Just a quick update...
Alex is doing great! He has a new brace for his leg, therefore enabling him to get rid of the walker, at least during the day. Now he is able to run, jump, climb & play along with all of his school friends instead of just kind of being on the sidelines!! :) He told me, the day after he got it, "Mommy, I learned something today at gym class. At first I was afraid, but then my brain told me it was ok. I started to try to run, but was afraid to use my legs. But then my brain told me it was ok & to not be scared. I learned, Mommy, that I can run & play, just like the rest of my friends, and I was SOOO happy!! Now I'm just like them again!". So, as I sit here & cry, that both warms and breaks my heart. It breaks my heart that he's afraid to do/try things, though conciously, I know that's normal. And it warms my heart SOOOO much that he can do things again with his friends. I've been having such a tough time lately. Sometimes I just get so run down, and both emotionally and physically spent just THINKING of all Alex has to go through. And, of course, then somes the guilt telling me, "How DARE YOU get this way?! You don't have to go through what Alex goes through!!". I just get so conflicted on what I CAN feel, without guilt completely crippling me. And then to have to run around chasing a VERY active 2 1/2 yr.-old on top of it...OK, enough of my pity party...
Alex & I went tubing with HopeKids last week at Buck Hill here in the Twin Cities on a downright BALMY March nite! It was 65 degrees!!! We couldn't have asked for better weather! I can't even count how many times we went down, but we went straight time from 6-8:30! I don't know what it was, but the first hill/lane we went down, we ABSOLUTELY FLEW down!!! I tethered Alex & my tubes together with the pull-ropes, and since that lane worked so well the first time, we stuck with that one the entire time!! We seriously beat everyone else every single time we went down the hill!!!! There was even one certain point where I actually "caught a little air" going down each time! We were both laughing so hard each time, I'm surprised we didn't pee our pants! Afterwards (and during--we just didn't want to stop 'til it was over!) there was a firepit, and HopeKids had provided all the fixins' for 'smores for us to roast, and also had hot chocolate! The perfect ending to a perfect evening! The new pic on this homepage is from the beginning of the night, and all the new pix on the photo page are also from that night! There's even an action shot of us flying down the hill that Josh of HopeKids took for us! We had an absolute BLAST! Looking forward to that HopeKids event next year!!
We will be going to see "Monsters vs. Aliens" this Sat. w/HopeKids, too. And on Sunday we're going to see the Timberwolves vs. the New Jersey Nets at the Target Ctr.--also a HopeKids event! Jorge will get to enjoy those events with us! Max will be having fun elsewhere!

My Dad's surgery went great! The first day (surgery day) he felt great after surgery (of course he did--he was totally doped up on pain meds! HA HA!). The next day, Saurday, was REALLY rough at the start, but better by the end of the day. And Sunday, he got to go home! He's been doing really well at home, save for the occasional "down" moment. Thank you to all of you who sent our families extra thoughts and prayers!!!

I am seriously considering starting up a NEW CaringBridge (CB) page for Alex, with a link to this "old" one. The reason being, the "new" CB sites (any sites opened after June 1, 2005) have a lot more options as far as photos & content go. Plus, they have options such as providing hard-cover, bound memory books of the journal entries, among many other things. CB is working on the memory book option for us "old" CB members, which I REALLY REALLY want. I just don't have the time to orchestrate anything like that on my own. I don't even have Alex's 1st year scrapbook/memory book done!! So, if I go that route, I will DEFINITELY let everyone know in advance what the new address will be. It will be the same exact address, I think, except that instead of "page" being in the middle, it will have a different word or abbreviation, like "MN". Just wanted to give you an advanced advance notice!

Spring Break is coming up for Alex the week of April 6, and I'm trying to come up with ideas for things to do with the kids so that I don't lose my mind completely!! I only have about 25f it left anyway!! :) (If anyone wants to spring for a trip for us all to Disney World--have at it! We'd take Hawaii, too! HA!!! HA!!!!!)

**NEW PIX ON PHOTO PAGE!**

Love,
Amy
