LOVE the new pics!!! I had researched the same organization but never followed through...are you surprised??? You would think in all my spare time that I would finally finish my "to do" list!. We saw the new hospital on the 3rd and you are right...it is fab!!!

I was tired just reading about your summer adventures. Now that's what I call living life to the fullest!!! We too have to go back to Pitt Dec-Jan so lets make sure we go at the same time. My older boys will be coming again and I am going to take them to skiing one day. I'm sure Mak would be up for that.

Take care and talk with you soon!

I love the birthday pictures of Koko- and the video of Kopper is so sweet. I wish I was a dog that lived at your house! Bailey's birthday is on March 31 and he will be 5 yrs old. I am not going to let him see Koko's birthday pictures, as I am not sure Bailey's birthday will be so grand and I don't want him to get jealous! We need to talk about meeting in Nashville in June, so I will call soon. Love and miss you both (and Koko and Kopper too, of course).

The donor families must have been so proud to have been part of these kids lives. Makenzie looks like she is giving her all to the events, and I am so proud of her. What a great summertime treat for both of you. I hope you can make it back to Montana soon, we need to see you again. Dessa got a Grand Champion Ribbon at the 4H fair over the weekend riding Sugar. Makenzie, What an exciting thing to start kindergarten! I hope you love it every day. You are such a big girl now it is hard to believe.

Cindy - I have not looked at her site in a few months. (sorry). It was a little too much for me all at once to see her graduating from preschool and then off to kindergarten. It made me cry - but of course good tears. There were so many times we worried for her and I know she will continue to have her challenges - but to see her so happy, riding a bike, going to camp, having sleepovers, going to school...all those every day things and moments that make life worth living...well it is overwhelming. I am glad you continue to keep her page updated. It reminds all of us why we continue to seek medical care for our children when we're tired, or the news is bad, or the doctors seem to not have answers. Her smile and her life says it all.

I cannot help but think of Sam's joy on the first and really every day of kindergarten and 1st grade. I am so glad that Makenzie seems to be as excited and find similar joy in such a small thing as he did. I think they would have been good friends despite the age difference.

You look great in the one and only picture I saw of you (her graduation). I am glad you're both doing well.

Love,

Anne www.caringbridge.org/wi/zachsam

Thankfully, you continue to "dodge the bullet", just as you have with so many things along this journey. You know Aunt Laurie, as well as Granny Carol (who has the direct prayer line to heaven)are praying that the "pox" do not appear. Hi Cindy and Makenzie

My name is Nienke (Ninka) and I am the mother of an 8 month old son Robin who has been diagnosed with Total Hirschsprung, he has no functioning intestine. He feeds on TPN and is doing reasonably well.

We live near Amsterdam, in The Netherlands and intestinal transplants have never been performed here. We'd have to go to the US, or to Paris, France. Besides that, our doctors have told us that life after transplant is comparable to what it is on TPN, and that Robin wouldnt live longer than 4 years after transplant - if he would even be so lucky, cos the figures showed that only 50% survive the 1 year after transplant.

All this information has led us to making the choice not to transplant - a very very hard decision to make.

I was just wondering what your doctors have told you before opting for transplant, and most of all, how Makenzie is doing now? Is she able to eat normally?

HOpe Makenzie is doing well without her port. I guess no news is good news. Maybe if the weather gets warmer, she can avoid some of the nasty bugs that have been lingering.

Cindy,
What great news! No lines, it is a strange thing to get used to but a good thing. Just so you know when Matt would get sick and need an IV they would still let him come home with that(of course I lived 40 min from childrens) I actually learned to place an IV. You already have that being a nurse. Well lets just pray you wont need to worry about that and she just stays healthy!! She is growing up so much! Looks just like her Mommy!

cindy,
sorry tohear about makenzies port. 3 1/2 years is a long time. I am surprised they allow her to have one. My docs took ALL lines out about 3 weeks after my transplant and wont put one in unless I am in the hospital for more than a few days. Good luck friday. I guess you have mixed emotions either way if it does or doesnt get in. Take care.
