Rutherford hospital, Inc. was established in 1927 through a contribution from the Commonwealth Fund of New York City. It began as a 37 bed, private, not–for–profit hospital with the mission to operate “for the welfare of mankind.” In 1982, the hospital was renamed Middle Tennessee Medical Center (MTMC).
