Welcome to Lizzie's Page
Lizzie is a 7 year Germinoma Brain tumor survivor. She underwent surgery for biopsy at Johns Hopkins Hospital, in Baltimore MD, with Dr Jon Weingart, in Feb of 2001. Lizzie had 5 rounds of chemo in Norfolk at Childrens Hospital of the Kings Daughters throughout several months of 2001, struggling through many bouts of infection, blood transfusions, and an agressive fungus..she had clean scans for several months, however unfortunately relapsed in April of 2002...after consultation in New York, we ended up at St Jude Childrens Research Hospital, in Memphis, Tennessee, with Dr Thomas Merchant and completed Cranio-spinal radiation in the summer months of 2002. Lizzie now has clean scans, and Dr Merchant has not had a germinoma "fail", so, we do not plan to be the first. January 21 marks her 8th complete year from diagnosis...Feb 2 our meeting with Dr Weingart at Hopkins, and the 23 Feb her surgery.....This journal is about our family, our strength, and is a testament to our several years of a new life...one of knowing what matters and is meaningful. Our lives are oddly blessed...Our children...Rebecca(and her fiance Mike), Julia, Vic and Lizzie are all touched by this journey, and the strength shown here is everyones.
The picture above is our other dear friend, and one of our ""three"" families-us, Matt who we lost last spring and his parents Nancy and Bill, and here, Steven, who sadly relapsed the week after we were back in fall 08, after 6 years and is now back in treatment for relapsed Medulloblastoma..keep him in your prayers and his family, our wonderful close friends Lyle, Peggy, Bootsie, and his wife Brittney..

Tuesday, June 2, 2009 8:02 AM CDT Hello, all, We are fine! Lizzie has been so busy, so I am updating very briefly to let you know the small news we have. Liz is going ok...exams next week, so she is ready for school to be out..planning summer, and hoping to be busy. The wedding, Beccas, was perfect..at the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and their boat friends came, was very small, mostly family and a few friends of ours, and some old college roommies of Beccas that were good to see, plus a couple of girlfriends she has stayed close to. Was good to keep it tiny, intimate, and Mikes family was here from South Africa for near 2 weeks, which we loved. They are now off, moved to New York City where they will both work for CV Starr Insurance Co. Julia graduated, and is home, job hunting along with the world)). Vic and his friend lisa are still here, home for the wedding from traveling New Zealand, where Lisa is from, and Australia...now off to see the south, Vic will do some dock walking, and they are going camping in Tennessee mountains. .but they hope to get a boat and head out soon. we are good..all is well. Keep in touch, and keep Steven in prayers... ma
