Welcome to Tyler's Web Page. It has been provided to keep friends and family updated on Tyler's progress. Ty was diagnosed (dx) on 4/22/03 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)standard risk.He had no symptoms leading up to dx. Which is very common. He had an on again off again fever as well as a cold. But certainly nothing to make us worry that he had anything seriously wrong with him. His intial hospitalization lasted for 11 days. The most horrifying 11 days of our lives and the most painful 11 days of Tyler's life.Chemo began immediately after dx as well as, spinal taps, bonemarrow aspirates, surgery to place his medi-port, a blood transfusion and platelettes transfusion. He was put through the wringer and came out the other side as strong as any 4 yr. old could be. We are in the Long term Maintainence Phase of treatment now and it will last for about 2 yrs..Our clinic visits are down to once every 28 days.
Ty has 5 brother's and sister's Emily Ann, Tony, Iliana jr., Christopher, and Michelle,he has an enormous amount of love that surrounds him We are often all amazed with Ty's maturity since dx. Ty can tell you whether his bloodcounts are high enough to go out shopping with dad (one of his favorite ways to spend time with his dad)and he can tell you when he's neutropenic (low ANC putting him at great risk for infection)Since our "journey" began for us we have told Ty that there will be no surprises. We have been very honest with him about everything.
Ty has Leukemia, I couldn't say it for a long while,I can accept it now.But I also see it as a mixed blessing,we all look differently now at what's around us trying not to take anything for granted. The birds singing, the flowers blooming, the beautiful colors on butterflies.Even the stars look different now, everything seems to have a beauty to it that we never noticed before.
I won't thank it for coming into our lives,I do however respect what new perspectives it has given to us.

Tyler's Angels

Angels can you hear me
I don't know what to do
I have a little dream list
and I need for you to prove
that miracles can come true
if believed within your heart
Angels are you listening
it's time to play your part
We have a little boy
he's only four years old
just about a year ago
he caught a little cold
the cold would never go away
the doc's would have the answer
they told us after bloodwork
our baby's battling cancer
Angels can you hear me
our boy has been so brave
he takes his chemo everyday
to keep bad cells away
Angels are you listening
he's just a little boy
and everyday we share with him
just fills our hearts with joy
My dream is nothing big
in fact it's rather small
just sit upon his shoulder
and guide him through it all
Angels Did You Hear Me????

Hi and thank you for visiting Tyler's page.Ty's doing real well he's been hanging tough as always. After running into the swing last month at the park and causing a HUGE goose egg in the middle of his forehead Ty wound up getting pneumonia and being hospitalized as a result. We were in-patient for just a couple of days but Ty couldn't return to school for another week.Ty's teacher Mrs. Coy came to our home to work with him.He did real well, a little nervous at first but he was able to work through it.Ty returned to school and after just a few days of being back Mrs.Griffith (school nurse)called to inform us that there was a child in Kindergarten (different class) who was just dx with chicken pox.So guess where Ty is????? yep, Home Again...We're STILL waiting to hear from the doc's on what exactly we're going to do about the exposure...there was no direct contact as they are Not in the same class...so we might just give a round of anti-biotics starting either Friday or Saturday and pray they do their job.Ty's not happy about being out of school again but he understands and knows now that No one intentionally sets out to get the chicken pox...It just happens....
Everyone else is doing well also!!!!
4 months til 6/19 and no more chemo for Tyler!!!!!!!!!!!!!
as always thanks for checking in on Ty
please keep him in your thoughts and prayers,
love, Mom (Iliana) and the greatest kid in the world,
my warrior,my heart,Tyler James
