MAYCIE LEIGHAN

Journal

Thursday, October 2, 2008 8:26 AM CDT

Oh, where to start, lol. First I should say...WE SURVIVED HURRICANE IKE!!!! LOL, more on that in a bit though.

The kiddos went to Camp Quality this summer. It was Maycie and Victoria's 5th year and AJ's 2nd. The theme this year was medieval so I made the kiddos costumes and they looked AWESOME if I do say so myself;-) Check them out on the homepage. We have been very blessed to have been able to have the same companions every year so far. The kiddos have really come to love the staff and volunteers at Camp Quality. They are truly a part of our family!

After Camp Quality, Maycie went off to The Texas School For The Blind for a week...the most miserable week of my life, lol. I missed her terribly and I cried daily but she had so much fun. They went out into the community twice a day, learned independence and life skills (not that Maycie needed to be tought to be independent, lol). They went to restraunts and the grocery store but they were taught to do everything on their own. I was so proud of her. She said that she wants to stay for the 2 week session next summer. She'll be going again in December and in February for a week at a time and she is super excited. I'm going to go ahead and stock up on my tissues now, lol.
In August, Hurricane Ike hit us. We evacuated to Corpus Christi and hung out at the beach and with family. We had a wonderful time catching up but not knowing if our house was okay really put a damper on the weekend. The storm hit in the wee hours of Saturday morning and Monday we started back home. Of course all the signs were telling us not to come back to Houston b/c it wasn't safe but who listens to those anyway, right?LOL We just passed them up and continued home. When we got here we couldn't believe some of the damage done to the community. Wow!! Other than trees down(within inches of the house and garage) and some damage to the trampoline, we pulled through wonderfully. We had power within 5 or 6 hours of getting home and our lanlord helped clear out our front and back yard. The Lord was really watching out for us. HE is good!! We have one tree left(a REALLY big one in the very back yard) but it's not in the way right now so we'll leave it until we can get to it. Maycie's Brownie troop got together after the storm and made thank you cards and delivered brownies to the volunteers and disaster relief personel at one of the P.O.D.'s

Maycie continues to do well in school. She wants to start cheerleading but I'm not sure about that right now. We'll see:) The year has gone by without any meltdowns so far. She's been happy and not depressed. She's doing well. She had a hearing test done last week. It's a routine test to make sure that there's no hearing damage as a result of the chemo. She passed with flying colors!! No excuses for "not hearing what I said" now, lol.
Take care and thank you for keeping up with us. We really enjoy reading your guestbook entries so keep them coming! May God bless each and every one of you just as he has blessed us.
Brandi
