Back to School!

Hello, Everyone! We have had a very busy summer! First off, we had clean scans in July (sorry to keep you hanging!). It was such a relief as we had had a scare a few days before the trip (nausea and headache). Sebastian and I made the trip as enjoyable as possible, finding time for a trolley ride in Memphis and a round of glow-in-the-dark putt put at the Peabody Place (you St. Jude folks know the one!).

Our summer fun was over shadowed by the death of my dear grandfather, Paul Conley. His passing was so hard on so many as he was known and loved through a broad community of family and friends. We were able to focus on the incredible life he lead and to celebrate his integrity and love for family. It is an honor to be his grand daughter and his passing has left an unfixable void in my life.

The loss of my father and grandfather, as well as my dear friend (and surrogate grandfather to my boys),Maynard Hanson, with in a few months time has been devastating. We continue on, living a bit more fully each day as the pain fades into acceptance and the lessons they taught us shine through in our lives. They are always with me in my heart, offering their guidance even now.

The St. Jude Dream Home Give-Away in West Virginia was a great success and it was a privilege to be included in this inaugural event in memory of Ben Bowen. Our appreciation goes out to Ben’s amazing family and our encouragement as they move forward in their work to help those fighting childhood cancer.
There was lots of summer fun to be had, though our trips were all related to family support.

Xavier has started third grade and Sebastian another year of preschool as they returned to Williamsburg Montessori School after Labor Day. The “normalcy” of it all is so greatly appreciated! To be HOME and leading an ordinary life is simply life’s greatest blessing. I love my boys without bounds and am thankful for each day we are together! They are truly amazing and I am so thankful to be their mom!

We will return to St. Jude for scans on October 22nd. Sebastian had a headache and stomach ache yesterday morning that seems to have passed. Hopefully a virus (funny how we parents of kids with brain tumors pray for viruses! ), but enough to make me nervous and get my senses heightened. I am looking at the zoning requirements for having a home CT scanner (big ha-ha).

I am looking into starting a home based business with an eye on giving back to St. Jude as I help fund the kids schooling. I will let you know what I come up with. I would love to be able to give back a more substantial amount to cancer research and our beloved St. Jude!

Our best to all of our wonderful friends and Sebastian supporters! Have a great day!!!

Andrea
