Julie, I feel some of your pain. My son was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma at birth in 1994. He had 6 rounds of chemo and I think it has long term effects also. In the last few years he has been diagnosed with ADHD, Tourettes and Sensory Integration. He has depression and some anger issues. Reading your story hits home with my sons problems. Hang in there and take it a day at a time.

I have both bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder, which I'm guessing by your post Ashley has too. It's hard to get the right dosage of meds sometimes. I was on celexa for many years and it really helped me.

I'm emailing you as I do a fundraiser every July for NB kids. I'd love to feature Ashley!

Isaiah 40:18-31
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Hip hop, hippety hop
My “Easter Bunny” went off to the shop,
He bought me an egg and lots of chocs
And packed them into a cardboard box.
Then he wrapped it with paper and shiny string
It really was such a pretty thing.
Disaster struck when I opened the door-
He slid across the parquet floor,
He went round the corner and past the stairs
And finished up in a pile of chairs.
Of the Easter goodies not a trace,
he’d thrown them into my fireplace!
So a warning before you go opening doors
Make sure your “Bunny” has non-slip paws!

Happy Easter

With lots of love,

What a beautiful child you have.....
My son Jamie, aged 5, had Neuroblastoma, diagnosed in 2003.
Unfortunately, he passed away last year, but we have started a Charity in his honour; http://www.daydreams.uk.com, and he still has a website at http://www.beebo.info

I would like to add your beautiful brave child to my growing collection of Neuroblastoma children, featured at http://www.beebo.info/warriors.htm with your permission.

Found written on the back of my Eagle certificate as a boy, and which has been a source of strength for me through the years, "Good timber does not grow with ease; the stronger the wind, the stronger the trees." by J. Willard Marriott

Another favorite - Mark Twain on Regrets

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the things you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream."

One more favorite of the many I've shared with my kids,

Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed".

Miss Ashley,
What is up with you, little one? You are such a big girl, and we are all so proud of you going potty like a big girl. I hope you are enjoying the warmer weather we have had (well, not the past few days). Think about it...diapers will sure be hot in the summer. I know you can get back into your big girl pants. A PRAYER FOR CHRISTMAS

God Give Us eyes this Christmas
To see the Christmas Star.
And give us ears to hear the song
of angels from afar

And, with our eyes and ears attuned
for a message from above,
Let "Christmas Angels" speak to us
of hope and faith and love

Hope to light our pathway
When the way ahead is dark,
Hope to sing through stormy days,
with the sweetness of the lark

Faith to trust in things unseen
and know beyond all seeing
That it is in our Fathers love
We live and have our being

And love to break down barriers
of color, race and creed,
Love to see and understand
and help all those in need.

Lord, bless those we love this Christmas Day,be they near or far away Bless those good friends who mean so much and those with whom we're out of touch. We bring them all to You in prayer, and ask You to keep them in Your care.

Please know that you are thought of, in a very special way, not just this beautiful season but every day.

Hi Miss Ashley,
How are you doing? I'm glad you had a lovely visit with your Grandparents. Grandpa Henry sounds like a wonderful grandpa. I bet you have him wrapped around your little finger. That's a big girl to mind Grandpa!
Has your runny nose gotten better? I hope it hasn't gone into a cold. It may be allergies with all the pollen flying around. I know Cameron sneezes about 50 times a day. It starts when he goes outside.
You take care, little one. Mind your Mommy. You're a sweetie.

Ashley and Julie,
Hello! It's been a while since I've signed in. I've been checking on you, but things around here have been hectic and I'm trying to get back into a routine. We've got some things going on with Caleb, etc....I read where your last set of scans were clean. YAHOO! I know they will be fine in July, too. Julie, just wanted to let you in on a little secret....People tell you that the TWO's are terrible? It's a lie. The THREE's are horrific! I'm living it right now with Cameron. They are checking out their boundaries and being more verbal, they tend to show out in public. He's trying out the hitting thing too. It's the age, Julie, I promise. Hang in there, this too shall pass.

Dear friends,

I had surgery on my shoulder on Friday to repair a ton rotator cuff and tendon. While it is strenous and frustrating to have to type with one finger I am also thankful I can still check on all of you. I was nervous about the surgery but could feel the prayers of many of you and felt at peace as I went into surgery. Thank you for your prayers.

The real point to my email is not my surgery. I swore during Jen's illness I would never take anything for granted but as life goes on it is easy to revert to old habits. I am facing several weeks of limited use of my left arm, but am thankful this will soon pass. There are many who face a lifetime of disability due to the ravages of these horrible diseases.

My anxiety was nothing in comparison to the fear many of you face on a day to day basis. My heart goes out to you. HUG YOUR CHILD AND TELL THEM HOW SPECIAL THEY ARE. Remind them they touch our hearts and souls and set us on a straighter path.

Lastly, our children are true heroes. They face pain, suffering and uncertainty with far more courage and strength than many of us possess. And certainly with more grace than I have.

In many ways my surgery was a blessing. As I struggled with pain this weekend I thought of the pain my Jen and all of your children endure without complaining and I was in tears and ashamed. I am reminded we still take too much for granted. Nothing is guaranteed to us in life so we must take advantage of every moment and every blessing. I am also humbled.

I was touched by the cards and emails from so many of you who took time from your own struggles to pray for me and touch my heart with your love and support.

You ARE in my heart and prayers and I remember lessons I learned in the past. Today you and your children reminded me to count my blessings. I am praying for bountiful blessings and miracles for each of you.

With much love,

Judy

I wish for you the Christmas joy
That comes to hearts of a girl and a boy
Carefree days of winter play
Snowball fights and a ride in a sleigh
Frolicking puppies and mischievous kittens
A warm winter jacket and colorful mittens
Peaceful cattle on a hill
Snow covered nights when stars stand still
Peace in your heart from up above
Wrapped in God's Spirit and tied up with love
My wish for you is Christmas joy
The kind that's meant for a girl and a boy.

Hey precious girl! I LOVE you picture with Santa Clause! You are such a little doll! I know Grandma will be happy to see your FIRST picture with Santa. You were such a big girl. I hope you had fun over here. We enjoyed you and Mommy spending the evening with us.

Wow!!! What a great picture and what beautiful hair! I am all about hair now that I am watching Michaela's hair come back in! Congratulations on great news from all the docs!!!Awsome news for two awsome ladies!

On to the juice subject, my twins were addicted to milk in a sippy. They LOVED it! It was their comfort item and was very difficult to take it away. I understand what you're going through. I found my boys really liked to drink my drinks, so I started buying the pony bottles of water and drinking them. I gave them sippycups when the really needed them, but they soon started drinking so much more of my water that they didn't need the sippycups so often. Good luck!

I will keep your mom in my prayers! Hopefully, this will be corrected with angioplasi and no open heart will be on her agenda!

God Bless! http://www.caringbridge.org/pa/michaelaann

Hi Julie,
Great job on keeping up Ashley's journal!
I like to come by and read the updates.
As to a 2 year old throwing food...I raised
a few myself and I think it goes with
the territory. Just know that 'this too
shall pass' and she'll come up with
something new to keep you entertained.
Know that you all are in my prayers.
I'll be back next week to see
how everyone's doing.

Hi Ashley and Juli! My boys are 4 1/2 and still play with their food, so I am sure that I am not the mom that could give any advice about that happy issue! Isn't it wonderful that these are our problems now? I am sure that thinking doesn't go far when the mashed potatoes are flying! HaHa. Good luck with your scans in December, that's when we have our next ones too. Do you think it's too soon to get nervous? Well Ladies, it's been great to catch-up, but I have a mountain of laundry with my name on it.... Take care and God Bless you for following Michaela! I'll be thinking of you both!

What a big girl you are! I'm so proud of you for doing so well for the eye doctor. Now that they know what is going on with your beautiful eyes, they can keep a watch on them and take good care of you.
So you think you are a guppy? My boys do too. They can't seem to grasp that when water is deeper than your head, and you can't swim, it's not a good thing. You be careful, little one, but most of all, have a great time in the pool.

I am so glad that the scans were clean. That's great news. I'll be thinking of you on the 20th regarding your eye doctor visit. We've been there. It's really easy to get to, Mom. You can see the building from the treatment room. It's a short walk from clinic. E-mail me for directions. We go to clinic on Monday for vincristine and to begin the next steroid pulse. Next week should be emotionally fun! You take care, little one. You do need to try and eat for Mommy. Just a few bites would make her happy.

Hey Ashley, how are you doing? I hope you all are enjoying your summer!!! Did I ever tell you we found some bunnies in our backyard recently. Actually, our dog did - the kids were in the pool and she was barking like crazy under the pool deck. Finally when we checked there was a bunny nest with a baby bunny in it. Then after more looking through it we found 2 more. So since I have 3 kids and there was 3 bunnies, they each named one. We left lettuce and water and carrots out there but it was never touched so we dont think the mom came back. About 2 days later we took them in to feed them and we had them a week, feeding them kitten milk from a kitten bottle or dropper. They were SO cute! They called them Jean, Robin and Nibbles. My son Gooch called his Jean, named after Jean Smart in XMen. They opened their eyes while we had them and by the end of the week we had them they were running all over, more running than hopping. My husband was convinced they were going to grow up and bite our fingers off, so we turned them over to a Childrens Museum that is a wildlife rehab center near us. I hope they are being taken care of, if they werent already released. I know the kids loved them and they really were cute!! That was our thrill for the summer – hope you are enjoying yours!

Hey there Miss Ashley:)
Hi baby, we just wanted to stop in and let you know we will be praying VERY hard for your scans to be clean and NED....stay away, nasty NB!!
Julie, I remember Cally doing the same thing, with the running into walls, etc. I was really starting to worry about his eye sight! But, I think it's just that their little legs are taking them a hundred times faster around the place than their little brains are keeping up with....I pray that this is the case with Ash too.
Ashley, it looks like you were having so much fun at Grandma's in the pool! We spend a lot of time in our splash pool too, especially this summer, it has been so very hot. Now honey, there can't be any more throwing things at the Mama, she loves you very much and it's not nice to hurt the ones we love:) hee hee Although, I will say, you have every right to be feeling angry after all you have gone through....and it's hard to express your anger appropriately when you are just a cute, little old two year old....once you can use your 'words' more, maybe you could let up on the tossing....yes?? For Mama's sake, Ashley:)
You all take care and we will keep you in our prayers....big hugs and lots of luck,

Tracey,Steve, Quinn and Cally xoxo

What a beauty you are. I love the picture of you in your sweet dress. Mom says you have some boo-boos from running into doors and such. Be careful, baby.
Mom, I would ask the Doctor, but it may just be awkward balance of a being a little fellow. I know Cameron ran into stuff all the time at the age of two. He'd hit the ground and bounce right back up like Tiger. Didn't seem to hurt him, but he looked rough.

Hi Ashley,
I just came across your website. You are a beautiful girl! You keep fighting hard and I am praying super hard for everything to be a-OK. My special buddy, John Russell, had stage IV Nblast and fought just like you- with such bravery and wisdom! Keep climbing that mountain and fight, fight, fight those Nblast bugs away! Thinking of you!

God Bless,

Hello My name is Jenna, Ashley is a real Cutie! I will keep her in my prayers that the cancer is in remission.
I have had alot of experience with chronic pain 24/7 and in and out of the hospital. I have a rare severe bone disease, and I have had many operations. My webpage is: http://www.matmice.com/home/fighterandchampion
I have many friends who are battleing cancer, have passed away from cancer and have survived cancer. I am prone to skin cancer because of my bone disease. My dad has had cancer three times, and is still a surviver and my hero!

Ashley and Julie,
I'm praying for complete remission too! Sounds like you have your plan all worked out, so now you know where you go from here. I'm glad to see that your Grandparents are coming down. I bet you are excited about that. You continue to do well, little one. I will check in on you later.

Hi Ashley & Julie,
I saw your post on the NB support group (sorry, I cant give any advice) and noticed you are
from Tennessee, so I had to write & say "hi" from a fellow Tennessean. My son Josh
(age 10) had a stem cell transplant and radiation at VCH and we spent many months
in Nashville. We are from Knoxville but we actually miss Nashville now.
Ashley, YOU GO GIRL!! You are a beautiful little girl. We are rooting for you!

Hey Ashley,
I am sorry you did not get to make it to the zoo. Hopefully you will be able to do that soon. How exciting that your beautiful hair is coming back in. You must enjoy looking in the mirror. I hope spring is coming your way soon. Some days it is like summer down here--tomorrow it will be in the 80's.

Hey Ashley,

I hope you had a fun time at the zoo. I wish that our weather here in NC was nice enough to enjoy the outdoors this weekend, but it rained a lot. I'm happy to hear that you are having fun outdoors. That must mean you are feeling good--that makes everyone happy. Hope you have a great week!

I just found your page so I wanted to say hi. My grand-daughter had the same type cancer except hers was stage IV and she was 1 year and 11 days when it was found. The great news is she is now 8 years old and has been CANCER FREE for almost 7 years. Hang in there Ashley and never give up. You can beat this terrible monster. You are in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless you and your family. HUGS

Ashley,
Hello there sweetie! I was so glad to see where you and your Mommy signed Caleb's guestbook. It made him very happy, so I wanted to brighten your day a little, too. I'm very thankful that the scans show no growth. You keep fighting little one. Know that I am thinking of you. Hey, we are practically neighbors! We also go to Vanderbilt!

Don't you wish children were born with a window to see inside them, or a magic wand to make it all better. The science of medicine, I wish it was the history of medicine so they would know exactly how to treat and it would work for all. God bless.
