"Be joyful in hope,
patient in affliction,
faithful in prayer."
ROMANS 12:12 (NIV)
For those of you who have been in touch with our family and the events of Adam's recovery through this website, this will be the final entry. It was nearly a year ago (June 11th) that Adam came back home with us from RHI. Thanks to so many prayers and words of encouragement, skilled hands of therapists, doctors and nurses, long hours on the road, watchful eyes of peers, parents, and the Rose-Hulman faculty, Adam has finally met one of his goals--to graduate. We enjoyed the march on campus to the accompaniment of the bag-pipes. It was a thrill to see Adam cross the stage to the happy shouts from the crowd in the back. Be sure to check out the new photos included this time.
Adam has always had a second goal and that was, to get a job. God has blessed Adam with talents he has been wanting to put to the test and so on Friday morning--the day before graduation--Thomson Electronics called and offered him an internship. We do not know details but he is thrilled he has a place to use his skills.
Knowing the details of Adam's injuries, we know it is a miracle that he has accomplished some tough objectives. I remember being shocked on our first weekend at RHI when I pushed his wheelchair around an outdoor bicycle safety "rodeo" and for the first time he was reading words off the signs. The little things, eating real food, standing up, playing balloon volleyball, Wii baseball, swimming a lap, riding a bicycle, allowing him to work his way back. He still has vision problems. We work on the skill of "small talk" or having a conversation--something he struggled with before the accident-he IS an engineer and said only what was necessary! Short term memory still knocks him for a loop. It has only been in the past few days that I have heard out right laughter from him. Annie and Michael (daughter and her fiance) have a new puppy, a Boston Terrier named Meleea. We have been dog sitting for a week and she has taken a shine to Adam. I'm not sure if we will see Adam again when Meleea goes back to her own home.
The same day as the graduation there was also a dedication to Nick. A starting block at the Rose-Hulman natatorium has been erected with a plaque dedicated in Nick's honor. Nicks talents in the pool was only one of his many strengths that made him a very special young man. He and his family will always be in our thoughts and prayers.
Thank you for your kind words, generous out pouring of gifts of your time, your skills, your energy and most of all your prayers that brought us to this point. Do not hesitate to email, call or stop us in the grocery for a private update! With Gods love anything is possible and we have been witnesses to this.
SERENITY PRAYER
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
