resulting in 16 days of Hospital stay.
On 31 Jan Ann was declared in remission and we moved into our PA house.

Note: Ann and I want to thank Bill and Mary Ziegler for making this web page known to us. We also request all add them in their prayers while Mary goes through her Cancer battle as well as Ann battling hers.
