Dinah Catherine Matthews (April 1, 1993 - September 17, 2005)

Dinah's name means "You have been set free, delivered, protected from attack and defended"

Dinah was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia on July 26, 2004, at the age of 11. Her white blood cells were 600,000 - normal is between 5,000 - 12,000. She did one round of chemo at TCH and came home on September 1, 2004. Dinah was able to be with her family and friends, seeing another doctor, enjoying a normal life. On Christmas Eve, as the snow began to fall, we were told that Dinah's cancer had returned. Relishing what was to be our last Christmas together, she was admitted to MDA the following morning. With two more rounds of chemo completed, Dinah had a bone marrow transplant on April 20th, with her 16 year old brother, Micah, as the donor. Dinah's only problem with GVH was her liver. She was released l00 days after transplant but we found out from a test the day before that the cancer had come back. We went home for one day and returned the next because of pain. Dinah began chemo again; this time she stayed cancer free. But because of all she had been through (chemo/radiation/drugs/GVHD), her little body had grown weary. On September 17, 2005, Dinah, our precious "Pookie", went to be with Jesus. She went peacefully, on her own, knowing her family was going to be all right. Dinah fought the good fight, she finished the course, she kept the faith. And through this journey with cancer, she became a hero to all who watched - near and far - displaying strength and grace, hope and love. She learned to trust the One who gave her life - and ultimately brought her home. Yes...God is still good and we yearn for the day when we will all be together again

"To see the King in His beauty must be our one desiring; to hunger, thirst, and take our fill of Him. And if He makes us stand in some obscure and darkened corner of His palace yard, we can be sure He puts us there because from that distinct advantage we, with our present stature, will behold Him best whenever He comes passing by." Hello Everyone,

“but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18

There is really no easy way to say this except that this will be my last post on Dinah’s site. The Lord spoke to my heart back in September and said, “It is time to walk away.” And I knew; and by His grace I willingly do so...

So thank you, dear ones, for loving Dinah and being there for our family during the most trying time of our lives. Each and every one of you were a precious gift from the Lord and we will never forget your kindness - in thought, word, and deed. The scripture that comes to mind is Hebrews 6:10 -

“For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints.”

And as George would always end his journaling here, “God is glorified, God was glorified, and God will continue to be glorified”...

I’ll close with this -

“My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen” 1 Corinthians 15:24
