This will be our last entry as we have become boring:) Aaliyah is doing awesome. In the past month she has gotten rid of her wheel chair, her crutches and her AFO's. But she will probably need her crutches when her brace comes off as her brace provides support for her back and abdomine. We feel so incredibly lucky that she has come so far. As her Dr. at Gillette said it best, "she has in a sense dodged a bullet!" Aaliyah will continue to wear her chest and back brace through the end of June to continue to protect her healing vertabrae but hopefully after June she will not have to wear it. She continues therapy at Gillette three times a week through August to continue to work on her leg and hip strength. Aaliyah still has nerve endings in her legs and back that are causing numbness but we are hoping over time the feeling in her legs will slowly return. Lee-lee misses playing basketball and soccer very bad but we know that at some point in the future she will be able to compete at the sports she loves ! I know Aaliyah is working hard to get back to how she was and she couldnt have done it without all your caring support. Aaliyah says "It's incredible how many caring people have supported us and we are super lucky" It will be a different summer for us but I know she plans on attending her friends and brothers sporting events. Lee-Lee will also be spending lots of time caring for her new puppy Macy!
