She was admitted to Plano Presbyterian Hospital on November 19th, 2009 for a bone biopsy to determine what was causing the pain in her right hip. On November 25th, Anna received the news of her diagnosis: Ewing's Sarcoma.
Anna is undergoing chemotherapy treatment at Children's Medical Center in Dallas Texas. Every two weeks she is admitted to the hospital for chemotherapy. The regimens vary every two weeks. One admission is for an overnight stay. The following admission is for five days. Chemotherapy is a drug treatment that works by interfering with the cancer cell's ability to grow or reproduce.
The wonderful nurses and physicians carefully monitor her condition as she is receiving the medications to fight this cancer.
Ewing's sarcoma accounts for about 2 to 3 percent of childhood cancers. About 250 children and adolescents are diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma each year in the US. It is the second most common malignant bone tumor in children and adolescents. Ewing sarcoma most often occurs in children between the ages of ten and 20.
