My Story

Welcome to Abby Bauleke's Caringbridge website. It has been created to keep family and friends updated about her progress with her leukemia. Abby has, also, been diagnosed with a form of Guillian-Barre. This is not a normal complication from the leukemia, but from a infection. This happened just a month after diagnosis. Obviously, no news is good news for the Baulekes.  Especially Abby.  We have just been enjoying the summer and all it has had to offer.

We did think hard about our last THREE years, as the date of her diagnosis came (June 13) and went, and talked some of how that stopped us in our tracks.  And how we have all, each one of us, kept on going and doing.......no one more than Abby.

She continues to go and do, be happy and be the normal crazy 7 (almost 8) year old that we love so much.  I can hardly keep up with her scedule.

Friends over, swimming, biking, sleepovers, going to the parks and the zoo, soccer and  baseball games of Ben and Em's.....its great to see her so healthy and adjusted to being off of therapy.  We laugh and marvel over the thunderstorms that are part of our weather, and how they do not bother her at all.  We were actually swimming in a little rainshower this week.  That would have sent her the basement, in the playroom (with her hands over her ears)....just last summer.

We are anxious for my brothers wedding, Abby has been in and out of her flowergirl dress so many times, I hope its good and clean for the actual day!! July 10th is the big day and I will post pictures asap.  She is having her hair done, too.

She is starting to tighten up, as the botox wears off, and we are trying to keep it from happening, by more and more therapy and swimming and stretching....but, its a balance between that and letting her go....and go.

How exciting to just wake up every summer day, and not worry about chemo or anything Cancer related, and just plan your day out and do fun stuff with the kids!!  I am loving it.

Ben and Em are happy and making the most of the summer, too.  Mixing fun with the scedules of Soccer and Baseball, it all works out.  I think they should be so tired to drop, and they come home, and are off to the next thing.

They can both drive me nuts about certain things....but, watching them pick up on something that Abby is excited about, it makes me forget anything else they do (well, almost anything).  For example, Abbys hair is just long enough for two tiny ponytails.  And she is thrilled. THRILLED, imagine Christmas and her bday all combined.  That was her face in the mirror.  But, both were gone.  One by one, they came home and she was sitting in her chair, willing them to mention it, and sure enough, Ben, goes by her and then, stops and makes a big deal out of her hair (God Bless him) and asks her to spin around. Hello, she almost made grooves in the floor upon that request.  Then, Em, too comes home and asks different, but important questions about it (God Bless her). They are so happy to see her with a head of hair.  I am proud they see these, seemingly little things, as a big thing to her.

Enjoy your day.  God Bless. Thank you for checking on her and us, we never take that for granted.

Abby is lucky...yes, lucky. SO many people are praying for her. Some leave messages and some keep updated...she is thankful for both.
