My Story

On Friday, October 12, I came into Johns Hopkins for an appointment. I then had some tests, and later that night I was diagnosed with Burkitts Lymphoma. I am about to embark on a 6 month journey of chemotherapy and fighting off the cancer. -- Ally

Hello Everyone!

What an amazing and wonderful past several weeks it has been in the Hawkins household. There is so much to tell and so much for which to be thankful.

Ally returned to school on Monday, May 5. Thanks to the wonderful administrators and teachers at Easton High, it was a seamless re-entry. We are so grateful for their collective efforts and support.

We are still making regular trips across the bridge, but rather than heading to Hopkins we are heading to the rink! Ally is getting back to the ice, having resumed one set of lessons and planning to return to a more active schedule in June......

......once driver's ed is completed........which will be next week......

And then there is the new reality of what it means to be the passenger with your 15 and 9 mos. old as your chauffeur. That was the excitement for May 9 - a trip to the MVA for Ally to test for her learner's permit. I have to admit - the first few "spins" around the neighborhood that day had me reeling, but each day is getting better.

In amongst all these "big" moments, we have enjoyed gatherings with friends and neighbors, church and brunch on Mother's Day - the first time the three of us have been able to go to church together in many months - and just the normal everyday comings and goings. Every day has been a cherished gift.

And we keep pressing forward....

This weekend is a Metroliners weekend - with tryouts for the new season being held tomorrow and then a team picnic celebration on Sunday. We were able to attend the team open house at the end of April and look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday and Sunday, as well as welcoming new skaters to our Metroliners family.

On Monday, we will be heading to Hopkins for Ally to have her MRI. We continue to thank God for His healing powers that we know are at work in Ally. We continue to hold fast to our praise and belief rather than focus on the doctor's numbers and statistics about recurrence and remission. Our focus is on faith and healing.

Consider these thoughts...."I trust in your word." (Psalm 119:42) -- Faith has nothing to do with feelings, impressions, outward appearances, nor the probability or improbability of an event.....Faith rests on the pure Word of God alone. And when we take Him at His Word, our hearts are at peace. [from Streams in the Desert].

This weekend and on Monday I'll be thinking about the message on the back of that tractor trailer I passed during our travels for that last round of chemo....."Trust in the Lord."

Love and prayers to you all....our wonderful angels and reminders of God's constant, watchful, caring, loving presence in our lives.
