It's great to see *all* the McKenzies back in church now. I'll keep lifting Berkley up in prayer for his headaches and nausea. If I had a magic wand I'd abolish migraines everywhere -- his and mine included. Enjoy your summer days together. :-)

Dear Brandi, Doug, and Berkley,
I'm really sorry to hear about your recent headaches and nausea. I can relate, because I have suffered with severe migraines since I was eleven. I'm under the constant care of a good neurologist, and we tinker with my meds to get the best results. Mostly, I'm okay, but I spend enough time in bed to know that a headache can make a person wish that heads were removeable! :-) My prayers are with you, as always. Love and hugs!

Hi Brandi, Just checked the CaringBridge site,as we do from time to time. Sorry to hear that Berkley is having trouble. We'll be praying for Berkley, Doug, you--the whole family--and your doctors. Hope you all can resolve this quickly so that Berkley will be comfortable; and glad to hear that you have help on hand. Wish we were there to be better support--just know that, despite the miles (and years) that lie between us, we love you lots and keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

It was so good to see you yesterday...I know things are stressful but I am so glad you have support. It is hard when the hubby is away and days at the hospital can seem so dreadful. Support from friends and family mean so much. Last year was rough with Big Sean away - but the support from friends and family helped me keep my sanity in days of uncertainty.

There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of Berkley and your family. The tremendous faith, love and strength you all display is such an inspiration to so many of us. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. God has really blessed you with such a beautiful family. I will continue to pray for Berkley's healing and the surgeries to come as well as for the family. Hi, y'all -

I finally found the slip of paper you gave me with the caring bridge info on it at the bottom of my purse! We are glad to hear the surgery was a success but sad that Berkley is in so much pain. We pray he feels better and that the surgery tomorrow goes just as well.

We miss you guys! Every time I walk by your house to go to church I think about you all and say a little prayer. The leaves have almost completely fallen as it was very windy on Thanksgiving day and the day after. Were you as sorry as we were that the Gamecocks lost to Clemson :-(? Oh well (sigh).....

Take care and good luck tomorrow. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Hello and God Bless you all - you don't know me, I am a friend of Tom and Marilyn Woods, Alvarado, TX. I've been following Berkley's progress and I must say you all know there is POWER in PRAYER and I believe that all the prayers certainly have blessed you all. So glad the first surgery is behind you now and soon the second one will be. Berkley, bless your heart, you have been through so much in your short life and now it's time that you get through all this and start having a life full of fun, happiness, and wellness. You are a brave child of God and he will continue to watch over you. I'm so sorry that you have had to endure this illness but as one of God's chosen children you will be rewarded. My hugs to you little one and continue to be brave and strong - we are all proud of you and your progress and will be keeping up with you in the days to come. When a child suffers we all suffer deep in our hearts as we are so helpless, but as we trust in God we are relieved that you are in his hands and he is in control.

Love to you Berkley and your wonderful family there with you,

Hi, You don't know me but I know of your situation via a fellow co-worker. You are in my family's thoughts and prayers and since you believe in prayer, I have a prayer request for you. Family friends of ours were hard-hit recently (perhaps you know of this as it was all over the news): Ryan(14) and Allyson(17) Purvis died after the vehicle Allyson (on my daughter's swim team) was driving was struck by a truck down in Calvert County. Allyson died instantly and Ryan died a few days later. Two friends in the back seat are still hospitalized. Please pray for the Purvis family as they face trying times ahead, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Hi,

My name is Sandy Moore and I am a good friend of Barbara Richardson. Two of my family members are battling cancer, so we are no stranger to it. I live just about 20 minutes from Palo Alto north of where you are now. My family has found that medical and naturopath both seem to help. I do know two good naturopaths in the area a Dr. Connie and a Dr. Treya Powers. Both are close to where you are now and may be able to help you and your son. If you'd like to call me for information or just to pray with you, my number is 650-740-2483. I hope to see you while you are here.

Sincerely,

Sandy Moore

In the meantime, if you need someone to sit in front of his door so he/she can make time in their ever-so-important schedule, I volunteer. In the meantime, I'll pray that the Lord will provide you with the patience you will be needing, and of course, for Berkeley's health. God bless you. See you Wednesday.

Dear Brandi, Doug, and Family:
I was so sad to hear that you had to put off surgery and have so many complicated choices to make. I'm praying that God will lead you and the doctors to the right choice for Berkley, that Berkley will stay healthy and not have any more TIAs while decisions are being made, and that your whole family will be aware of God's great love for each one of you. Please let me know if I can do anything to help during this stressful time.

Hi Brandi and Doug. I have been thinking of you often the past few years and wondering how Berkley was doing. He and my oldest are only a few months apart in age, and it pains me to imagine what you must have felt through all of this. Not having heard anything in a while, I was worried, so I contacted Courtney about a year ago, and she told me about your website. I have checked it periodically though I didn't sign the guestbook as I always seem to have little time to be online. But having a moment now, I thought I would write to say hello and let you know I have been thinking of you, hoping that all is well with you. I saw in the journal that you had only an MRI check and fatigue to report in the last several months compared to the many other worrysome entries posted previously in shorter time spans. That sounds like real progress! I hope that allows you more quality time for yourself and family. I also hope you might be able to email me sometime so we can catch up on things. It was around the time Berkley started his very first treatment that we last chatted through email. I think I still have your picture from Guam on my other computer. I love the picture you posted here of your family. The boys are cuties. Congrats on #3 from what I read in the journal - would love to know when you are due. I just had the last of our crew 2 months ago. I am the proud mama of three troublemaking boys and one girl, ages 6, 4, 16 months and 2 months. Yes, I keep busy.
Well, I hope to hear from you if you have some time; in any case, I will keep checking here on Berkley's progress. Stay strong and faithful.
P.S. I still remember House of Louie. Have you been back in a while - to Florence, that is?

Hey there. We thank God that Berkley's tumor is stable! We remain concerned about his fatigue. I pray that the docs are able to find the cause of his symptoms and have a treatment readily available.

Further, we pray that this is quickly resolved so that your family can go back to "normal!" I put normal in quotes because, well, no family is normal! :)

We love you all.

Hi, Berkley and Garrett! My mom wanted to tell your mom that I look so cute with my first big-boy haircut. I sat in the chair and didn't move a muscle the whole time. My mom doesn't know why she didn't have my hair cut a lot sooner, it looks so cute. Sarah says hi, too!

Hi Berkley and family,
Hello from Boston. Just checking in, I'm pleased to hear that things are going so well. We think of you often. Bridget asks about "the boy with the costumes" and she has very foggy memories of those 2 months! We are about halfway through her treatment, as you know a long difficult road but thankfully no serious complications. Hope things continue to go well with Berkley, you're in our thoughts and prayers. Cheryl and Bridget Sweeney

This sounds like wonderful news. It sounds to me like the best possible outcome has been achieved. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. As I search for the right words, my own limitations are obvious, but keep always in mind that there are lots of people out there who care deeply, share your pain and concern, and continue to hope and pray for Berkley's complete recovery. Best wishes,

We woke up this morning and at first felt sad. "Where is Winston?" asked Carson. Then he answered, "Oh yea! Berkley is home, ohhhhh, whooooo!!" He then ran to chew another piece of gum from the goody bag Berkley brought.

I decided that they should celebrate Berkley's completion of radiation and that large amounts of sugar won't hurt too much! Everytime they eat it they think and talk about Berkley! I guess God works even through a sugar-high!!

You all looked so happy yesterday. Yes, to others reading this, I got to see the entire family yesterday! I told Brian that my heart was so happy to see Berkley grinning from ear to ear the entire time. I know you had "moments" heading home on that long drive and that the last hour is the hardest, but you made it!!

I will spend this weekend thanking God for providing you with the peace, love and faith to endure this difficult time in Boston. He is so good and from what you have told me, He definitely provided!

We look forward to seeing you at Carson's birthday party. As you know, the boys insist that Winston join you! :) We love your pooch and are thankful that we could help out in such a tangible way. He is a sweet dog and is easy to care for. WELCOME HOME

Isn't it amazing that you receive notes from all over the world? I have to admit I was shocked to see another family from the Wichita area writing. Prayer does work and you are getting it from everywhere in a direct line straight to God.
I am so happy for you to be heading home. The DC area has some of the best doctors around so you will be doing great.
Love to the Luke's -aren't they great? Good thing they like pets huh?
Just think how wonderful it will be to be back in your own place. I thank God for that, for Berkley's strong personality, for all of your strong spirits, for the hotel personnel for taking care of you and for all the medical people who have your best interests at heart.
God Bless all of you and enjoy your homecoming.

Only a few more days!!! How will you stand it, a whole house to wander in? I'll bet Winston will be so happy to see you! I love the new pictures! Berk looks like SUCH a big kid in those photos. I was looking at all the pictures you have given me these years I've been his teacher. I was reading a book written by a special ed teacher. She said that we sp. ed teachers are the holders of never-never land in which we held our students only long enough for them not to need us anymore. I pray that God's will be that Berk's need for me will be the tiniest part of his life. With this hope is the fact that he will always have all of my heart. I wish you a safe trip home.

Hey There McKenzies,
You've been on our minds and in our hearts every day and finally I found the note with your web address! We love the photo and appreciate all the news. Berkley is one incredible little guy. Sara particularly misses him and often repeats any number of Berkely quotes or antics when she describes him to anyone that listens. Now that we have your address we can add to the mailman's load.

Each one of you are in our thoughts and prayers each and every day.

Sounds like you got a great room for what you have to do. Nothing like being able to shut a door when the kids are asleep to get some much needed time off.

Don't worry about side effects now. You can deal with any of those when the time comes. As they say cross the bridges as they come and right now it sounds like you have covered bridges rather than ones that swing. God is showing His presence.

Hi guys. The three to four o'clock hour is my time to pray for Berkley. As it is that time, I will share my prayer time with you. Loving God, thank you for the safe arrival of Doug, Brandi, Berkley and Garrett. Hold them all in your welcoming hands so they may have strength for this journey. Guide the doctors and all who assist them that their efforts and the treatments they offer will work together with the touch of Your hand for Berkley's good. May new friends cross their paths whose help will bring strength and hope. And may familiar friends and family be faithful to pray and to be encouraged as we wait for news. For Your love, O God, and for your help we give you thanks. Amen.

Dear Berkley,
Hello. My name is Miss Brooke. I'm a friend of Miss Heather's. I teach first grade. I love teaching! I think kids are the best! During the school year, my students were praying for you. Since, they're on summer break, I thought I'd write to you.
I know you and I have never met; but, I want to pray for you now, as if we were in the same place... talking to God together! Okay, here goes!
"Dear God, please hold Berkley close to Your heart right now. Help him to think of good things, happy things! I pray that You will find lots of ways to put a smile on his face during his new treatment. In Jesus' name we pray, amen!"
There! I think prayer is one of the neatest gifts God has given us. Wow, just think... we actually get to talk to the God of the Universe! That's so cool!
When I get frustrated, mad, sad, happy, glad, whatever, I talk to God and tell Him how I'm feeling. (Even though I think He already knows!) Don't you think it's awesome that He wants us to talk to Him? He's such a good friend.
Keep Talkin' to Jesus!
Love,
Miss Brooke

Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord. You hem me in--behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I made my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, "Surely the darkness will hid me and the light become night around me," even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your throughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you. If only you would slay the wicked, O God! Away from me, you bloodthirsty men! They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name. Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord, and abhor those who rise up against you? I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies. Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." Psalm 139

We love and treasure each one of you, and are praying this on your behalf tonight.
Try to get some rest,
Courtney and gang
