Stephen's Journey Stephen was diagnosed in April of 2003 with Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma (of the orbit). We have completed a year long protocol that included chemo and radiation. He finished treatment the end of March of 2004. Scans are clear, hair is growing, weight is being gained. It has been quite a ride, he is fine, but we all remain forever changed.

Monday, March 15, 2010 6:42 AM CDT It has been almost 2 years between updates! Stephen is 13 now and in the 7th grade. Other than some sinus damage and fine motor difficulities...Stephen has no other signs of problems from the chemo and radiation protocol that he was assigned. I was thinking of Caringbridge this morning as we are getting ready to head to Children's for his yearly checkup. We always go during spring break. This will be the first year that we do not scan. I have mixed emotions about that. ..but he is fine...he has been fine for a long time..scanning has just been a ritual for the past several years I guess. Stephen is a little nervous about this visit as we will be going to the new location. Children's at Legacy in Plano. He is in the ACE (After Care Experience) program now and the clinic for his type of cancer is being held there now. It will be closer for us that is for sure. It is hard to believe that it was just seven short years ago that all of this happened. It seens like a lifetime! Almost like it was someone else...another family...not ours. The only way to get to the other side of something is just through it...and through it we went...now we are different people with a different outlook. Have a great day and a fabulous spring break everyone!
