Dear Baylie,
What a beautiful young lady and inspiration you are to so many others. I read about you in a Chicago newspaper a few years ago and recently picked up a Chicago Parent paper and saw another article about you. My own daughter, who is 22, has become involved in a non-profit organization for cancer survivors because one of her very best friends was diagnosed with lymphoma and is on the road to a full recovery. I am going to buy some of your bracelets in the Chicagoland area and make sure these young women wear them and explain to all their friends who you are and what you have done for others. May the Lord continue to bless you and your family Baylie.

Hi! I was wondering if you will be in Chicago next week sometime. I know you had talked about the fundraiser, but wasn't sure if that meant you would be at the RMH or if it was even close by. I will be in Chicago next week, and we hope to stay at the RMH. I thought it would be cool if we could met sometime. We will get to Chicago on tuesday, but probably not until the late afternoon/early evening. I don't know how long we will be there for. If you and Baylie are interested in meeting, please either email me or drop me a note in my guestbook! I will keep praying for Baylie!

We have a family right here in our neighborhood with the same condition as you, everyone but the Father. If you visit www.ftimes.com and click on photo gallery you will find the pictures. One is of the mother with children and the other is father with son. I have 2 healthy children(well young adults) and I feel very blessed. I am going to order some bracelets. I am sorry tp hear your headaches have returned. Alex and I say prayers for you guys every night. I understand how hard it is to watch your child enjoy being child and know that they will pay for it later. Alex does the same thing. And you know how hot it gets here in Houston! Keep your chin up like you always do and know you are thought of every day. Alex keeps Baylie's picture on our fridge. She is an inspiration to us and so many others. GOD Bless Your Family

Dear Baylie,

My son, Nathaniel, was back at Comer's Children Hospital yesterday for a hernia repair. This was pretty mild compared to brain resection surgery last summer. I met a mom in the elevator whose child had just had decompression surgery with Dr. Frim and of course your name came up. We both showed each other the Baylie Owens bracelets we were wearing.

Later that day we were in the recovery room and I heard Dr. Frim's voice and it was comforting to me. Dr. Frim did Nathaniel's brain resection last summer but not this surgery yesterday. Nathaniel did have to stay overnight for monitoring due to his uncontrolled seizures.

This morning while I was in the family lounge getting a cup of coffee and a bagel I met another Mom from California whose child, Dante, had just had decompression surgery the day before. Guess what? She also had a bracelet on made by Baylie Owens.

Baylie your efforts to make people aware of Chiari are tremendous. You have gone nationwide with your story and your efforts to fundraise have been extraordinary.

You are a strong and brave girl who has touched my heart and so many others. Keep up the fight and I hope that your days can be more peaceful.

Tessie you are a warm, kind and loving mother trying to do all that you can for your child. I understand being overwhelmed with watching your child do a normal child activity only to be wiped out later. I also wish that I could wave a magic wand and make it all better but I can't all that I can do is make Nathaniel's life all that it can be and have peace knowing that I have done that.

You and Baylie are such a fantastic team and have touched so many peoples lives. Keep up the good work.

Nathaniel's website is www.caringbridge.org/il/natesdome.

Thanks again for touching my life.

Baylie and family - I'm so sorry that you have to endure daily headaches, medications, surgeries and everything else that goes along with this likesucker. I have a friend that was just informed that she is in need of surgery for her Chiaris - she is 35, married and has two children and she is scared to death. I saw the article in People last fall and told her about your website and she frequents it and I believe that it helps her. She just called me to tell me that we need to order bracelets and I suggested that we help make them. I hope that you start feeling better soon because your childhood is one of the best times of your life. Always look to God for support. He will never fail you, even when you feel that He has. God Bless and keep up the good work raising money. Love Pam Hochstedler :o)~

Baylie...at 7 yrs old, you are the reason i am still standing...about the time serious depression was setting in, you came along and made me realize that I had 2 choices. I could be sad and do nothing, or I could help you raise money and awareness...you changed me and I cannot thank you enough. I am so sad you feel bad, I wish it were me instead. I got to play and have fun as a kid and I would love to be able to give you at least that. Please know that you and your family are loved by many, but especially by me and if you ever need anything, even just a hug, you call me! Hang in there, you are one of the toughest people I know. I totally agree with Cathy's comment that they "pay to play". So very true. Drew was active this weekend and enjoying swimming and playing with his cousins and after having a couple of really good low symptom weeks, the pain and tingling in the legs, headaches, and nausea returned for the past three days. His last MRI wasn't too bad so surgery is not an option for symptoms right now. Just pain killers and slowing him down. It is really hard to slow down a ten year old boy in the summertime. But if he doesn't slow down, he pays for it. That stinks. How I wish our kids could be free to just be kids...I hope Baylie bounces back symptom wise with a little down time. She's doing an awesome job of being the voice of chiari.

I just wanted to say that I think it is wonderful all of the hard work you are doing for research for Chiari Malformations. I recently underwent surgery for my Chiari malformation and suffered complications including hydrocephalus after the surgery. In my case I did not require a shunt, the surgery so far has repaired the damage. But after going through the situation myself and being as lucky as I have been it is great to be able to suppourt something dear to my own heart and someone as inspiring as Baylie. May God continue to bless you and yours as he has mine. And thanks for all of your hard work!

Hey Baylie!!! I'm soooo glad your surgery went well! I was actually right there with ya, I got my first shunt infection and had emergency surgery on June 20th. I'm too old now for Dr. Frim to sneak me into Comer's which is sad because its a beautiful place LOL My mom and I were thinking about you guys. Mom wanted to try and find a way to meet you but I didn't want to bother you ^^; I feel bad though, I've got 70 bracelets here that I haven't mailed to you yet because of recovery being so tough this time. I promise I'll send them soon! OH! And just so you know, one of my many nurses in the adult hospital was wearing one of your bracelets ^-^ It made my day so I wanted to say thank you again for all you do. Hey Baylie and mom...hope you're enjoying your summer up north. Texas is as hot as usual. We spend most of our time in water of some sort or another to keep cool. We might be moving house soon too, but just to Sugar Land. Drew has had a pretty good past couple of weeks. Being a 10 year old boy he is having to be discouraged from picking fist fights because the other kids always want to go straight for his head. When will he ever learn? Maybe you can talk some sense into him at Camp Chiari next month. Can't wait to see you guys again...and thanks so much for adding the link to Drew's webpage. that's so cool.

Hi Baylie: I do hope and pray that you are feeling better. I was 55 years old when the dr. told me I had a chiari Malformation. He also said my fourth ventricle did not close when my Mom was pregnant with me. And I had a 12 in. long syrnix in my spinal cord. Gosh!! I thought I was a perfect baby, and they just now tell me. I'm really old . A grandmother with three beautiful grandchildren. Bo is 12 , Ali is 8 and Shaylee is 4. I love them soooo much. I just saw the article in April People magazine. I am so thankful that you were able to raise that much money for this terrible and most painful disease. I had surgery June o5
then a shunt NOv. 05. I had to quit work but now I get to see my grandkids much more. Love to you

Dear Baylie: if it was not for story in people magazine I would not have found Dr. Frim for my 16 year daughter who also has a chiari and a syringomyelia. The doctors in Tucson said she should just live her life in pain. I did not read the first story, but the update. I pray Dr. Frim can help my daughter, she has lost the feeling in her left hand, headaches, shoulder pain, neck pain, and she feels her left leg go numb and can not use it, she has missed a lot of school. Baylie, that is AWESOME, I have just found out that I have Chiari type I, I am 33, my Mother and Brother also had it, and they are going to give my 3 children MRI's to test them. They are calling it Clustering, since so many people in my family has had it. Keep up the good work, this world needs many more BAYLIE'S in it. I do hope someday they find away to cure it. I totally refuse to have the surgery, due to personal complications with my brother's surgery. Until they find another way if not in my life time, I will continue to hope and pray they find a way besides surgery to fix the problem, I will continue to support the cause, that has affected very few of us, and my 8 year old daughter said it best, "Mommy the reason God let you and so few people have it is because he only wanted the best to deal with something like that". My thoughts and prayers are with you. Keep doing what your doing and God will Bless you even more.

Hi Baylie, I too have chiari mal. I was diagnosed ablut 10 years ago. THE DOCTORS thought I had MS. After many MRI's a different prognosis was given. I had surgery and a shunt was put in. I still have high pressure in my upper ventricles but no pain. I am still having trouble walking sometimes. I am 55 years old and my surgery was in 1996. Stay positive and enjoy yourself. Hi Baylie and family,
I had never heard of chiari until my oldest son was injured in a wrestling practice which caused temporary paralysis in February 2006. After seeing a doctor, I picked up the People magazine and it had your article in it. I was shocked to hear others have this condition. He had surgery on April 21st and all went very well. He will be returning to school on May 8th. I think it is awesome all the hard work you have put into raising money to help research of Chiari. I will be ordering your bracelets to help you out. I also bought a print from Kara. Thanks again.

Hey,

My name is Clinton Wilson and I just got my surgery done and it went well. Now I'm at my house and I can't go back to scholl until another two weeks. So, my mom actually went to my school and got all the work from my teachers and my language arts teahcer assigned me a research project. For my project I have to pick a topic that I am interested in and I also have to write a paper and include pictures. I have decided to do my project on Chiari Malformation and I was wondering if I could use some of your pictures in my project. If I can do you mind if I use some of your pictures off your website or could you send me some pictures of you in general or whenever. I would really appreciate it if I could use them but if not then it's ok, Well I'll talk to you later.

Hi, Baylie! I have a little niece named Baylie, too! I think that you are one very beautiful, loving little girl. I felt so proud of you when I read about what you are doing to raise money to find a cure for this disease that you have! And your bracelets are so very beautiful!
Your Mommy and Daddy must be so VERY proud of you, honey.
Keep up the good work. God loves you and so do I! And you will always have my prayers to find a cure for your disease. You are truly an inspiration to me!

You are a very brave little girl. I was 27 when I was diagnosed with Chairi 1 Malformation and this only happened because I had to be rushed to the hospital because the headaches got so bad. To be your age and be so brave is amazing. You encourage us all to be brave.

Dear Baylie,
Happy Spring! Congratulations on your efforts to raise funds for Chiari Malformation research and to provide awareness for this condition. One of my four daughters was
diagnosed with Chiari 2 years ago (at age 13) and is now doing well after surgery to repair severe scoliosis last year. I plan to buy a bracelet for all of us to wear in support of your wonderful work. Our love and prayers are with you and your family.

Baylie...After reading an article about you in People Magazine I had to get out of bed where I have been resting since back surgery last Thursday. It's 1am on Tues and I can't sleep so I'm reading an article about you. You have the most angelic smile and face. When I hear of any selfless act from man, woman or child it makes me want to be a better person. Tonight I will say a prayer for you that God will keep you safe and give you strength to continue your amazing quest to find a cure. Sometimes it only takes one voice to make a huge difference in so many lives.
You have that voice!!!
A BIG hug from my heart to you!

Hi All!
My sister and I just ordered some bracelets. We both have Chiari, I was diagnosed when I was 20 and she was diagnosed at the age of 26. We both have had successful decompressions, thank goodness! My journey with Chiari was relatively smooth, I was diagnosed and had surgery within 2 months. For my sister the road was not quite as smooth, she was diagnosed, but it took years to find a surgeon to do her surgery. There is so much left to learn about Chiari and peoples experiences are so varied.
I commend you for your work. I will be forwarding this link to all of my friends.
Thanks again from your friends in Wisconsin,

Gabbi and Randi

Baylie, I am 38 years old and was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation in 2001. I had the brain surgery and it helped for about one year. Since then, I have had headaches very often and now I am getting them every day. I also have been taking Topomax for about three years but this week my Dr. also has taken me off it because of the side effects. I understand what you are going through with the pain and I will pray for you every day. No one should have to suffer with headaches like this ever. I would love to hear from your mother and maybe get some better information about this disease. I will include my e-mail address so she can write. God Bless You! Baylie,
Wow. I just can't believe that you are 6 years old and you make all these bracelettes, plus, you deal with all the symptoms of your diesease and the stress involved. These past few weeks that Ms. Andi has been telling us about you, you have been my inspiration! Everyday, as soon as I get out of bed, my day usually and generally starts with moaning, groaning, and complaining; then I will look down at my wrist and see my bracelettes! They constantly shine, and jingle, and make noise: a constant reminder of YOU! I think about how brave, determined, sweet and caring you are, and I say, "I want to be like Baylie!" Your bracelettes not only make money to try and find a cure for your diesease, but they make evryone so happy! My bracelettes put me in a great frame of mind... and my friends, too! Now, my friends all want to buy bracelettes! Everyone is so fascinated by the work you do: When I tell someone about you, they say, "Omigoodness! She's so little... and she does all that?! WOW! I need a bracelette!!" You may be little, but everyone agrees you have a huge heart. <3

You are such a happy girl, and I just can't wait to meet you on April 5th with the rest of the Kingwood Strutters! You should visit the Strutter website to get to know where you are going: www.kingwoodstrutters.com. I love my four bracelettes, and I wear them all the time!!! Even though most Strutters are at least 5-7 years older than you, Baylie, you are OUR BIGGEST ROLE MODEL! So::: Please keep up the good work, and know that the Strutters are your biggest supporters and friends!!! Ms. Andi absolutley adores you, and speaks very highley of you!! We love you so much!!

Please send me an email sometime and tell me how you are doing! I would absolutley LOVE to hear from you!! You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hey! I am one of the million of Strutters that have been on your website. You are in for some great surprises. I would tell you but that would ruin the surprise. I just got done sending a e-mail to Oprah requesting for you to be on her show. I don't have a bracelet yet because the studio ran out, but I am buying one. That is a good thing because if people are buying them you have more money to give. Everyone at the studio has maybe four each. I admire how you put a blue bead on because of your middle name and because you were born a blue moon. BAYLIE ROCKS!!!! YOU ARE A SUPER STAR! I will be posting notes everyday. Haleye moon. Hello sweetie, My name is Lori, I am 37 years old and have 2 small children, 6 and 3. I was diagnosed with Chiari last June. I considered surgery, but as a single mom my children need me and so will have to wait until they are older. I'm proud of you, Chiari is no fun but at least I know that my symptoms are from a real disease and not just, well, all in my head. No pun intended. Take care and I will check up on you from time to time via your webpage.

Hello Baylie and Family

Thank you for your efforts to help so many. The work and love and generosity has been spread to so many, it gives me faith in humanity again.
My wife, Andi, is constantly updating me on how "baylie and family" are doing. And the look on her face as she talks about it...well I have to say thank you as well.
All of humanity and our society has been bettered by your life.
Thank you

Hi! My name is Traci and my daughter is 6 years old. She was diagnosed this year with a craniopherengioma. It is a tumor in the brain near the pituitary gland. She has had one surgery followed by Proton Radiation. My daughters dance at Stacey's and I read about you in an email. I am touched and amazed at the goodness that is coming out of your difficult situation. I am inspired by your cause and would love to reach out in some way to help others like my daughter. You should be on Oprah and I will email her next!! God Bless you and your family!!

Hi Baylie,

My name is Melissa and I was diagnosed with Arnold Chari type two when I was 16 years old. I had surgery when I was 17 and I have been doing well ever since. I just want to tell you that I think you are doing a great job raising money to help fight this. I have a daughter that is seven and thankfully she doesn't have the same problem as us. I wish you and your family the best of luck. You will be in my prayers. I plan on getting one of your braclets for me and my daughter Ashley.

Greetings from Oak Ridge Tennessee.
My daughter in Humble Texas told me about you and I sure do hope you get to the Oprah show.
Baylie - you are one special little girl. You are making lemonade out of the lemons life has tossed your way.

Susan St. James on Oprah a few weeks back talking about the loss of her son and she said two things that will stick with me forever (and I think you're a shining example of both).

She said people asked if she was bitter and angry with God about the accident (that took her son) and she said no. She said "we are not human beings having a spirtual experience -- we are spiritual beings having a human experience."

Best wishes to you, little angel.

Hi Bailie, my name is Molly. I am the sister of Ryan, who has the same illness as you. He has Chiari malformation. I really hope he can live pain free someday, so I want ot help you raise money. Today at shool, my principle said he wants to help raise and donate money to you so you can give it to Doctor Frim for the research. He offered to possibly donate $1000 plus, we will have other fundraising events going on to hopefully make that higher. I know $1000 sounds little compared to how much you have already raised, but I figure every little bit will help. Anyway... I'm glad you are caring about others and are doing this, because I dream you and many others will live pain free someday.

Hello Baylie and family! I live in Cypress, Texas - apparently not too far from where you used to live in Jersey Village. I first read about you in a free magazine we receive in the mail called "Neighborhood Family Guide for Northwest Houston". I saved the article because I wanted to look at your website. Before I had a chance to do that I saw the article about you in "People Magazine". Wow, you are a celebrity! I looked at some of your guest books entries and noticed people from all over the world are writing to you.

Today I finally took the time to look at your website. I think it looks fantastic. I read the journal your mom has written about you. I felt so sad every time she mentioned your pain. But then I felt happy every time she wrote about your donations to Dr. Frim!

I think you are a VERY brave girl and I will keep you in my prayers from now on. I look forward to visiting your website again to find out how you are doing.

Thank you for teaching me about Chiari and Psuedotumor. Now all I have to do is learn how to pronounce the words!

I have 3 daughters who like jewelry. I am going to order bracelets for them (and maybe splurge for one for myself too!). I look forward to receiving them.

Good luck and stay brave. I think your mom seems like a great mom and she works hard to help you. I am sending good thoughts for you, your mom and all your family.

I hope that you are having a better week than last week. I have two little girls 4 1/2 and 2 and I pray that they will be as strong willed and loving as you. We are adding you to our prayer list tonight at church. I know that God is watching out for you and using you to help others with the same illness. Someday there will be a cure for this. Hello from Lebanon, thank you for signing Kaitlyn's guestbook, the purpose of the bracelets we are doing are two: first the girls who have cancer that are admitted into the hospital will pass time with their families doing them and when they leave they keep all the materials in the hospitals for other girls, that way they won't feel bored, the other one is when we sell them the money will go to Chance organization that helps kids with cancer to afford their treatments, we also do activities and this summer we will organize the first camp for kids with cancer. the first bracelet that will be done, we will send it to you for free because we got the idea for you and we want to honor you.
We are thinking for things boys can do if you have ideas we welcome them gladly.
Take care and God bless you.

She was diagnosed when she was 16 and had two decompression surgeries. She has done well and has 3 children of her own now. I pray your future will be a happy pain free. Dear Baylie,
I just wanted to tell you your struggle is very touching and I think you are a very brave girl. I heard about this disease from a friend in Nova Scotia whose husband has just been diagnosed, and I can't believe the little press it gets. Have you thought about contacting Oprah Winfrey, since she's in Chicago where your doctor is? I'm sure she'd do something to help your cause, even if it was to just bring the worlds attention to it. I wish you health and peace, little warrior, and you're in my thoughts.

Baylie,
You and your mom are such a great team! I am so proud to be a part of the "chiari family", because of kids like you :) You make me want to keep going, even when it's not easy! All 3 of my girls were just diagnosed too, so it's been a hard road. We love you, Baylie!
