Addie and her classmates had been saving up for some time to go to Hawaii for spring break. During a surfing lesson Addie became paralyzed from the ribs down. I know this is overdue-but now there is a lot to update you all on-I’ll keep it short and sweet…

This last week was full of firsts and adventures.

With wheelchair class I went on a few “endurance runs”, made over a minute in a wheelie, and got my three 360’s in each direction while in a wheelie too. I went in the water therapy pool a few times (and let me tell you it is a weird sensation to swim without feeling your legs!), on the electrical stimulator bikes a few time, stood in a standing frame. I tried out different wheelchairs each day, picked my favorite, and placed the order for my wheelchair (it will be titanium and silvery in color).

I also had my first real fall. I have not fallen out of the chair yet…I fell while transferring into the chair (and I thought I had the brakes on all the way-apparently I didn’t). As I moved my weight over towards the chair it rapidly slid behind me and left me with nothing. I tried to grab onto to the side of the bed-that was also unsuccessful which left me approaching the floor. The fall was pretty soft and I didn’t get any bruises from it, surprisingly enough; however, I have not come close to mastering getting into the chair from the floor yet-so I needed help getting back into the chair.

I also went out to a real bbq restaurant for the first time-which was really good!

With the therapeutic recreation department I made a few pressed flower cards and watch the movie “27 Dresses”.

My mom and I ventured off to Wal-Mart and made delicious brownies too last weekend.

I have defiantly been keeping busy and hope things are interesting and busy in your life too!

Addie
