My condolences. I loved her very much and missed her terribly when she moved west. I'm so sorry I didn't see her in the years before she passed away. I look forward to seeing her and her daughter in Heaven.

Karen passed this morning, she is free. Thank you all for your love and prayers throughout Kaitlyn's illness and after Karen's accident. They are together again.

She was a great person, sister, and mother who will be greatly missed. We all have wonderful memories of her smile, laugh, sense of humor, compassion, love, dedication... the list goes on and on.

God bless you all for your thoughts and prayers for her over the years.

Thank you Jack. It's not an easy journey for you or Karen and I'm sure it sometimes feels futile to update and simply tell us there has been no change. Your sister is well loved by many people - her warmth and loving nature was contagious and those of us who caught her bug will never forget who she was and continue to pray for who she is. Please give her butterfly kisses from her Canadian friends Owen and Linda.

Chemoangels is 10 years old this year! You and I were among the first 100 volunteer Angels to join, and I know you got so much joy in giving back to those experiencing the hurt you had gone through. So do I, Karen. Hope to see some news about how you're doing this Fall next time I visit. You are loved and remembered by so many!

Karen, I check in still as often as I can. My life has changed so much since the last time we were able to talk. I am married now and have another little girl. Her name is Gabriella. She is so much like "my Kaitlyn" that it amazes me sometimes. I know our Kaitlyns are both in Heaven together smiling down on their mommies. You have been in my thoughts and prayers all these years and will continue to be. Love-

Thank you Jack.... Your sister and her little girl inspired many of us - so much so that 8 years later I still find myself thinking of her, praying for her and checking regularly to see if there is any news. I never had the privilege of meeting her in person, but she touched my heart deeply. I will never look at another butterfly without thinking of her and Kaitlyn.

She may not remember us, but please tell her that Linda & Owen send their love.

Hi, Karen. I had a dream about you last night. I don't often remember my dreams, but in this one you had improved so much that you were getting ready to leave where you're staying now and go home. I hope it was a precursor of what is to come and that it happens soon. I will be in Philadelphia tomorrow and Tuesday, and if things go my way I will be moving to Harrisburg next year. If that happens, I will try to come visit you soon after, and if not, I will visit you in the spring. I know I am not the only one who remembers you and Kaitlyn, and you both have touched thousands of people. I hope and pray you fully recover soon.

Karen, I do hope that someone will read this to you because I want you to know that Kaitlyn is still loved and remembered. Today the barbie house and furniture that Kaitlyn gave to Claire went to another little girl with cancer. Claire has outgrown barbies but would not just give away a gift from her birthday angel and so we found a little girl with cancer who needed a house and when she outgrows it her mom has promised that it will go to another cancer girl. So Kaitlyn's love and legacy lives on. You remain in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Lynne

Hi Karen,
I remember about 7 years ago, when I first joined Chemoangels. You came on board about the same time and your enthusiasm was just infectious! Although we were both heartbroken to have lost our young daughters; Katie and Kaitlyn... somehow we found it in our hearts to try and give back hope to others who might win the battle. For that reason, you are in my thoughts so often, Karen, and I wish you so much goodness and pray for improved health for you. Your big smile in the picture here just always lifts my heart. Hope for another update soon, and would love to know what is going on there with you! I'll check back later on. Take care my friend~

I've been thinking about you and Kaitlyn so much lately and all though years have passed I still miss you both terribly. I sill talk about all the good times we've had and how CRAZY me and Kaitlyn were. You were like a second Mom to me and I will never forget. I will see you soon! I love you and stay strong!

Hi Karen,
Just want you to know that you're still in my thoughts, heart, and prayers. Owen was remembering Kaitlyn the other day - no she wasn't in his dreams having pizza with him and God this time, but he was simply remembering a friend who has gone on to a better place.
I miss you.

Hi Karen, you were on my mind this morning so I thought I would come by your site to say hello and send a hug your way. It's supposed to be a beautiful day here in Michigan today but the cloudy sky makes me wonder if we'll have more rain instead. I don't mind the rain so much because my lawn is getting greener each day and the tulips in my backyard are starting to bloom. I hope beauty is blooming around you too.

Well, Karen it has been about 5 years since that day we talked. March 24 will be 5 years since my baby Kaitlyn went to Heaven to join your Kaitlyn. I think of you often and of that one conversation we had when you called me at the hospital during one of Kaitlyn's last visits there. You were such a great encouragement to me during that time in my life. My life has changed a lot since then although not a day goes by that I don't think of my Kaitlyn and wish she were here. Unfortunately life does go on. I am engaged now! To a wonderful man, who the only regret I have is I met him to late for Kaitlyn to know him and him to know her. We bought a house in May 2006. Just know that I haven't forgotten you or our girls and I know they are both smiling down on us from Heaven.

Hi, Karen!
It was nice to see you again the other day. It has been quite a long time since I saw you last - before you moved to Rolling Fields. You are in a nice place. It's awesome to see animals roaming around the halls! I'm thinking that you remembered me - the housekeeper (sorry, I forgot her name) seemed to think so. And after you stopped staring at me, I think you finally noticed Henry. I'll try to bring him back for a longer visit some time soon.
I'm impressed by all the Christmas cards you have, but not surprized - everyone always did love you! I hope that the new doctor has some ideas to get you communicating - I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Hi!
It's been awhile since I wrote, but that doesn't mean I've forgotten you! Guess what? I had a baby!! His name is Henry, and he is 3 months old. He has already been to UCLA for hernia surgery, but he looks as good as new -just faint scars and it's only been 2 weeks! We also just moved back to MT, but we're not sure if we'll stay. It depends on whether or not we can manage on a small salary but more importantly, lousy benefits. I hope I can make it out to see you when we go to PA - maybe in the summer. I'm sure you'd love to see little Henry and I'd love for him to meet you! Take care and keep working. Love

Karen, I was given your page within the guestbook by Sylvia Gorin and deeply touched with memories of your smiling face. What beautiful pictures on your page of Kaitlyn. I can't begin to tell you that I miss all the fun times we had together at 1577 Beacon Street in Brookline. One that stands out was the shrine that we use to build in the office. How about all the laughs with Tracy and the trip to Riverside in Agawam. Your life is as precious as the gift God gave to this world and to all of us with your presence. I know that life has had it's ups and downs for you, specially downs! Hang in there. God and Kaitlyn are with you and watching over you. I think of you often and will continue to pray for you. I was just remembering when someone back at Gracedale dressed up like that lady from Wendy's and carried a sign reading, "Where's the beef?". For some reason, we thought that was funny. Yeah, it was funny! Of course, that was before all those "I love the 80s" shows that remind everyone of such things.

Hello Karen, Just wanted to stop by here and see how things are going. I still think about you every single day. And I say a prayer for you every night before I go to bed. Even though I'm not there, you are still and always will be my boogaloo.

I wish I could continue to stay there by your side. You know, if life was a little different, I probably still would. Things are getting alot better for me and I know you'd be so proud of me. So far I've graduated and found the best job I ever had. I work with some of the best people. And I finally love what I do. (It's not even like work to me!)

Everything I discovered about you and about myself, about life with you and around you...I carry with me everwhere I go in some way or another. Thank you for being part of my life. A very significant and special part of my life that I hold dear in the deepest parts of my heart.

I know you see Kaitlyn around you. Which makes sense why you haven't haven't come back to us yet. Can't say I blame you. She is truely an angel...Just like her Momma.

Well, you take care of yourself sweetheart. And I will continue to keep checking up on you. And always remember, it's never too late for a miracle.

I love you Karen

Hi Karen,
We are sending you great big butterfly kisses and all the
love we can squeeze through the computer. I know it's been
too long since I wrote to you, but you've been in my
thoughts daily and I do check your sites often. I'm usually
at a loss for words so don't sign in to let you know I've
been visiting.....guess I should smarten up huh?

Jack says he'll read our messages to you.... I know you
love a good laugh so here's a new joke from Owen's doctor.

"What did the stomach say to the burp?
If you're really quiet I'll let you out the back door."

Did you like it? I'll look for some better ones, if you
promise to give Jack a smile when he tells them to you.

We're all doing OK. Owen had some extensive surgery done
on his legs and feet so is in the process of learning to
walk again. Basically we're just trying to fix the damage
caused by the radiation side-effects.

I've gotta go, but I promise I won't wait so long before I
write again.

We love you,

Karen,

I have been seeing many butterflies lately. Miss Kaitlin is certainly doing a lot of fluttering around these days. I think of her so often, especially when I see a butterfly.

Missing you and sending my love your way.
love, wendy

Though I know that you are sleepin'
there's somethin' I must say
Though this rocky road may wind
Our love will find the way
Many miles have come between us
And the days, they come and go
Still with all we feel
It never really shows
Though the time apart seems endless
All my thoughts remain with you
I believe that one day
We'll make our dreams come true
Our goodbyes go on forever
And with all that we may say
Till tomorrow comes
I'll dream of yesterday

Hi Karen and Patrick,
I came to know you over two years ago when you were a Chemo Angel for my neighbor. I saw all the many talents you have through his gifts he received which put the biggest smile on his face. I also heard of your accident and kept informed through Patrick's website, which is absolutely amazing. The both of you have spirits that are and always will be timeless. The love you two have for each other and the love you pour out to those around you is breathtaking. My prayers will be with you always.

I'm not the hero who will always save the day.
Don't always wear the white hat, don't always know the way.
I may not even be the dream you wanted to come true,
But I'll always be the man in love with you.
I'm not the key that opens every door.
I don't have the power to give you all you want and more,
But when you're needin' somethin' special you can hold on to,
I'll always be the man in love with you.
I never could work miracles.
There may be others who can do what I can't do,
But no one else can be as good as me at lovin' you.
So when the world won't turn the way you wish it would,
And the dreams you have don't come alive as often as they should,
Remember that there's someone there whose heart is always true.
I'll always be the man in love with you.
Remember that there's someone there whose heart is always true,
Someone there to help you make it through.
I'll always be the man in love with you.

Happy Holiday! I was just thinking about the Christmas when I worked with Karen. I had given her an ornament with an angel on it. We both left the office, and, when we came back, the ornament was gone! Well, anyone who knows Karen knows that this was a very big deal. I mean, how could someone steal it! (and really, how could someone, when the door was locked!). After ranting and raving for awhile, we went back to work. Of course, we later discoverd the ornament hidden under the computer desk, after which we felt kind of dumb. But at least there weren't any thieves!
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas full of angels (some on the decorations). I am so happy to hear that you are trying to talk! I'm sure your talking will be the best present you could give Patrick!

I love these verses;

Love is patient; Love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on it's own way; it is not irretable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrong; but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
1 Corinthians 13:4

So Faith, Hope and Love, abide by these three. But the greatest is Love.

Hi Karen & Patrick, I wrote a letter through the nursing home website, but just thought I'd check in here as well. I have been watching Karen thru her website for a long while. I'm so proud of her for her obvious fight, and of you for your absolute devotion to her. Most people would crumble under such circumstances, but you have been amazing Patrick. Dear Karen,
It's getting colder now, winter is here. We've had some snow already but nothing to get worried about...Yet. Christmas will be here soon and then New Years, and shortly after that will be two years I've waited for you to come home from work. I still have your voice on the answering machine telling me not to worry, you'll be home soon. From another day though. I listen to it every now and then when I miss you the most.
I can still feel you with me where ever I go, so I know you haven't given up yet. And neither have I. I'm not able to be there as much anymore but that doesn't mean my heart isn't there with you every day. I still love you. And I am still waiting for you.

Patrick, What you wrote about just trusting God sounds so right!!! Another thought that I have had to ponder is that Yeah God could stop all the bad but howw ould we learn just as how would our kids learn if we never let them "fall". I can't believe God causes the bad things that happen and in hand with that I don't think God MAKES the good things happen. It is called free will...I can't think God would cause my Kaitlyn and Karen's to suffer through so much and die, but save some other children. God allows it to happen but I can't believe he causes it. I can't believe God would cause such a wonderful person like Karen to go through more pain. I know He is always there though!

I think feeling hopeless and exhausted are normal feelings for the path that you are on. So is hope and excitement and renewed strength. Follow the path that your heart tells you to take. Hi, Karen, sorry I haven't written in awhile. We are just starting school again, so it's kind of busy preparing for all the kids. It sure sounds like you're in a wonderful place. Are these fish carp (like at the Spillway) or koi? My parents told me that there was so much water at the Spillway that there wasn't any spillway at all-the fish could just swim back and forth! Doesn't that just take all the fun away! Well, keep on smiling and working hard. I'm so glad to hear positive things! Love ya!

My sister, Laurie, the one who lived in North Carolina asks about you often. I'm so glad that I received your website so I can keep up on what has been happening. I sure hope that the move to your new place will bring peace and comfort and a great recovery.

I miss seeing your smiling face (in person, of course).

All my love

Hello! I just wanted to tell you that where you are moving to is pretty close to where I live. I am like 2 small towns northeast of there. You could move to Edinboro and commute to work and Karen from there. I don't know how far away you work but Edinboro is in the middle between the 2. Let me know when you get in and are ready for visitors.

Hi, Karen! How are things going? It looks like we are going to make it back to PA this summer after all, so I hope you are ready for a visitor! Patrick, We were at Relay for Life last night and the theme was butterflies. I did not know but there is a Native American saying that if you wisper your wishes to a butterfly and then release it it will take your wish to the great spirit and he will grant the wish in gratitude for setting the butterfly free. Then the announcer set free some monarchs and as one flew overhead Claire said "Look there's Kaitlyn, hi Kaitlyn" Thought this might bring a smile. Lynne

The weather up here has been beautiful the past few days. I take Karen outside as much as I can. She seems to like to birds that fly around. They're always singing and she's always turning her head around to find them. She still smiles when I walk in the room and every now and then she'll try to exercise her vocal cords.
Her spirit is surprisingly strong, I don't think she's given up yet and hopefully this spring weather well help her along like she did last spring.
I'm still with her every day and I fall in love with her everytime I see her and I still feel very lucky to have her.
I love you Karen

These times are troubled and these times are good
And they're always gonna be,
they rise and they fall
We take 'em all the way that we should
Together you and me forsaking them all
Deep in the night and by the light of day
It always looks the same,
true love always does
And here by your side,
or a million miles away
Nothin's ever gonna change the way that I feel,
The way it is, is the way that it was

When I said I do,
I meant that I will 'til the end of all time
Be faithful and true, devoted to you
That's what I had in mind when I said I do

Well this old world keeps changin',
and the world stays the same
For all who came before,
and it goes hand and hand
Only you and I can undo all that we became
That makes us so much more,
than a woman and a man
And after everything that comes and goes around
Has only passed us by,
here alone in our dreams
I know there's a lonely heart in every lost and found
But forever you and I will be the ones
Who found out what forever means

When I said I do,
I meant that I will 'til the end of all time
Be faithful and true, devoted to you
That's what I had in mind when I said I do

Truer than true,
you know that I'll always be there for you
That's what I had in mind,
that's what I had in mind,
When I said I do.

Hey Karen & Patrick. Sending you a BIG HELLO from the Lehigh Valley. I think of you often & glad to keep up with the progress through the website/guestbook entries these days. Life here is not as "peachy" as I don't get to talk to you every other day Karen. People from Gracedale & St Luke's, as well as pt's families (people who will never forget you for the love & compassion you showed to them or their loved ones in their time of need) have/cont to ask @ you. I met up with Mrs. Jean Fisk's family the other day(Mrs Fisk was a patient at Phoebe Richlandtown). Mrs Fisks daughter Janelle asked @ you & took the words out of my mouth when she said you are one of the most special people she ever met. We're all praying for you.

Karen gave me a scare last week. It looked like she wasn't getting any better and there was talk about moving her away to Meadville, dropping her from therapy and I was crushed.
So I talked to her about everything, about what was going on and I hope it was that that seemed to motivate her this week. This has pretty good week for Karen. Wednesday, she answered almost every question asked to her with a responded up or down kick. I got smiles when I congradulated her and she kept on going when therapy was done as we went to her room. She stayed awake til 9:00pm and we talked, (Or I talked) about everything and she listen the whole time before she fell asleep.
I am very proud of her. My hope is still strong as well as my faith in God and Karen. I believe in her, and believe God has his arm around her. This is Karen's battle, it may not be fair, but she has to fight and struggle...again.
Well, that's all I have for now.
Please keep Karen in yur prayers. It works.

My Dearest Karen,
Damn girl this is taking a long time. How much longer you think you might be? I mean, I'm not doing anything for the next 50 to infinity years. And if you want, as soon as you're done we could go for a ride and get something to eat.
They don't have a Sonic up here (Boy are the missing out!)
The closest one is in Ohio, but your favorite one is in Tulsa. They donate money to Childhood Cancer programs.
I hope you remember all of that. This time we won't bring the cats. Remember when they crapped all over the car on our trip to Oklahoma? Oh my God that was a nightmare. Poor Boots crapped all over herself and we had to clean her with bottled water. You always laugh when I tell that story.
Everyone still loves you and hoping and praying for you.
Especially me sweetheart. We were right. God had a hand in bringing us together. I can't find no other reason for it.
You're my strength, you're my anchor, you're my life.
When things go wrong I think of you and everything is put in perspective.
And I have to add one more thing.
Who ever said,"God never gives you more than you can handle" is so full of crap.
You've had enough. You deserve a break. For all you've done and all you've been thru and for the person you are.
I love you honey

Seems like years since I last had a hug
and having your coffee ready in your mug

How many pens have I gone thru
writing these things for you.
Every word you inspired a flame
a beautiful song and it starts with your name
The lonely nights I fail to sleep
the sleepless nights I lay and weep
Days go by like a midnight train
To get you back to talking again
Damn this thing called TBI!

Often I look up and ask Why?
Karen and others like her
Put your hand on her now..sir
But, this journey isn't over. I can see
you coming back home with me

I LOVES MY BOOOOGAGLOOOOO!!!!!!

Lynn,
We got your package a few days before Christmas. I showed it to her and she just stared at it. Not really sure if reconizes it or not. But I did tell her the history behind it. I played it for her and I got the impression she liked it.
Thank you so much. Hope you and the Bagel Gang had a great Christmas!!!

Merry Christmas! Yes, I'm a little late. My parents came out to Ca. and we had to get Grace and Timothy's friend came as well. We finally had a full house, and it was really nice. My mom asked when I'm coming home again, and I really need to, so I can visit you!! I hope you and Patrick have enjoyed the holidays and are looking forward to a wonderful new year. I miss you!
Love ya!

Have you seen the most beautiful woman in the world?
With a smile as warm as the first day of Spring when the grass is as green as her eyes when they sparkle?
You would know her by the love she gives from a heart so big you could fit all of the love, all of the tenderness and compassion and still have enough room for a little fire to ignite her golden spirit.
I love you Karen

Dear Karen and Patrick,
It was great to see you two at Thanksgiving! I am thinking about you both -- and very thankful that Karen is in good hands: Patrick, Jack, Michelle.... How is that snowman that Patrick built outside the window doing? Well I am planning to visit again between Christmas and New Year's. I'll be seeing you then.

Hello! I haven't written lately 'cause I've been out of town. Timothy and I went to a family reunion in Georgia. He had to meet tons of "kin" (as they say down south). There must have been more than 50 relatives, and he knew exactly 6, not including me. It was great to see my grandfather and cousins again. So, how are things going up in Erie? I hope that you continue to make great progress. I liked the new pictures, especially with the kitty. Patrick is sure taking good care of you, isn't he? Well, keep up the good work and I'll keep you in my thoughts. Have a great day! Love ya!

Hi! Glad to hear that you're making some progress. Keep it up! We just got back from visiting my stepdaughter in MT. She's going to be some sort of devil princess - whatever that is for Halloween. I think she'll enjoy the princess part. We got an upgrade at our hotel, and our room came with two big fluffy bathrobes. She enjoyed strutting around the pool with hers on and feeling "special". She would have had a blast with Kaitlyn - especially swimming! We got to see her at a soccer game, which was great, since we usually can't do stuff like that. Hopefully, we'll get to take her back to PA in the summer, and then I can finally visit you!!
Speaking of Halloween, remember when we drew the picture of tombstones and wrote poems on them about all the old folks that passed away waiting for their hearing aids?? I think I still have that somewhere. Since Patrick is such a good poet, maybe you can help him compose some crazy poems for Halloween.
Well, you keep up the good work. Tell Patrick "thanks" for keeping all of us who are far away informed of your progress. Love ya!

Hello Karen, Happy Autumn to you. I hope you get to enjoy the beautiful colors being shown to us this season. I really like the Butterfly Costume idea best. It seems to be a great tribute as well as being cute! Though we've never met, I can feel the joy of your achievements through Patrick's flowing comments. I just wish all the very best for your continued improvement. You are such an inspiration to many folks. Patrick, keep your head up and keep the positive attitude. Such great love exists between you, and that makes Karen try hard. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!!

Another joke for you, a little long, but cute.....

A couple had two little boys, ages 8 and 10, who were excessively mischievous. They were always getting into trouble and their parents knew that, if any mischief occurred in their town, their sons were probably
involved.

The boys' mother heard that a clergyman in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The clergyman agreed, but asked to see them individually. So the mother sent her 8-year-old first, in the morning, with the older boy to see the
clergyman in the afternoon.

The clergyman, a huge man with a booming voice, sat the younger boy down and asked him sternly, "Where is God?". The boy's mouth dropped open, but he made no response, sitting there with his mouth hanging open, wide-eyed.
So the clergyman repeated the question in an even sterner tone, "Where is God!!?" Again the boy made no attempt to answer. So the clergyman raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy's face and bellowed, "WHERE
IS GOD!?"

The boy screamed and bolted from the room, ran directly home and dove into his closet, slamming the door behind him. When his older brother found him in the closet, he asked, "What happened?"

The younger brother, gasping for breath, replied "We are in BIG trouble this time, dude. God is missing - and they think WE did it!"

Hugs & kisses,

Linda

Hi Guys,
Karen - I think in honor of your laughter (and because we both know how laughter is a healer) it's time to start a joke fest in your guestbook. Let's get some fun and positive thoughts flowing your way.......

I think the first joke should be the funniest one in the world........ Hey - I happen to have it here right in front of me!! Can you believe that a study was done and a year later this was named the world's funniest joke:

"A couple of New Jersey hunters are out in the woods when one of them falls to the ground. He doesn't seem to be breathing, his eyes are rolled back in his head.
The other guy whips out his cell phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps to the operator: "My friend is dead. What can I do?"
The operator, in a calm, soothing voice says: "Just take it easy. I can help. First, let's make sure he's really dead."
There is a silence, than a shot is heard. The guy's voice comes back on the line. He says: "OK, now what?""

I'm sure Patrick's next entry will be - "We heard Karen GROAN really loudly today"

I'm putting out a challenge to all you Karen fans, let's see if you can come up with something that will make her giggle.

Patrick & Karen - hugs and kisses to you both,

Linda

I just wanted to thank "the friend" for his/her comments. It is true that this page is read to check on KAREN'S progress, not to read untrue slanderous rants. I am happy when I read that Karen is making strides forward but I do wish I did not have to sift through the writer's personal sagas to find it. Enough said, I will not help turn this page into something that it should have never become.

William (Patrick), I just wanted to let you know that Karen is thought of often and the website is checked frequently. "Mr. Butthead" as you refer to him as, doesn't have any of Karen's personal things. He does have a few of his daughters' things (including her computer which both her parents purchased for her - not you) that weren't locked up in storage in Oklahoma. I don't think people enjoy reading your personal issues on Karens' website. It won't get you more sympathy, phone cards, hand outs, etc.

Hi Karen,
Sorry I didn't sign in yesterday - I know it was an important day. I did get to Kaitlyn's page to send her some butterfly kisses, but then tangled with a computer virus and spent the rest of the day trying to figure things out. Fortunately I think I managed to avoid infection.

PATRICK and CYNDI - check your computers. I got an e-mail from each of you, but fortunately thought twice before opening the attachments. Couldn't figure out why you 2 would pick that day - of all days - to send me some adult humor. Anyone receiving an e-mail message with only an attachment and no text, DELETE it - even if you know who it's from.

Anyway Karen - I thought about you and Kaitlyn all day. I know there's going to be a special spot for the two of you when you meet again - there's no way God would ask you to travel this journey unless He had a real good reason.

Sending you love, hugs and the sweetest butterfly kisses,

Here is a poem me and my friend wrote last year in 7th grade

Shy, you

Sweet and shy you walk by
and catch my eye.
Then you look back and your smile
melts my heart away.
Your eyes burn holes in my eyes
As you look at me dead stright in
the eye
Your laugh puts me at peace as
i imagine your strong arms
cormfort me in front of a warm
fire
As we fall into step your look
tells me you love me

Right now you are lying in a bed thinkging only god knows what. I hope you are thinkging happy thoughts right now. And maybe someday will slowly wake up from this coma. If not you will always be in my heart. I love you with all my heart. I will never ever forget you as long as I live.

Never

Never say I love you,
If you don't even care.
Never talk about your feelings,
If their not really there.
Never hold my hand,
If your going to break my heart.
Never say your going to,
If you don't plan to start.
Never look into my eyes,
If all you deo is lie.
Never say hello,
If you really mean good- bye.
If you really mean forever,
Then say I'll try.
But don't say forever because
forever makes me cry.

On a cold March night
Deep in an Ozark valley.
The sky was pitch
Fog rolled over the highway.
Lonely road
Not a red taillight.
Pulled the Ram over
And looked outside.
Song of a distant midnight train.
Like his guitar,
Singing in the rain.

A young man in a Veteran’s suit
Appeared before my eyes.
Wearing shiny patrol boots
And a smell of 1975.
He said, Son it’s good to see you.
I know you’re worried and scared.
But if you listen close enough,
You will hear how much God cares.
And your children love you.
They will be just fine.
So take care of her and love her Son
Just like I did mine.

Hi Karen! I am a Chemo Angel and read the brief message about your wonderful laugh. Anyone who tries as hard as you do will certainly keep improving. I am thinking of you down here in sweaty, humid Houston. They should have named this town "Drippy" If I had been wise years ago, I would have invested in the antipersperant companies.

We are all so very proud of you!

Karen,
This is Donnell, Kaitlyn's mommy(the other Kaitlyn that is)...I was looking through all my Kaitlyn's old guestbook entries and I came upon all the wonderful messages and words of encouragement you always had.And then I stated to think about the one time you called me while we were at the hospital for one of Kaitlyn's treatments just before your accident.I remember what a wonderful conversation we had and how Kaitlyn would not let us ignore her that she had to be heard in that conversation too.Do you remember that? How she yelled and yelled till she was acknowledged. We talked about how special our two little girls are to us, must be the name it is a good name.I know our two little angels are up there together causing all sorts of a rukus.I am so glad to see you are improving.I hope sometime soon we can have another great talk over the phone! Karen, I don't know if you remember me, but I was Michele's student a little while ago. Just wanted to let you know I was thinking about you. I heard from Michele and from this web site how great you're doing! Laughing, trying to eat licorice, trying to reach for things, etc. I was astonished! Karen, I can't wait to find out what your first words are!

I can't believe your air conditioner has just recently been repaired. How on earth did you survive in that sweat box all this time?!

Patrick, I just have to tell you how much I LOVED the poem you wrote on June 26. It was sooo beautiful and sooo... Karen! I am so glad I got to know you two, if only a little bit. Take care!

Laughing, huh? I'm glad to hear about the progress. I've been off on vacation for the past couple of weeks, and it sure is nice to hear good news! All my memories of working with you are laughing and laughing and then laughing some more. And we got paid for that?! I have yet to find another co-worker who could have as much fun at work. I remember being in a room with some co-workers in Montana, laughing and having a good time, and our supervisor came in and was not amused. I guess she didn't want us to have too much fun there, can you believe that? Anyway, you keep up the good work. I was really hoping to see you this summer, but unfortunately our plans were changed. I can always send my parents to visit-if they're not too busy visiting the SPILLWAY!
Take care and keep fighting. Love ya!

Patrick, Conner has a joke for Karen. Why did the chicken cross the playground? To get to the other slide!!!! Please tell Karen that Claire wore the Cherry shirt Karen painted the other day. Years ago Karen painted a pair of tennis shoes for Claire to match mine and made her a shirt to match. The shoes no longer fit, they are worn by various stuffed animals, but she still wears the shirt. Lynne

Dearest Karen and Patrick,

You have been a very busy young lady. Working so hard and laughing at Patrick and his singing. We are so very glad that you are making such wonderful progress. You are an inspiration to so many people. God, truly has something very special in mind for you. The journey you are traveling is long and hard, but the rewards will be fulfilling... Patrick, your poetry is beautiful. Think about having it published one day. YOU are a remarkable young man. Not every young person would continue to fight the battle, pick up all your belongings and move across many states to walk this journey. May God continue to bring many victories of recovery your way and may the hope and faith that God continues to provide to you bring peace in your hearts.

We miss you terribly. We love your long hair, Karen. YOU LOOK GREAT!!!!

All our love, Wendy and Ashley

Dear Karen and Patrick,
I was great to see you both when I visited back in June. Sitting out there in the back with you two and Mom and Nancy on such a beautiful day was very nice. I see you have had to deal with the heat too. We have been staying inside as much as possible too. I'll be back in early August. In the meantime, I will be checking for Patrick's updates on Karen's progress. I'm waiting for that breakthrough that could happen at any time. Your dedication and determination (both of you) is amazing. It's going to pay off.

Hi Karen and Patrick,
I found {Angel} Kaitlyn's web page while surfing the net and saw the link to this page. I'm not clear on what the whole story is, from what I understand, Kaitlyn suffered from a brain tumor and Karen, you must have been in a terrible car accident. (sigh) More tragedy than a person should have to bear in a lifetime. I will be praying for your comfort and a speedy recovery. God's blessings to you all.

Thank you for the pic Lynn, we got it today!
I got another poem . I don't know what's gotten into me lately but here it goes

MY DAY

Eight O' Clock wake up
you're not here
Breeze thru the curtains
your smell fills the air
Rush to get dressed
don't want to be late
Longest light in Erie
Smiling, you look great
New old friends wheel by
"How is she today?"
They said a prayer for you today
in Jesus' name
Never enough time
time for the grind
Day turns to night
you're running thru my mind
Red truck blurs
to get back to you
Sleeping like a baby
I loves you too
Go home real late
to get up again at eight

Hey, Karen, it's great to hear that you're making some movements. Maybe you can start to dance to KC and the Sunshine band (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) and the "do a little dance, make a little love..." that you entertained some old men with at Gracedale a few years ago. Sounds like you have a really great speech therapist-but we know we are a great group of people! I know Michelle will just be thrilled when you start talking-and don't stop!

NURSING HOME JOKE;

There's 3 old men sitting in a Nursing home,
The Doctor wants to test them to see what they know.
He say's to the first old man, " What's 3X3?"
The man says " 2714!!!"
"No, that's wrong". says the doctor
He askes the 2nd man, "What's 3x3"?
The man says "TUESDAY!"
Shaking his head, the Doctors say "No that's wrong"
The Doc asks the 3rd man, "What's 3X3"?
The man says, "Nine"
"YES! , that's right, how did you get the answer?"
The old man replies, "Easy, I subtracted 2714 from Tuesday"

Hello everyone.
Karen is doing pretty good. the same determination is still in her eyes. Her sleeping schedule seems to be improving. Sleeping more at night rather than the during the day. She's eating by mouth alot better as well.
Still not much vocalization, but it looks as if she could just get up from the chair and walk out the building. Oh wouldn't that be wonderful???
All of you have been so wonderful throughout this. I hope you realize just how much everyone means to me. I know it may seem like I'm not contacting everyone as much as I used to but please understand my time is getting limited now that I'm working as well as being with Karen.
If anyone has any pictures of Karen, could youplease E-Mail them to me so I can put them on this webpage. All the pics I had were stolen as well as the computer. So anything with Karen or Karen with Kaitlyn would be great. Thank You.

I miss the look of surrender in your eyes
The way your soft brown hair would fall
I miss the power of your kiss when we make love
Bur Karen most of all
I miss my friend
The one my heart and sould confided in
The one I felt the safest with
The one who knew just what to say
and to make me laugh again
And let the light back in
I miss the colors that you brought back into my life
Your golden smile, your beautiful green eyes
And I miss your gentle vioce at lonely times like now
Saying it'll be alright
I miss my friend

I miss my friend
I miss those nights
I even miss those silly fights
the making up
the morning talks
And those late afternoon walks

I miss my friend

Owen would be absolutely thrilled with your new chair, his favorite color is red and if he could he'd have everything around him that color. Glad to hear you made the move OK - I'm really hoping the change will work out better for you. If they're already proving to be more punctual with your meds that's fantastic.
You keep fighting kiddo - work hard & rest well.

Hi guys,
Without sounding flippant I want to reassure you both that maybe moving on to the new facility will be a positive thing. I had to fight long and hard to get Owen into rehab at the Children's Hospital......within a few months they decided he was not progressing and needed to be put somewhere else (his spot was needed for someone who would work harder/progress faster). We fought the decision - ended up getting a little extra time....but inevitably he had to move on. I'm happy to say that his progress was impeded more by the therapist and the school setting he had been in than by his own limitations......once he was in the new system, with a new physiotherapist, he did far better than anybody expected and it was a blessing that he had been made to move on.
Yes Patrick, it's a sad situation, but we learned too that the quality of Owen's care depended largely on our intervention. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and it sucks! As I told Karen, if it hadn't been for Bob's stubborness and willingness to push for things that weren't offered, our outcome would have been very different.
Patrick, please don't give up....keep fighting for her and the best care possible. Don't worry about stepping on toes or ruffling feathers .... it's for Karen.

We ask today for Karen who is fighting so hard to make a come-back from these disabilities she is suffering. Give her a renewed strength and purpose through You. Please grant strength to Patrick as well to keep giving her hope and love these long days. We also ask for skill and knowledge for the doctors and staff, that they will find new ways to reach her and rehabilitate her. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen

Karen, Keep trying hard to let the staff know you're ready to move on. Give them a word or two so that they can see how serious you are about your recovery. I'll keep watching your progress and praying. You have much life to live and love to give. God Bless you and Patrick.

I'm sure Karen is so proud of you now and when she goes home with you Patrick! Keep up all the hard work. Maybe soon a hug will come with your "Hi"!Also, take it from another veteran hospital guest, stay on top of the staff. I was shocked too, when they don't follow their protocol. Stay strong and our prayers are always with you. XOXOXOXOX's from your little buddy ,too!

Please give Karen a big hug and tell her it's from 3 little boys (Owen, Kris & Atley) sending their love to a special mommy.

Karen,
What is it with you and the planets???? 2 years ago on your birthday they all lined up and now, this year there's another very rare event occuring. I've cut and pasted the info to make sure I have the details right.........

"But even more amazing than the view of all our planets at once is what will happen on May 5 when Mars, Saturn and Venus will group together to perform a perfect triangle of dazzling brilliance in the western sky. This rare configuration that looks like one incredibly bright star will be visible almost everywhere on earth and will hang directly over Bethlehem, where Jesus was born. "Oddly enough," says Cosmiverse, "more than 2,000 years ago this same grouping of planets may have caught the attention of the Biblical Magi.""

I know I'll be watching the sky on the 5th - thinking of you. Lots of love,

Well Karen, you like to keep things interesting don't you!! I'm not certain what the vertebrae findings might mean, but we're just going to keep positive thoughts and pray for the best.
From all of Patrick's reports there's no doubt that Kaitlyn is already very proud of you - as proud as the rest of us. Personally I think that with the neck brace off you're going to be able to feel a certain little angel sitting on your shoulder, snuggled in to your neck, cheering you on. Can you feel those butterfly kisses as she brushes gently against your cheek?
Patrick, hold on to the positive....doctors seem intent on stressing the worst....guess it's so they can take the credit when everything works out far better than they predicted.
Hugs to you both,

Linda <pynten@shaw.ca>
