Most of you know my exciting news…I’m ENGAGED!!!  I have been pretty busy since the night Mike asked me (5-22-09).  It was the same day that I found out the news about my donor and who he is.  So I wanted to dedicate a whole update on Michael Van Portfliet because he might get overlooked if I mentioned it along with this.  :)

Do you want my version of the story or Mikes?  Mike’s is…
“I popped the question, and she said yes.”  Mine may take a couple of paragraphs.  Fridays are our date nights, since I get off work early.  After a stressful day at work, I did not want to go too far away or deal with Austin traffic.  So we decided on Texas Roadhouse.  While eating, he mentions that we should get Amy’s ice cream in the Arboretum (the place he asked me out on our first date).  I was still not thinking or expecting this is the night he would ask, because he didn’t look nervous and he hadn’t talk to my parents (so I thought).  We were too full from a nice steak dinner to go to Amy’s right away, so we ended up browsing in Half Price Books.  Then we headed over to the Arboretum and got our choice of ice cream…mine being coffee with a mixture of crushed Oreo and Heath bar.  It was a very nice night with a cool breeze.  There are life size cows there made of marble.  And I have claimed one and love to climb on it, because it is a challenge to get on.  Anyway, we headed over to my cow but quickly found out that the sprinklers had been on, making them too wet and the ground muddy.  L  So instead, we took the nearby secluded path.  He begins telling me how he treasures me and I’m thinking…“my goodness, what is happening?!  The next thing I know he is down on one knee and says he wants to spend the rest of his life with me!  I definitely said yes.  I was so surprised and excited!!!  My cheeks hurt so much that night!  It was the perfect night.

Since then I have started on wedding plans and already have a date, place, and the dress.  It is going to be a short engagement, because I don’t see the reason to have a long one.  Some say I am insane, but it will get done in 3½ months.  The date is Sept. 19, 2009.  My thinking was avoid the heat of the Texas summer, and make it early enough to take a vacation before the Christmas rush at FedEx Office.
