WELCOME TO TAYLOR'S PAGE!
Taylor has wrestled with Severe Atopic Dermatitis and Asthma since birth. Atopic Dermatitis is often misunderstood, it is not uncommom for people to assume it is a small rash caused by a slight allergy or irritation. In it's most severe form, like Taylor's, it can be debilitating. In October, 2004 we also learned that Taylor is 2 Standard Deviations below the normal growth rate, likely due to the steroid therapy he has received over his lifetime. Currently, the endocrinologist classifies him at the standard for a 13-year-old male, not a real happy place for a young man of 16. Taylor has also been diagnosed with Juvenile Osteoporosis, this comes with it's on set of problems and complications. One thing is for sure what Taylor lacks in size he makes up for in heart. Just ask anyone who knows him! Taylor has seen the difficult times become more frequent, he spent most of the 2004 Summer on the futon bed in the family room - Fall brought increased flares, discomfort, and dangerous infections. In September,2004, he became unable to attend school. By October he was not able to walk and was admitted to VCH for a greuling 7-day stay. It was during that hospital stay that his medical team confirmed that Taylor's Atopic Dermatitis is actually the result of a non-specific immune system disorder.
Taylor would have much preferred to spend his first year of High School in the hallways and classrooms of MHMS, where he was enrolled at the time. We continue to pray that we will get this "thing" under control and Taylor will have the "normal" teenage lifestyle he craves. Normal Teenager - Does such a creature exist? Taylor returned to school in August, 2005, transferred out of the Magnet School to Beech Senior High, in September, which was a huge disappointment for him as he loved his school, the faculty and his classmates. The work load and pace were extremely stressful, given his absentee rate. We were in hopes that the move would reduce a portion of the academic stress and enable him to stay in the classroom. No such luck, he was referred back to homebound on October 24, 2005. We had prayed this would be short lived. We did not get the answer we were looking for, Taylor continues as a homebound student as mid-term of his Junior year of High School approaches.

Saturday, April 7, 2007 8:06 AM CDT April 8, 2007 – GOOD NEWS BLURB
After an absolutely awful Wednesday, Thursday & Friday morning, Taylor had a burst of energy and was able to join Michael, Travis, Eric, & Jace at Montgomery Bell State Park for an overnight at the campground. I am sure this burst had something to do with the large doses of Prednisone, but who cares what the reason, we will take the good times where we can get them. They have returned home and all is well. What a wonderful Easter Blessing…Taylor enjoying himself with family doing normal things!
We are doing something very exciting at our house and hope you will want to show your support of our efforts. On May 11th & 12th we will be participating in the American Cancer Society Sumner County Relay For Life as part of the Connor’s Courage Team. You can read more about Connor and his battle with Rhabdo at his page.
Because of the unpredictableness of Taylor’s health, we aren’t sure how much time he will actually spend at the event, but he has set his sights on attending and will work diligently to be there for as much of the event as possible, either way the two of us and Travis will be there the entire time and will proudly represent Taylor and our entire family as we work hand-in-hand with the American Cancer Society and other members of the Connor’s Courage Team to remove the devastating effects of cancer from all our lives.
In case you aren’t familiar, let me tell you a bit about RLF…
Relay For Life® is a fun-filled overnight event designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer in our community. At the event, we celebrate survivorship and raise money to help the American Cancer Society in its mission to save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer, and empower individuals to fight back. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.
But, Relay is much more than a walk around a track. It is a time to remember those lost to cancer and celebrate those who have survived. It is a night for people who have shared the same experience to comfort and console one another. During this event, we honor survivors during the Survivors Lap and we remember those we lost to cancer during the Luminaria Ceremony. We also celebrate life, friendship, and a chance to work together toward a cancer-free future.
Most importantly, Relay gives you the power to help in the fight against cancer. By joining together as volunteers and donors, our efforts help the American Cancer Society strive toward a future where cancer doesn’t take the lives of our friends and family.
As part of their efforts, as RLF Team Members, each of the boys has set a personal fundraising goal of $200.00, if you would like to help them by making a donation to the American Cancer Society, just click on the link below to go to their personal fundraising page. If you prefer to make an off-line donation, you can print a donation form from the webpage or send us an e-mail and we’ll get you what you need
