Mi historia

Welcome to Amy's page.

This site was created in 2006 when I had the first of two surgeries to remove a cholesteatoma - cyst - from behind my left eardrum.

It has followed the healing process, though I wrote nothing of it for quite some time after my second surgery.

Thank you for reading, and for praying.

I've lived with ear infections and a mild-moderate hearing loss for as long as I can remember. I had tubes in my ears twice as a kid, and they had to be removed surgically both times. When I was 17 and 18, my ENT doc opporated on both ears to rebuild the eardrums. The left ear had the ear bones behind the drum reconnected, since the middle one was halfway dissolved. The right ear never gained any hearing, but now looks normal. My left ear has been infected since November, only getting worse since February. The CT scan I had wednesday shows bone abnormalities, and a buildup of soft tissue in the ear. They think I have a cholesteatoma - cyst in my ear, that needs to be removed. Only after it has been removed can they reconstruct my eardrum and bones and possibly widen the ear canal.

8/22/06 - They are planning a second surgery, to make sure all is healing well, around the end of this year. Watch the updates.

It's been a pretty busy month or two here with the addition of a new puppy to the family. He's a gem, lots of fun, and lots of work. We're awake right now, and he wants to play. I'm hoping he'll sleep a little while longer before his breakfast, though I doubt it. Silly boy.

My ear hasn't been so good the last few weeks. We've had a lot of weather change, from summer to fall, from dry and sunny to rainy. It seems to have calmed some this last week with the stability of the weather, but there were a few weeks when I felt I could barely hear from it.
I'm going in this month to have it looked at. Some days, I long for the hearing I had from 1998-2005. I called it my "miracle ear" back then. But other days, I simply do what I must to get through well with what I have.

God is still in control of my ear even when I don't feel like He is. I don't understand the last four years of chronic problems, or what the end result will be, but I choose to trust. He is all I have.

As always, I'll update if anything significant happens, though I may talk some about life with hearing loss as a blind person and my own experiences.
