Well, summer is full swing...I told Abel that we were going to slow down now that school was out but I think our summer is a bit busier than the school year was. Is that possible??
We started out with a vacation to Colorado to visit Nana and Papa, Auntie Moe, Uncle Paul and Kamryn and Auntie Kim, Aunt Andi and Anthony. The weather was beautiful...a little cool at times but NO HUMIDITY:) We went straight from the airport to Auntie Kim's for a BBQ, got to Papa's that evening only to find out that the airlines had called several times to let us know that we took the wrong suitcase with us from baggage claim, lol. We went back to the airport to drop it off and pick ours up knowing full well that there was a tornado warning at the airport. I always wanted to be a storm chaser, lol!! It rained a little bit but no tornados for us(thank you Lord!!) The next day we went to Estes Park, a small town in the mountains. It's really beautiful up there. We had dinner at Cinzetti's, a wonderful italian buffet and the next day went back to the mountains to find some snow and do some sledding. The kids had a wonderful time and I got some some excellent pictures! We went to Webster Lake and I got to meet up with some old friends from high school, one of them I hadn't seen in 16 years! The kids played at the park and rode the paddle boats, it was a fun day! Later that evening Abel and I went with Auntie Moe and Uncle Paul to the Grizzley Rose...it just so happened that Jason Boland and the Stragglers were in town!! Woohoo!! Aunt Andi made us a homemade greek style dinner the next night and the kids had a silly string fight. Papa and Nana took us all to BassPro Shop the next day(Papa's a gunsmith there)and the kids took advantage of the camp sessions they had going on. They shot a bow and arrow, got their pictures taken, painted plaster animal prints and enjoyed starbucks. We hated to say goodbye but it was time to come back home:(
Maycie started day camp at The Wetlands Center this week. They have visited the Butterfly Exhibit, went crabbing, visited the aquarium at Kemah, ate lunch on the boardwalk, played in the water, learned about honeybees and are expected to go to the zoo and the nature center. She is having so much fun!! Her friend Shawnee is there also and she's been great at helping Maycie and being there for her. I hope this is something that she can do again next year!!
We also joined the Nature Challenge 2009. Teams have eight weeks to visit as many participating parks and nature areas in Southeast Texas as possible. At each site we will complete activities designed for family fun and nature exploration. There are 14 parks and nature centers all over southeast Texas that we will be visiting. We will be keeping a log of the activities that we complete and turning them into a scrapbook. We will then turn in the scrapbook to the judges at the end of the 8 weeks and hope we win:) We are so excited to get started. Our first one is going to be this weekend!!
In 2 weeks, Maycie will be going to The Texas School for the Blind for a week and then back home for a day and then off to Camp Quality for a week....I'm gonna miss her so much!! She's having a blast though so who am I to stop her??
Please keep Maycie in your prayers. She will go for her annual long term survivor's visit at Texas Children's Hospital in August. I know that everything is going to be okay but a few extra prayers headed her way couldn't hurt ;-) THANKS!!
We hope that everyone is enjoying their summer break as much as we are! We love you and thank you for your thoughts, prayers and guestbook entries!!
Your gift will help millions of people stay connected with friends and loved ones during challenging times.
