Saturday, January 25, 2003 + 619 POST TRANSPLANT

Hello to all,

We would like to wish all a Happy and Healthy New Year. So much has happened since our last post in early September. September 10th Erik was hospitalized with Zoster (shingles) of the face, this was extremely painful, but he got through it after a week in the Bone Marrow Unit. In early October he was once again hospitalized for pneumonia for one week. Erik came out for a week, then back in for another week with pnuemonia again. He was very angry and fought all the way to the hospital both times, but he finally realized it was for his own good. He got stronger each day. He now has an elbow problem due to the steroids that he had to take for his Graft vs Host Disease, it also affected his back, he is currently being treated for these problems. November went well and in December, he finally received his MMR shot, clearing the way back to school part-time. Christmas was beautiful and we had so much to be thankful for. We had Christmas Eve dinner at Mom Cichanowsky's, then off to Mass. Christmas day was dinner at out home for the first time in thirty-one years!!!! Erik wanted it that way. We had a beautiful dinner--until the snow started, then everyone had to leave before it got too bad. But it was one beautiful Christmas to remeber.

Erik is now a student at Philadelphia University (the old Philadelphia Textile University), he is going part-time and is living on campus in a five bedroom townhouse, all five roomates have their own bedroom. Erik is enjoying them all, they have so much in common, eg. video games, movies, music, etc. They have welcomed Erik and made him feel right at home. He has not told them he had Leukemia, he will when the time is right, he said he does not want them to treat him differently. Ok Erik! It's been two weeks since Erik left for school and our home is SO quite. Gene John misses his brother, we are lost without him, but we are happy for him that he has returned to a somewhat normal life. Praise the Lord!

Just remember to please keep him in your prayers, he still has a long way to go. Also, keep our family in your prayers and Sue, my sister, she was diagonosed with MS in October and is receiving weekly shots, hopefully it will stay in the early stages. Our church is still praying and so is the Archmere Rosary group, they have prayed weekly since he was dx'd in 2/01, they are one powerful group and we have grown very close.

Thanks agin to all, I will try to update next month. Mary
