Laura's Page

September 15, 1984 - February 19, 2007

"whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy. For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything."

James 1:2-4

Today is the bittersweet 6th anniversary of Laura's passing. What a great legacy of living life to its fullest and of loving memories she left for us.

Merilee and I will be with Kate today, as we try to be every year at this time. We are in L.A. at Kate's home with her husband Omar, son Jack (5 on Feb 29th, or so) and daughter Loralei (1 1/2), who is Laura's namesake. Loralei is very much like Laura with a bright smile, inquisitive mind and loving attitude toward all. And she is learning to give nice hugs as well! Laura would be proud!

While we have learned to deal with the loss, we still dearly miss Laura and continue to keep her in our thoughts and prayers and often remind ourselves and each other of what a wonderful daughter, sister and friend she was. Her memory is especially alive each fall when we hold our annual "Laura J Fall Fest" Celebration of Life in her honor on a Saturday close to her birthday, September 15th. We don't have the date selected for this year's 7th celebration yet, but if we don't have you on our invite list please just drop us an email to one of the addresses below and we will add your name.

Next year we will probably be in Washington D.C. for this February time of remembrance because Kate recently received her orders transferring her to a post at the Pentagon beginning in a few months. One of our favorite family outings was to a Memorial Day concert on the Capital lawn, and we have a very nice picture of Laura with the rest of us, taken by her good Sweet Briar friend Lieschen Cluis (forgive my probable mis-spelling Lieschen!), that I will try to post on this site, and that Kate is planning to display in her new home in the D.C. area.

And in our newly remodeled home in Toledo Merilee and I also have many photos and items to keep Laura's memory alive along with just plain-old good times we had with her at our home and in the surrounding area.

Please stay in touch as we continue to keep Laura in our hearts and memories!

As Laura would say: "Go team!"

Doug and Merilee
