Grant Nitchman's Care Page

Welcome to our webpage for Grant. Our son was diagnosed with JMML - a rare childhood leukemia. Grant had his bone marrow transplant on Thursday, September 11, 2003. Our brave daughter, Gracie was his donor. He is now over 4 (yes, FOUR) years post-transplant and is in remission. So please, "Say a prayer of thanks for me!"

Grant Nitchman

Well it has been too long as usual and so I am left to write another entry packed with surprises and such. 2007 brought many changes to our lives as we have moved back home again to Murrysville, Pa in July. Craig has taken a position with Westinghouse and is enjoying his new job. We are so happy to be back in the Pittsburgh area! While we had great friends in Warren it just was not the right place for us. I have so much peace now that we are near Children's Hospital and that is priceless.

Grant turned 5 on November 21. He is in a pre-kindergarten preschool three afternoons a week. We just had is 4 year post BMT check-up and the preliminary results we good. We are still waiting for the genetic testing. He is a rambunctious little boy - he loves Legos, Star Wars, and action figures. Next year he will go to school all day!

Veronica is in 7th grade, Julia in 4th, Grace in 2nd. They went back to regular school in February 2007. Homeschooling was not working out for us... They are in school here and doing well. They all play basketball and are making many new friends here. They have adjusted well - they are basically like "army brats" and seem to make friends quickly. We are so proud of them!

This year was a turning point for me as well. I have lost 60 pounds and am in better shape than when I met Craig. I have also started working part time.

That's alot for one year, right? I think so. Check out some of the photos that I have posted from this year. Thank you for checking in on Grant and please know that he and all of us are doing well.

Happy Holidays!

Beth
