Hi, I am elated to hear that your son is NED. I will pray for you and your family that he will continue to be one of Gods miracles and have a long & healthy life. It is encouraging for me to read his story because my husband and I are now going through the same type of battle with our son Peter. He is now 3 months old, and was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma Stage 3 when he was only one month old. His treatment is active and he has already had one surgery and three rounds of chemo. He seems to be responding well and we hope and pray that God will heal him and he will also be NED one day. God Bless you and your family

Hi, I just want to say how happy I am so hear that your little boy is cancer free!! We will be praying for you all. I had a son named Samuel David and he was diangnosed with Medulloblastoma in March. He passed away in April 2010. We have a caringbridge page for him . Nothing can take away the joy and love that we shared together or the memories we made. His twin brothers name is Daniel. We miss him so much but find peace through prayer and trusting God and through making more happy memories together. God bless you and your family and I am so glad for you all. Hugs and Aloha!

It was a pleasure to met your family and very exciting to share 5 years NED with you. Your website is amazing. We will be at the walk for CHOP , I will look for you. We will be walking with a group of our area. August 20th will mark 2 years NED for Felicia. I celebrated the entire summer instead of waiting, each day that are children are NED is a reason to celebrate. Hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and keep in touch.

Love,
Renee and Felicia

Barb,
Thanks MUCH for signing Kate's guestbook and giving me a link back to yours... I'm so happy to find another survivor! Your quote brings tears to my eyes as it is EXACTLY how I feel and what I try to explain to others who have not been on this journey, felt this fear, battled this beast and seen the damage it does to so many innocent children and families. God Bless!

Hi,

I am the Dad of AJ, a 14 year old cancer victim. I wanted to make you aware (maybe again) and enlist your help for the Cure Childhood Cancer petition! The GREAT news is that CureSearch, LIVESTRONG and Alex’s Lemonade Stands have ALL written about the Petition on their websites! And TX Children’s and DUKE have both allowed us to setup paper versions inside the hospitals! WE ARE MAKING HEADWAY and are at over 11,000 signatures! But we need your help again. If you can please make your readers aware, email it around again, and give just a little publicity, I think we can make this happen!

Thanks again,
AJs Dad

Barb, I'm so excited to hear about Maris using the word "cured" for Daniel. It's so awesome and I am sooo happy for you, what would we do without CHOP? I have met so many people (I'm sure you have met more) from all over since Nate's birth and it just really hits home that we have access to the best doctors and latest research pretty much in our back yards! We've been playing phone tag but we'll catch up soon, going down the beach next week but will be around after Aug 2nd for the rest of the summer!

Dear friends --

Your young man is so beautiful, so handsome, and his eyes show a wisdom far beyond his years. I'm very happy and thankful that his recovery is going so well. The power of prayer, the love of a caring family, seem to transcend even the recent advances in medical science.

Thank you for reaching out to my family (jacksonboyd is my youngest grandchild) and sharing your courage with those of us who are so recently devastated by NB diagnosis. We don't yet have our "sea legs", and are still learning how to walk this path. It's wonderful for us newbies to have brave shoulders to lean on while we learn how to fight this demon.

Barb,

Thanks for signing Layla's guestbook. Great news on Daniel and many Prayers and good thoughts his way from Katy, Texas. Layla is 2 cycles of Chemo in and is doing great so far. Scans and blood work so far this week and we are hoping the tumor has shrunk enough to do surgery.

Thanks again and keep the good news coming.

Dear Cooper family,
It is so reassuring to see little Daniel's face and to know that he has been NED for some time now. My granddaughter, Gillian, was diagnosed with Stage 4 NB, non-amplified in June 2007 - she was 11 months old. She has just completed her first 4-round cycle of chemotherapy and we're awaiting the results of her repeat scans done last week. Daniel gives me hope.
It's also encouraging to see the fundraisers that are occurring - they'll also raise awareness of NB and move us closer to a cure.

I read Daniel's story and Daniel's NED status gives me so much hope. I hope my daughter follows Daniel's footsteps. Thank you for the encouraging words. I will check on Daniel for updates.

I´m mom to a 14 months old girl, Laura. She was diagnosed last January and her primary site was also on the neck (extending to the chest and mediastinum) after 2 rounds of chemo it shrunk about 80% of its original size, but there´s still some image on the original site. She´s gone through some tests and doctors are assuming it´s scar tissue, but not 100% sure. The tumor is 'inoperable' due to its location ( it displaces the aorta and vena cava) She was initially staged at 2a, but then re-staged to 3- intermediate risk due to the tumor being unresectable. They´ve decided to put her through another 4 rounds of chemo (total of 8), just to be on the safe side. As you said on the journal, the neck appears to be a very rare site of nb and to me, not being able to resect the 'something' still there and make sure it´s not active disease, makes it even harder to cope and believe the doctors when they say she´s going to be ok (based on what?) I´d really appreciate if you could e-mail me and let me know what tests Daniel did, when did he stop treatment and other facts regarding protocol followed and end of treatment follow up. I´d be happy to answer any question you´d have about Laura´s case. God be with you.

Hi Barb, Joe, Daniel & Jason,
We are so excited to hear the great news---NO ACTIVE DISEASE----We will keep all of you in pray. We understand the concern for the continued testing but it feels so good when the CT scans show significant shrinkage or no change from the last CT scan. Let us know about the 5k/2k run/walk. Nancy thinks she is diffently interested in the 2k walk, I am not sure about the run. I have marked 9/25/05 on our calendar. Hope you had a wonderful time in Avalon. Make sure you take Daniel in the ocean on Aug 15, 2005 even if it is just his big toe. The water is blessed that day and is suppose to have wonderful healing powers. We will talk to you when you get back. Love Tom & Nancy

To Daniel's family:

I received a call this morning from my cousin Rhona who works with your sister-in-law, Sandy, in Conn. My son, Gabriel, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma on 12/5/95 and is now almost 11 years old. He was 15 1/2 months at the time, stage IV with N-myc amplification. We spent lots of time at CHOP and thank G-d I can share with you what I just wrote.
I know first-hand exactly what you are going through and can only extend my thoughts and prayers to you. IT IS DEVASTATING and so difficult knowing that you have no control and can't do anything about this disease other than be with your son, tend to his needs, and SPEAK for him to those providing the care. Go with your gut, don't be afraid to speak for him, ask as many questions as you need to have answered at the time you need them answered.
Gabe's oncologist told me when he was diagnosed that it doesn't matter what the statistics are as long as you are on the right side of them. This helped me because I kept thinking he would be one of the "lucky of the unlucky" and survive this. The fact that he is sooo young is actually, as I recall, to his benefit. The statistics for children less than a yr. are better than over a year and I was told even that gabe was 15mo was in his favor. There is so much to absorb. I know it is so complex for you and your family and friends. Stay strong. Keep focused. It's Ok to cry and feel sorry for Daniel and yourselves, etc. Do the best you can, whatever way you need to get through this. If you ever want to talk, feel free. You can get my phone numbers through Sandy. Have her ask Rhona for them. All the best. I have a home in the Old City of Jerusalem and will ask someone there to say a prayer for Daniel. We say it is "local" there. I very much believed in thoughts and prayers and we had this going for us as well. There is no way to make any sense out of this but I guess there is reason for everything.

All the best from someone that was there. G-d willing, you will be able to look back on this in years to come and it will seem very surreal and even sometimes like it didn't happen.

Barb & Joe: Thank you for being so prompt in posting updates. I know many many people have probably been visiting his site awaiting the results of yesterday's doctors appoint. We will keep you all in our prayers. (Joe, we sent the web page to Joe Conroy. I ran into him on Sunday night & he was asking how you & the family were doing. He said he will try to give you a call. I asked everyone to keep you guys in their prayers.) It was great to see you guys today.

Dear Joe, Barb, Daniel & Jason,
Thank you so much for creating this webpage and helping us to understand what you are going through. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. We will make sure to send up some extra prayers between now & Friday. Deb & Nick wanted you to know they are praying for you also & have put Daniel on the prayer lists of Bishops Burbridge & McFadden. Deb has forwarded emails to everyone she knows to ask them to pray for Daniel. I have forwarded this webpage to Deb. We understand 1st hand what your are going through. Just remember people do get cured from cancer. I have been cancer free for 2 years. Also God takes cares of little children. We were told today Pope John Paul II loved little children & needs a miracle to become a saint so we have begun praying to him also. Love Tom & Nancy

Barb:
As our kids have played together over the past year and a half, I have gotten to know you not as just a playgroup mom, but as a friend. On the days that life seems more overwhelming than you can handle, draw strength from the heart felt entries on this site and know you have an army of support that will be with you on Daniel's road to recovery.
Love Chris

Barb, Joe and family, Reading these entries show me that you have an excellent support system! Having a child with cancer is a scary situation. Knowing that you have people that you haven't even met praying for you is a wonderful thing. Know that he is in the best of hands being treated at CHOP. Philadelphia has the best health care for cancer...They saved my 11 month old son, Sean from loosing his eye to cancer! Best of luck on Friday. I'll look forward to hearing your news.

Barb - I'm Jenn's sister Sheb. We had a little girl in our preschool who had a neuroblastoma...she's all better now. She's five, and she has absolutely no sign of having been ill. She is just the most precious kid, full of life and smart as a whip. You wonder as you go through this how your child will emerge...scared, or strong. I've seen that a child can get through this with a serious sense that he can take on and defeat the monsters.

People you don't even know will be praying for you...when that was the case for me & my daughter Rachel, I know it got me through some of those nights early on. Be strengthened, and take care.
