Happy birthday Jared!

I don't know how you let that mailbox get the drop on you, but I'm glad you had your helmet. Battle scars on the head are pretty cool (unless your hair covers them) but it's not worth risking a brain injury. Anyway, cuts on the scalp bleed so much that it's almost impossible to explain to your mother how they happened. (I know that from experience. What's so hard to understand about the kid who was standing on your back trying to pound a pole into the ground for a badmitten net dropping the brick? Grownups don't know how to listen, I guess.)

Praying for Tanner and his family.

Wow Connie I can't believe it's been so long, sorry I haven't stopped by Jared's page. He looks great, and I'm so glad he's winning his battle against NB. Brianna is still doing good as well, she's such a happy little girl. She's just finishing up Kindergarten, and she's taking ballet as well. Well anyways take care, and stop by when you can. Will be adding some new pics soon, the page sure needs it lol.

I am sitting here at CHOP reading the card that you guys sent. I cannot believe I am staring at the same Jared who used to love to soak me when he was in the tub! And of course the one who used to say I was his girlfriend and then, like you wrote, denied it every time. Jared you look awesome! I am so happy to see you doing so well. Mom and Dad miss you guys! Glad you are well! Please continue to keep us updated and I will check this site now that I have access. Take care!

Hi Strayer family,
Just viewed your slideshow and it was very inspiring. My daughter Brinsley, is also a Stage IV Neuroblastoma survivor. She was diagnosed in February of 2003, two months before her fourth birthday. Dr. Grupp was also her doctor and treatment for her was identical to Jared's. I'm surprised we didn't meet somewhere along the way. Anyway, God Bless your family and give Jared a big hug, from another mother who worries nonstop. We are also lifting Tanner and his family up in our prayers, and pray that he too will join the list of survivors. Since we don't see Dr. Grupp on a regular basis anymore (she only follows up with her local oncologist for checkups now), I just found out about his diagnosis. We definitley want to join your team and walk in October. I tried to sign up but had some problems doing so, but will keep trying.

Becky Blair <brucebecky@comcast.net>
Howard, Pa USA - Thursday, March 26, 2009 1:55 PM CDT
Dr. Grupp is also my son Dominic's oncologist in Philly for Neuroblastoma. We have traveled back and forth from Buffalo to CHOP to be under his care many, many times. I can also say that Dr. Grupp is great and everybody give him the support he needs as he has done so much for families. My son is at the 4yr point from being diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma tomorrow the 26th and we owe a lot his health to him.
Tony Tringali <atringali@roadrunner.com>
Williamsville, NY US - Wednesday, March 25, 2009 4:37 PM CDT
Thought you might like to tie in Dr. Grupp's passion for fighting neuroblastoma and honor him directly with his personal battle by contacting Alex's Lemonade. You can designate the funds to go to leukemia, and Alex's Lemonade is so directly affiliated with CHOP. Just thought it might be a perfect "connect".

Connie I just read your update. It was great of you to add a request for prayer for Tanner on Jareds page. Thank you so much for that. He definately needs it right now. We will find out more information on his scans tomorrow 3/18. I do know that more cancer was found however. It was a minimal amount more but still not fun to hear that kind of news. Great to hear that Jared is still in remission. Congratulations, hope to get that news in 5 years from now for the both of us. God Bless all of you!

Dear Strayer family,

My name is Kevin Curry. I danced in THON 2009 just this past weekend, and I am grateful that you shared your story with me through dancer mail. Reading about your battle, and seeing how you are overcoming it gave me a strong urge to finish dancing. Your story is truly inspiring and again I thank you so much for sharing with me. I hope to dance again next year and if so I would love to meet you there or really at any of the pre-THON events throughout the year. I danced, and will always dance, for Brandon Loose. And I will always dance to find a cure for nueroblastoma and all forms of pediatric cancer. So Best of Luck in the upcoming months and may God bless your family. Dream Forward.

Hello Jared:
My 2 yr old nephew, Andrew Krolczyk, was also diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, N-MYC amplified, unfavorable pathology (Stage 3). Andrew's horrible nightmare began August 2008 and he is currently undergoing treatment at Sloan. It was encouraging to read about you and your journey. You are such a brave, strong warrior---like all the other children facing this horrible diagnosis. I will pray for you and your continued success as well as all the other warriors.

Connie,

After your post on Lukas' site, I needed to come over and "check on you"! I think I have an answer to your question.... When do you stop worrying? I think it will be when Lukas is 85 years NED! As his grandma, I worry about him anyway. This cancer gives an added layer of concern.

Please let Jared know that he is one of my heroes! I know far too many angels, and far too few survivors. We did meet an 18-year survivor at our walk in March. That was a true blessing! And you know what? I am sure her mom still worries over everything, too!

God bless the Strayer family in 2009 and beyond.

Hey Connie!!! You have every right to freak out! You are a cancer mom and unfortunately, you will never be without the fear of relapse. That's only one of the unfair things about this nasty disease. I feel your fear and understand it! You also know that scan time is coming in a few months and that is nerve wracking in itself... Remember when 3 months between scans seemed like forever?? When the fear grabs you, fight back. Mentally take yourself back to how far Jared and the entire family has come. You guys are awesome and I am especially grateful to have you in my corner as I continue my journey. Just remember, I'm here for you too and I always will be. Love ya Lady!

Oh I am right there with you with the "freaking out". Anytime Nicholas is "off" for a few days or complains about a specific pain....IT DRIVES ME NUTS!!!!! I don't know that we will ever NOT worry about relapse but is does get easier in the day to day area....it just flairs up with any pain or lingering cold issues. I am sure Jared is fine and just suffering from the yucky bug that is going around!! Hope you all had a great Christmas and have a happy and HEALTHY 2009!!!

Hi Jared and Kirsten!!! Happy Tuesday! Oh I just love hearing about your canning weekend and seeing your pictures! It brings back such wonderful memories! Nothing like having 20 college kids for a sleepover in the basement! - so much fun! I would have to say that that was one of the best times of my life - canning weekends - to be in the company of such amazing young men and women who give of themselves - the future of our world is in good hands, isn't it? And such a fine example they set for the younger folk (well, except for cheating at Apples to Apples!!! hehehehee!). We are getting excited for THON - it's right around the corner - and we'll be staying at Dr. Radio's home again - you know you never need an invitation. Meghan will definitely be coming - Michele is working on being able to come - it's a far ride from Boston - but she doesn't want to miss it.

Joel, if you're reading this, I hope all goes well with your dad - he has a whole new team of prayer warriors storming heaven for him now.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week!

Connie,
AWESOME PICTURES - what a beautiful park and since I see the kids in shorts, it must have been beautiful weather too. I wanted to thank you for your kind note on Kate's page - it is a major blessing to us to have someone else rooting for NED who totally understands what we are going through.

Hugs, hope, prayers and support,

Hi Connie!
Now we've found you too! :)
Love the pumpkins - we need to get around to that sometime this week but it's also one year post-treatment scan time...so more to come on that...hopefully all good news.

Hi:
I found your page of the NB hope page on PACC....I am writing you to find out more information about your son's NB.....I have a daughter who was diagnosed with stage 2b NB in January of '07. But since the shimada was unfavorable and the n-myc amplified, she was classified high risk and has so far had almost all the treatments available. The last 2 scans came back NED and we are going in for a third follow up scan next week... but I have been looking for people who have survived NB...they are hard to find. So I was very happy to read about your son. and I was wondering about the details of his NB

You can find lots and lots of info on my daughter at

HI Connie, thinking of you guys as you say goodbye to your friend Brandon. Let me know what Kirsten comes up with for a plan.. Scott invented Sean's Troops, army guys that blast cancer cells. We leave army guys for kids when we go to Ronald in NY. They often have a candy dish at the desk. Scott also realized that some kids are NPO and can't have the candy, but on those days they can have toy army guys. I'm so glad that Jared continues to do well.

Everyone who has a child with cancer I need your help. Can you please type up a brief, one page paper telling your Childs story and how the diagnoses changed the life of the whole family.

Through a friend of a friend I am going to print each and every story and they will be hand delivered to Oprahs producer in the hopes of getting her to do a show on Childhood Cancer.

People need to know what us parents go through trying to get medications approved and treatments through the insurance company.

How sick our kids are, what one child with cancer does to the whole family, what the siblings have to go through along with what it does emotionally and financially to the family. The side effects our children have to live with the rest of their lives, the secondary cancers some of the kids will get, with no where to turn.

We are now dealing with the horrible side effects of radiation with no relief in sight for my daughter who was treated for EWING'S SARCOMA (bone cancer), but no one cares what happens to our children except the handful of others who are going down the same road as we are.

So please write your story and E-mail it to me at gonikki501@yahoo.com if you can please send a picture of before and after diagnoses if there's space on the page.

Thank you all and hopefully this will be the beginning of Gold ribbons everywhere. Please pass this on to who ever would like to participate. Please have your story in by Oct.19th.

THE GOLD RUSH!

Sending you love and good wishes! Shayla's vision therapy obviously helped her - for the rest of her life. Her 3rd grade state test score just came back. She missed a perfect score out of 500 points, by 5. She continues to read grades above her grade level - VERY DIFFERENT than being below grade level and having a D in reading prior to vision therapy. I wish you all the best!!!

Hi Connie and Jared,
I'm Sam Philip's Grammy and I've been reading your posts on Sam's blog for many months. Thanks so much for your thoughts, prayers, and words of encouragement. Today I had been feeling a little down and I decided to check out a survivor! Wow! Jared looks great and it makes me feel so good hearing about his fantastic recovery.

I'm a teacher and I loved reading about your experiences at the library and with Jared's reading problems. I agree with you completely. The one recommendation that I want to make is that YOU continue to read to both of your children everyday. Some of my best memories with my 4 children are reading long chapter books to them. As they got older and became readers themselves they would sneak the books and read ahead!

Thanks for always thinking of us. The start of the school year is tough, but Zachary is looking forward to first grade. I can't believe how big Jared is! He is almost as tall as his sister in the photos. I'm so happy he is doing well and still remains cancer free.

Zachary also loves the Fly Guy books, and we just finished two of them this week! "Shoo Fly Guy" and "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Fly Guy". They crack him up every time.

Anyway, I hope your leg is better soon. Many blessings to you and your family. We'll actually be at Dutch Wonderland, probably for the last time, next week. I'm taking Zach with his little two-year-old cousin. I had won some tickets in a raffle. Lots of love to everyone,

Hi Jared,
It sounds like you are off to a great start this school year. I also have a brother with the same name as you, but his name is spelled differently (Jerod). I've never come across another Jerod with the same spelling. I'm so happy to see how strong and well you are doing after all you went through a few years ago. You help to inspire us through all that my 5 year old son, Sam, has to go through right now. I Hope we can be where you're at in a few years. Keep reading those books! We have so many, we virtually have a library of kids books at home, but we still go to the library. Sam loves The Magic Tree House Series, The Bailey City Monsters series, Andrew Lost series, My Weird School series and the Captain Underpants series the best. Hope you continue to have a great first week at school!

Thanks for stopping by Morgan's site and leaving a kind message. Sometimes people who used to read Morgan's page will ask me if I am still updating it. I always say yes but that it is really more of my children than for the public. I, too, want my kids to be able to use it to remember things we did. I hope that someday Morgan is able to go back to it and truly understand just a miracle her life is. I remember when she was first diagnosed I just wanted some proof that it is possible to survive this horrible disease. Hopefully, Jared and Morgan can inspire families who are just starting this long difficult journey.

Connie,

I saw your entry in baby Jackson's guestbook. My grandson is also officially a survivor of NB! Lukas was diagnosed at 11 months as a stage 4 metastatic NB patient. I agree with Kathie, Jackson's grandmother. My only real exposure so far has been children who are undergoing treatments, who have relapsed, or who have earned their angel wings. It does my heart good to see a long-term survivor.

Dear Connie,
I am still in awe of your strength and courage over the last five years not only as a mother, as a friend, a community organizer, and so much more. Our prayers are with you as always. I do believe the Lord will continue to smile and watch faithfully over Jared, and your family. What a reflection of your own kindness it was to have Kirsten give to others on her birthday. I'm very proud and grateful to have such a fine friend. I also will extend my prayers to all others who are struggling.....and also those who are celebrating. Love, chris

Hello Strayer Family,
Wow! Kirsten's huge heart and spirit of giving heart are amazing. The article brought me to tears. Thank you so much for remembering Saylor and Macy's birthday. It's a busy month with St. Baldricks, and two birthdays in the family. But, most importantly, we will praying for NED. I know it's a nervous time for you, but know there are lots of us out here sending extra prayers your way.

Lots of Love,

Hi - Glad you had a great time at THON - the kids work so hard to make it special. I also thought that Jared fans who aren't as familiar with the Penn State Dance Marathon (plus all the other fund raising activities done for the kids) might be WOWED to know that this year's amazing total was.....DRUM ROLL.....$6,615,318.04.

Hello!!
That is awesome you were able to go to Penn State for THON!! That is such an incredible event! I gave to some canners but don't usually make it to the event. I remember how huge it is from when I went to Penn State. Little did I know how much childhood cancer would affect our lives in the future. Hopefully with all of the foundations and research we can beat this disease once and for all!!

Kirsten - Happy Belated Birthday!! We share the same birthday...I won't tell you how old I am though :)

I check in on you guys often but haven't signed the guestbook in awhile. I'm glad to hear all is going well for all of you!

Take Care,

Hey Jared.........do I know you??!! hehehehee!!! You are just too cute! And I love seeing you full of all of that energy! Kirsten - you are just growing up - what a beautiful young lady you are. And dearest Connie! Now there is one fun mom who is just so in to her kids! It was wonderful seeing all of you....if only for that short time, it just touches my heart - you are all so special. Thank you. Glad that you got back safe and sound. We had to head out right after family hour, but Michele, Meghan and Patrick stayed and they texted us a picture with the total. Just amazing!

Maybe we should plan to get together in between THON - do you ever go to Knoebels??

Sending much love your way. ~ sylvia

Jared and Kirsten, you and your family are amazing! What an inspiration - thank you! I needed to read your story because its not often you come across awesome kids such as yourselves who have beaten cancer and are pursuing life to its fullest. I love the athleticism in your family and only hope that one day we will be there too. I am mother to Ylaria Carrasco-Cazares who was diagnosed in June of '07. My plan to visit as many NB family sites as I come across to give words of hope and encouragement. What I'm finding moreso is that the pages are giving me hope and encouragement! My prayers are with you and your family as you continue to pursue life's adventures and kick NB's butt! Thank you for sharing your story on this page and good luck in everything you do! Hello Strayers!!! Happy Tuesday! Gosh, seeing the pictures of the Penn State THON group having a sleepover at your home brought back such wonderful memories. We really missed not having canners stay here this year. We actually tried to "adopt" a group, but I guess they all had a place to go. : ( I was driving to NJ this last canning weekend and I just happened to be wearing my THON sweatshirt. It was so cool...."Hey, she's wearing a THON sweatshirt!!"...there was no need to explain to me what THON means! I know this is a hectic time for those students...with finals, and before you know it crunch time for THON weekend. Our prayers are with all of them.

I had to giggle at the "picking of the Christmas tree" story. I know I don't have to tell you to treasure all of that bickering over which tree to cut down. : ) This was the first year that neither of the girls were with us. We made the best of it...as soon as we pulled in to the Christmas tree farm I took a picture with my phone of the hundreds of trees and sent it with a text to each of the girls..."WHICH ONE???" ...later sent a picture of the one we chose...their response?...."Beautiful"..."Looks good"...it was sort of like they were there, but.... THAT'S NOT THE RESPONSE I WANTED! I WANTED THEM TO ARGUE OVER IT! heheheee! What did we do before all of this technology??!

I better get back to putting the rest of the ornaments on this tree....we've only been doing that since LAST Saturday!

Counting the days til THON....and hope we'll be able to meet there again. love, sylvia xoxo

Glad to see all is going well!! I have to say since I swam competively for YEARS that I am sad he stopped swimming...but GO GET EM in wrestling!!! Jared,I am sure you will do great!!
I know what you mean about not a week going by you don;t have SOME thought to NB. Nicholas' dx was this month 4 years ago and we happen to be up at Duke for his eye surgery this past week (ended up being the 9th and his dx was the 7th of 03) So here I was at Duke 4 years later for a simple eye surgery and I was miserable!!!! All the thoughts and emotions come rushing back and while he is this active, healthy boy NOW..what he had to go through then. THen I got thinking of all the kids we had met there during treatment who aren't with us any longer!! SUCKS!!!! But I do have to say I don't think about it NEARLY as much as I used to...it is getting easier the farther out he goes!!
Hope all continues to go well and that you enjoy your Thanksgiving!!!

Did I tell you that Meghan brought a dog home when she graduated? Hey Connie, I couldn't help but chuckle when you said not to worry that you will get Jared all he needs to succeed... I have no doubt in that whatsoever! You are an awesome mom! I may have told you this, but my boys needed alot of extra help, especially with reading, last year. Just like you and Jared, my sons don't learn from me. We barely get through homework, but by the end of the school year, they were reading above grade level. Hang in there. Hopefully, you will learn that his difficulties won't hinder him much at all.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Connie,
I'm sorry about the loss of your Grandma. I thought I had posted earlier and find I hadn't. She sounded like one amazing woman!

Love this picture of the kids enjoying summer the way they should! Good luck with the school issues, we just finished more neuropsych testing with Carolyn yesterday. Very frustrating to have to jump through all of these hoops to get the schools here in VA to do what they are legally required to do! Here is a good website to get information on the special ed issues http://www.wrightslaw.com, hope it will help you understand the process etc. I wish I had found it before I went to Carolyn's first IEP meeting!

Well, enjoy these last two weeks of summer--sure seems like it has flown by this year!

I know it's been a long time, I'm so glad Jared is doing good. Brianna is doing wonderful, she has her scans in August. If everything goes okay she will be moving to scans every year, which will be so nice. Brianna's daddy and I divorced on June 19th, and her daddy and his girlfriend just had a baby on the 28th. I hope you all had a wonderful Easter! Those eggs you painted are BEAUTIFUL! Michele and Meghan even stayed in last night and made pysanky eggs - you create a design on the egg, etch it with bees wax using a very fine "needle" of sorts, and then dipping the egg in to the first color, etching more with the wax, dip into the next color, etc. The did such a nice job! : )

Great job in school Kirsten and Jared! Kirsten, you're a girl after my own heart! : )

Hey guys !!! It's Jason from THON :)

I just wanted to say hi and see how everything is going. Things at Penn State certainly have not slowed down since THON. Last weekend, I went to Atlanta to visit Georgia Tech's grad school. Not a bad way to escape the 30 degree temperatures if you ask me - haha. Anyways, keep in touch and I will be seeing you all soon !!!

P.S. Keep checking the mail in the next few days...

Hello Strayers! Well Kirsten, I'm feelin' for you...I guess I'm getting too old to be pulling those all nighters at THON...I have an ear infection, sinusitis, and bronchitis. YUK! Hoping the antibiotics kick in soon. : )

Crazy hair day sounds like fun! Did I ever tell you about the time Meghan's preschool had "backwards day"...she had an absolute melt down saying how "stupid" that was. Til this day she still does not like change! I think something like crazy hair day would have gone a little smoother. : )

Connie, you should have called us when you were stuck! You could have joined the sleep over party at the Radio house where we were staying. I hope it won't happen next year, but if it does, please, do not hesitate to call us!

Hope you all have a good rest of the week. I'm hoping all the snow will disappear with the rising temps and liquid sunshine! Sending lots of love your way! ~ Sylvia

Connie,
I was so happy to see you at THON. I wish we lived closer together so we could visit more. Anyway we will be at CHOP on the 13th. ALL DAY LONG!!! He has to have bloodwork done every 2 hrs that day. Where will you be??

I wish I could have been there for family hour. I would have loved to share that with you and everyone else, it is actually one of my favorite parts of THON. Unfortunately, two of my children were throwing up so we had to cut our weekend short. But next year we will be standing side by side with our boys between us. Shawna said hi and it was nice seeing you again.

Love you

Yes, what an amazing event, isn't it? If anyone has the opportunity to visit State College in February, please, make THON part of your "vacation". We do not have a child with cancer, but my best friend died of cancer when we were 13 yrs old. THON holds a special place in our hearts because of what they do. When our daughter became involved as a student we were blessed to become more involved. I still have goose bumps. I don't know how those students do it...I made it to hour 38 and crashed for a few before going back. THANK YOU PENN STATE FOR ALL THAT YOU DO! You may never know all of the lives that you touch.

Jared, we just had to giggle when we heard mom being paged! Guess mom and I were gabbing too much! hehehee!!! .... lost parents! What is a child to do???!!!! Connie, it was great watching you hike it over that fence!!! : )

Have a great week. I think I'll try to get some sleep now. I've been so wound up since getting home, just thinking about all of the emotions of the weekend. Talk to you soon. love, sylvia

Hello Strayers (or should I say Hello Mon!)
Just wanted to drop you a short note to let you know that we enjoyed meeting you in Jamaica! It is a really small world. I mean what are the chances that we just happened to sit beside each other on the beach - not to mention that the subject of NB came up...

It was really nice of you to already reach out to our nephew. Your story is great to hear and gives us all hope! My brother and wife really appreciated hearing all about it when I talked to them.

Sorry our vacations didn't ovelap longer as I am sure we would have had a great time with each other. We had such a wonderful time overall that we will definitely be going back - so maybe we will see you again (since it is such a small world!)

Hope you had a great time and that you both relaxed, had a lot of fun, and brought home a great tan! :)

Just stopping by to say "Happy New Year!". What a beautiful picture of the kids on your homepage. Sounds like you had a great Christmas. I hope Kristen is feeling better by now. We are fighting bronchitis in our family. Both of my younger two, Mary Claire and Thomas, are on antibiotics right now. Thomas had clean scans again in December. He doesn't go back to UCSF until June. As of this month, he has been NED for 2 years. As you know, it feels so good to have come this far. Wishing all of you all the best in 2007! Hello Strayers!

Glad all of you had a nice Christmas! Kirsten and Jared look so happy and healthy. What a blessing! I hope you have a wonderful time in Jamaica. We're still working on a vacation sans the kids, but with the new one coming in March, I am pretty sure it will be down the road a bit. In any event, I hope you two have a great time and I'm sure Jared and Kirsten will love having Grandma spoil them for a week!

Lots of hugs,
Candace

DEAR MIKE, CONNIE, JARED AND KRISTEN,

~~ I WISH YOU ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS! ~ ~

I HAD QUITE ALOT OF "HOMEWORK" TO READ IN YOUR PAST JOURNALS.
WHEW, ALWAYS SOMETHING HAPPENING.

I LOVE YOUR CHRISTMAS WEB PAGE AND PHOTOS OF YOUR 2 PRECIOUS CHILDREN.

I READ, CONNIE, WHAT YOU HAD WRITTEN SO BEAUTFULLY, AND POWERFULLY,
ABOUT CHILDREN( OF COURSE PARENTS) WHO ARE FOREVER FACING CHALLENGES GOING THRU TREATMENTS, AND THOSE THAT DONT MAKE IT THRU.
THE REMINDERS NEED TO HAPPEN. CONGRATS, CONNIE ON TAKING THAT LEAP TO REMIND US ALL.

AND KEEP US ALL POSTED ABOUT JAREDS HAIR: GOOD FOR YOU PUTTING HIS PHOTO ON THE WEB: MAYBE SOMEONE (?) WILL
HAVE AN ANSWER FOR YOU. WOULDNT THAT BE NICE?

YOU ARE A PRECIOUS AND GIVING FAMILY.

SINCERELY,

Cute pics!! They are both VERY photogenic!! I have to laugh cuz last year Nicholas and Jared had the same Christmas outfit from Gymboree and this year I ALMOST got Hannah the dress Kristin is wearing. But she opted for a black and red dress.
I hope the kids both feel better SOON! Christmas wouldn't be fun if you were sick!! We are all just getting over a yucky cold too.

Wow, your entry hits me right where I live! I know there are people who feel the same way about our family: "Carolyn is better now, get over it." They just cannot understand. As one of the mother of one of the lucky THIRTY PERCENT of stage iv nb survivors, I feel it is my responsibility to do what I can to raise awareness and funding for research, not only to help the children who will come after mine in treatment, but to honor the MANY, MANY children we have lost. Hello!
Our prayers are with Angel. It's a shame puppies have to taste everything. At least you knew that she ate it. Our puppy ate something poisonous and we didn't know what it was. He had to stay in the animal hospital for 2 days on iv fluids and meds. It was so sad.

I scheduled Kolton's next scans yesterday for the end of this month. We will be going the 28th for the injection and 29 for the scan. Please keep Kolton in your prayers for continued NED.

I'm glad everyone else in the family is doing well and we will keep Angel in our prayers.

Hi Connie,
Well, I agree with you on the hitting issue. I have told Macy she has my permission to stand up for herself. When she was in first grade I received a call from the school because she had hit a 5th grade boy and made him cry. I asked to speak to Macy and she told me the reason she hit the boy was because he hit her friend and knocked the girl's glasses off her face. I then relayed the whole story to the principal and he was apologizing to us. Macy, like Jared, isn't a person who hits, but I'm glad I told her she could stand up for herself. She hasn't had any problems since then. Good luck!

All my best,
Candace

Hi Connie,
I absolutely loved your entry... we are going through the same thing with our puppy. He was doing very well with housebreaking, except for excited peeing :) But then this past week he ate something poisonous(we think possibly a mushroom outside) and he had to be in the animal hospital for 2 nights on iv fluids and meds for his pancreatitis. He's been having more accidents since we brought him home. We'll get there though.

Jared & Kirsten, Congratulations on learning to ride your bikes!! That's awesome! Kolton started learning this summer, but is still using the training wheels.

I wish you all the best with housebreaking your puppy.

I sooooo know what you mean about puppies! Charley is 10 months old and will go outside and pee right away, then run in the house, run upstairs and poop! The joys of potty training! Actually he is driving me crazy right now getting in to EVERYTHING and tearing EVERYTHING up! Doggy school seems to help some, but we have a LONG way to go! Jared looks so happy and healthy! Hi Connie,

Thank heaven for a clean check for Jared. He is someone who gives us all hope in a time when so many of our warriors and their families are struggling. We are all in pain over it and news like this helps us get through the day. Thanks for the quick update, Connie - I for one needed it.

Hi, my name is Kim Booth and I am the mother to Chandler Booth who was diagnosed with nb on July 17, 2003 in Atlanta , GA. Chandler was 14 months old at that time. He was also on the same protocol as your son (ANBLOOP 1, I think it was?) Chandler is also doing well....they have never given us the NED title but he sure looks and acts great. I just wanted to write to you to let you know about another child that was dx so close to yours and is doing so well. Congrats on a healthy, beautiful boy and girl! Dear Connie -

I LOVE the picture with your new hairdo! I am so glad you posted it because it is always so much better than having to imagine how beautiful you looked!

I was also very comforted by you telling us all that you were not sad that Jared was going off to school on his first day. Janie starts Pre-K this coming week and I am more excited than anything. I have been feeling guilty about that. I am sure you know what I mean.

Good luck with your first day of work today. It will be a tiring few weeks for you I guess, while you change your internal clock. Maybe not so bad since you elected to change your shift for wonderful reasons. Still I hope the transition is not too hard.

Take care!

Just catching up with your last few posts - I am so glad you are finished with all of the house business and I hope that all is settling down once and for all with your new one! It looks lovely and like a very comforting place to be. I had to laugh when I read what you wrote about Kirsten and the laundry shoot. I know lots of grown up girls who would just love to have one of those!!! You know, she really got me thinking......I want a laundry shoot too!!!!

Good luck with the new school start!

Oh Connie....I just have to smile every time reading your stories! I can just see them going around taking that border off the wall! I don't mean to giggle....but.... you really do make my night when I stop by to check on you!

Kirsten, I'm so happy that there will be a familiar face in your classroom! And Jared, you write your name very well! Good job!

I'm just a little jealous...I always said that when we moved I wanted to get a trampoline....well, we've been here three years.....and there is still that nice big open space in our yard just waiting to be filled. Not so sure the neighbors would enjoy watching ME jumping on it, but I know I'd have fun! : )

Next weekend we'll be heading up to Penn State for the first game. I'm soooo excited! Actually, I don't go for the football...I go for the tailgate! We usually have about 30-50 kids stopping by for something to nibble on. We really do have a good time. I'm also getting very psyched for THON....fundraising starts October 1st....just around the corner! I'm hoping that we'll be able to host the canners again this year. We had so much fun with them last year. Neat, neat group of kids, aren't they Connie?

Well I better clear the dinner table. Hope you have a great weekend! love, sylvia

And you're right Connie, it will be good for Jared to socialize and meet friends....my kids are into their second day of school...getting up for the older two at 5:45am has not been an easy transition...Dave gets up around 7:30 so that's not too bad. Hi Connie -

Wow - lots of wonderful news from your end. What a nice treat that your house sold so fast! Have you started packing yet?!? When I read about your changing jobs, I could barely believe what you have on your plate. I don't know how you do all you do - especially regarding all the time and effort you devote to promoting NB awareness and fundraising, yet STILL write all those tidbits about those darling kids of yours as if you spent every minute of the day with them.

I should thank you now for all of your hard work. You are truly an inspiration, and I hope to be able to contribute in a way that you have demonstrated to us all, once our lives are more structured here. I have only 6 weeks before I go back to work (since Janie's dx). Very scared, I don't want to leave, but it is part of the process of moving on, and a step I have to face. Connie, you give me great hope.

With love and prayers,

Colleen

Connie....I always say "you're never lost, just somewhere you've never been before".... : ) Good luck to you with your new position at work. It will take some adjustment switching to night shift, but you are so right, you will have that little bit of freedom to work around Jared and Kirsten's schedules for school, etc. Also glad to hear that your home sold! Hope everything works out with your new home situation. Looks like the kiddos had a good time at the beach. We had our trip to Knoebels which was sooo much fun! We go with four other families and just have a blast. It amazes me that though all the kids are teens to early 20's, they still like doing this...and they all get along so well and just have so much fun. Neat to see them all turning in to wonderful young adults too. This year we made t-shirts...Meghan designed them and they really turned out neat....AND, everyone in the park, including the employees, wanted them! We got a kick out of that. We had so much fun with those shirts we washed them that night and wore them again the next day. We're already working on the design for next year! Our friends, the Kinsella's, their middle child, Kevin, started at the Merchant Marine Academy the week before our trip...this was the first year he wasn't able to join us, and his mom and dad were a little emotional. TO THE RESCUE....Kevin Borden, dad of the other family, who brought with him a lifesize face of Kevin Kinsella that he mounted on foam board. We took Kevin with us everywhere....on the roller- coaster, bumper cars, at the ticket booth, peeking out of the ladies room, and making the campfire! We took pictures of him doing all of these things (people around us thought we were NUTS!!) and we're putting together a book of the pics with funny captions to send to Kevin.... along with a shirt that we made for him. In a few weeks we'll be heading to the shore for a few days to visit with Victor's uncle, which will be nice and relaxing.

Before you know it THON 2007 will be here! Can't wait! Should be an interesting transition this year. We're looking forward to hosting the canners again. What a neat group of kids.

Have a great rest of the week. Sending hugs your way.
love, sylvia

When I put my dog at the pet hotel, she refused to eat too! Maybe its common with well loved doggies huh?
