Hi Haley!
Sorry it's taken me so long to email you. If I keep bugging Kateylnn for more info on how you're doing, she'll probably tell me to shut up. We both know how rare it is for her to do that, though. I know you've heard the same thing a million times but WE MISS YOU! PLEASE COME BACK SOON! Please email me, I'm begging you. You'd have to use your aol account (the manatee one). So boring at lunch without you!
Miss you,
Angela

So glad to hear the trip was great and you had a good time meeting Bill Gates. What great pictures! We'll continue to pray that you don't have any serious issues with the chemo and continue to have no cancer in the bone marrow biopsies. We think of you often. You've been such great friends to us! Hi Will,
Since "someone" did not tell me about your "little" wellness sidestep until yesterday, I have a good excuse for not writing until today. Since it sounds like you have already received too many gifts (and I have not worked for over 5 months waiting for our government to give me another job), I will limit my gift to you to a few words of encouragement for you to continue your steady path to total recovery and a long and healthy life. Also, against your father's recommendations, I still would not drink the tap water!!! That was a bonus gift from me to you...keep the change.

Jill and Will,
It was so good to run into you at Emanuel the other day! You both look fantastic! Will, thanks for sharing how they took out your central line. Now I know what to expect when it's Joshie's turn! Hopefully, it will be soon!

I'm so happy to hear about your Make A Wish with Bill Gates! What an awesome day that will be! Keep on doing as great as you are! Way to go! Maybe we'll run into you again some time.

Hey William,

It's your crazy Uncle Pat! I heard the great news about your "Make a Wish" being granted. That is waaaaaaaaaaaaay cool!! My family and co-workers will be so envious of you!

I had some minor nose and throat surgery this week to help improve my nose breathing and improve my sleep. I'm off from work for a week, and in general discomfort. While I was sitting around this weekend feeling somewhat sorry for myself, I thought about how you would deal with this: chin up, stay positive and smile = "WILL POWER"! Thanks for the motivation to feel better. Take care, bud!

Hi Will,

What at GREAT day for you (May 13th) as all your classmates from the Sunset 5th grade leadership class came to run around the track in your honor to help raise funds for cancer research! I will always remember this day.

Some highlights for those who couldn't see this awesome display of peer support:

1. Over 65 fifth graders ran track laps (averaging 9-11 laps per student)on a very hot and humid afternoon.

2. The girls started on one side and the boys were on the other so they got to "compete" to see who ran the most laps.....of course it was basically a tie...with the boys asking around every lap if they were ahead of the girls or not. (a good motivator to forge on)

3. There were green and yellow "Will Power" signs made and before and after the race the girls yelled "Will" and the boys screamed "Power".....again, the boys asked if they won that contest too!

4. Your cousin Ryley reached (and succeeded) his goal of running 11 laps just for you!

5. The local organization "Good Deeds" did a very good deed and donated custom "Will Power" water bottles so every kid who participated could go home with something special and memorable....and also they could drink lots of water from it during the actual race. Thanks Greg and Peter!

6. Finally, the early estimates are that they may have raised over $500.00 from the kids. The more laps they ran, the more money they raised and it was a tough challenge.

Even though the kids were hot, sweaty and tired at the end I could just see it in their faces that they felt really good about doing something for others which is the best lesson I believe the students learned this afernoon.

Thanks to all the teachers (especially Ms. Kalihi) for taking the time to both organize and RUN in the event.....what great role models you are for your students. And thanks to Ms. Ludwig (our principal) for coming to the event as well. I'm so proud to be a parent of two boys at Sunset school and this event reminds me of the greatness of community involvement and basic human genorosity.

On behalf of all the families, THANK YOU for everyone's on-going support for Will.

Aunt Julie

Dear Will, We're glad to hear you are unplugged. You were so good about taking care of the Hickman. You turned into a real pro. Now you have to be a real man, taking your blood test the hard way with a needle in the arm. We have no doubt that you are up to it.
Latest on Roxie. 2:30 this morning Grandpa woke up to some commotion. It seems she was having a great time in my closet playing with a RAT she brought in . As Grandpa went to get a plastic bag to put the rat in, Rainie, theyounger schnauzer thought it might be fun to play with also. Finally the rat was in the bag and on the way to rat heaven. Nighttime always is interesting in our home, Did Patrick like his bracelets?

Hi Will.

I heard of your bravery on dentaltown. We got to hear about how strong you are and how your family is really holding it together with lots of love and hugs and laughing and friends. I think that is really great. I had cancer when I was 24. I had an operation when I was 25 that took it out of my body. But, it was scary and sometimes things would hurt a lot.

Here's the great part. I had three small kids at the time. I always knew that I would be with my kids and my parents and my sisters and my friends through the good days and the not-so-fun days. Sometimes I wanted to be alone, but they didn't let me get sad. They made me laugh, sing, paint, and even go swimming when I did not feel like it.

I am 37 years old this year. I am healthy and time has flown by. You need to think about what great things you will do when all this has flown by you. Dream big. Once you've been through cancer, you will find all obstacles in your life NOTHING. You are an amazing guy. Keep a hobby going. Keep a journal. It will be an inspiration to you and your family years from now. One day, your kids will know how brave and strong you were during this time in your life and be so proud.

We are all praying for you. Keep strong. If you ever need or just want anything, let someone know. We will try to make it happen. No promises. I mean, if you ask for a Ferrari, I will tell you to go jump in a lake, but if you need a pen pal, a special DVD, a care package of Double Stuff Oreos and some comic books... email me and I will do my best.

I am proud of you. Maybe you can go to a Townie Meeting with your Dad next year. I could use a cute dance partner. =)

Love and hugs,

Rebecca

Dear Will, Roxie is at it again. Two birds this week. One in the living room and another in our bedroom. Grandpa is getting very handy with the vacuum cleaner. Feathers everywhere and the bells don't seem to alarm the birds. Grandpa's hair is growing too. Of course not as thick as yours. Enjoy going back to a fairly normal life, if there is such a thing. Greetings Will, I am so glad you are doing well and are back at school. I bet it is good to get back into the old routine. As a true Irishman, I was more than impressed with your St. Patrick's day photo. St. Patrick lived a long time ago before there were photographs, and now I am wondering if St. Paddy was bald as well. Dear Will, Roxie is at it again. Not birds this time. But... About 5:00 this morning grandpas woke up to hear a large book fall on the floor. Into our office he went to find Roxie in hot pursuit of a RAT that she apparently brought in and wanted to play with it for a while. It was hiding behind a bookcase. Grandpa grabbed a towel, picked it up and went for a plastic bag in order to dispose of the creature. Needless to say we, including the dogs, were up. Bells on Roxie's collar seemed to help the bird hunting, but now she has new prey. What a hunter!
Glad you blood test was great.

Will power bracelet's go on sale tomorrow (3/8) at Sunset school and we'll let you know when they're gone. Speaking of the bracelets, I was in Blockbuster video store over the weekend and the check out girl said, "Wow is that a Will Power bracelet? Where did you get it?" It's was kinda funny to hear that around town.

Talk to you later,
Aunt Julie

Hi Will - Just wanted to let you know that I bought a book at Borders with the gift card you sold me so you could buy that video game. The book is "Electric Universe - The Shocking True Story of Electricity" by David Bodanis, author of E =mc2. It's just the kind of book your mom would like after she reads "A Radar History of World War II".

Dearest William, My friend from high school, Dottie Michaels, sent you via us a whole bunch of costume hats to keep your hairless head decorated. I don't think they will keep you warm, but they will be fun to act silly with. Everybody is thinking of you and your recovery . We'll bring them to Sunriver so you can take them home to share with your friends. There's lots of them. I think there is a special one in the bunch that baby Jack would look great in. Maybe it's the pirate or the fire chief.
Love you, Grandma Midge

HI Will,
Happy first day of March!

We've had basically three weeks of beautiful sunshine which makes me happy for you because I know my sister (your Mom) will make you walk outside to get "fresh air".....it runs in the family.

Sorry to hear your'e not feeling very well lately and that your white blood cell counts are down again. This year will be like a roller coaster year for you with both ups and downs.

Some good news, the re-order of the popular "Will Power" wrist bands should be coming in REAL soon. You should see the waiting list that we already have of people wanting to buy one and help support cancer research. It's over 200 and growing daily.

Good things are happening because of you and because of the very good people that care.
Love you,
Aunt Julie and family

Dear William, When we were in Bend I bought some new artificial fruit for the bowl on the coffee table. The ones I had before Roxie, the cat, would scoot them out and Rainie, the dog, would try to eat these styrifoam objects. The new ones are heavier. Good luck. We are so greatful that your test continue to show all the good things that are going on in your body. I cleaned out a cupboard today and found some neat little math books on numbers. One shows "Curious Numbers" and another talks about "Short Cuts to Multiplying". We'll shares these with you up in Sunriver. We have some new pictures for your web page. We love you.

Dear Will,
Good seeing you yesterday. Good luck interviewing George Washington.
Some George trivia.
George Washington's teeth were NOT wooden. They were ivory and some metal.
George Washington gave the shortest inaugural speech of any president. He only had 1 of his own teeth and his false teeth hurt like too much to talk.

Enjoy the weather and get outside.
Sorry no jokes, yet I am doing this after the kids already left.

Dear Will,
I had no idea you were a poker player. Maybe I should be, or maybe you should be, tutoring in various poker games and strategies. You'd probably be good at "guts" because you have lots of guts and WIll Power. I hope you are feeling better because I could tell you felt yucky the other day. I'm so impressed on how you did not complain and still worked on math and colonial history.

You and your brother are two very special boys. I am so lucky to know your family and work with you and Patrick. It's kids like you that help make my job the best job in the world.

Enjoy the long weekend with Patrick. Keep track of your reading minutes to be part of the big school challenge. Help be a big brother and remind Patrick too.

I'll see you next week. I'll check out Lance Armstrong's book after I finish my current one.

I have not had the chance to meet you, but I know your dad, I am one of his most famous dental patients. I think I have spent more time in his dental chair then anyone in town. I was taking a little break from the drill this month, and did not see your dad this past month or hear the news about you. I just finished your article in the West Linn Tidings. It sounds like you are doing great, I am so happy to hear it. I can't wait to get some Will Power bracelets for my 4 daughters (also all your dad's patients) Well just wanted to know you have a fan club. I loved the photos, you definitely have started a trend. Hi Will,

What a FUN event at the Superbowl party!

FYI...For those of you who have asked:
We also got the new highly anticipated green and yellow "Will Power" wrist bracelets that The Weinhart Family so graciously ordered brought to the party and we already sold out, with the exception of 90 bracelets that we brought to Sunset Elementary school for them to sell as a school project.

Please contact Shay Noffsinger at Sunset Elementary if you'd like or buy some and, of course, ALL proceeds go to cancer research. Shay's number at Sunset School's is (503) 673-7214. There are 60 small size and 30 large (adult) and the cost is $5.00 each. I have never seen a multi-colored band before (certainly all the Oregon Duck fans that I know have noticed and love them already)and they are pretty cool.

Hopefully Jill and David (Will's parents) will be able to order more based on demand so let us know if you want to help support cancer research, Will and sport a new fun band around your wrist!

Any other questions can be written via this website and we'll answer them as soon as we can.
Thanks,
Julie (Will's Aunt)

Will and fellow "Hair-a-Thon" participants --

Got the hair cut yesterday.
It is a "buzz" (no skin) cut.
It has not been this short since I was 8. Doesn't look too bad; Emily & Rebecca thought it would be much worse.

Interesting story when I got my hair cut though. I go to this kind of old fashion barbershop (ie - red & blue spiral barber pool, car & hunting magazines, dead animals on the wall, etc.) I told my barber (Sam) to "take it all off"; he asked me why, so I explained. He proceeded to tell me about his twin brother who died of leukemia 30 years ago at the age of 19. Sam does fundraising work for the Leukemia Society of Michigan.

I told Sam to make it look good and closed my eyes. He didn't shave it because it would have looked terrible.

Sam says the haircut was free, but he was going to donate my fee to the Leukemia Society, so I gave an extra big tip (plus I won't be seeing him for awhile.)

So my hair goes for Will, Peter (Sam the barber's brother), and all young people who are fighting this disease.

Emily & Rebecca say hello. They want to get WILL POWER bracelets.

Take care, stay strong, ours prays are with you.

PS - Is Pat Dwyer shaving his head??

Will,

I came up with this great idea of not shaving my head. It seems I can't face the music having a job interview Tuesday at Seaworld. Guess some people are just afraid to face Shamu without hair. It's a Samson thing. I see your dad says that your are replacing some hair now. Great, then you can look like everyone else and then you can catch up with me. Hang in there bud, Don G, Kissimmee.

Hey William (and your band of freshly shaven head shoney's),

Great news that you are doing so well! Please ask your dad to post or e-mail me a picture of him, freshly shaven of course, posing like "Dr. Evil" with either you or a cousin playing "mini-me". If he does it, I will definitely have my brother Steve make copies at his printing company and send them to everyone who wants them. I think it would be a hot ticket! Take care...

In less than 24 hours, many of your friends and family will share shiny new heads with you Will! How exciting and lucky you are to know that so many people support and love you.

Someday when you get older and re-read all these pages from your guestbook and journal entries, you will need to figure out a way to "give back" to others in need because of remembering the way it made you feel better. The cycle of reaching out then continues and grows.

As your Aunt (and official video-photographer during tomorrow's Super Bowl Shave Off party),I will help document this wonderful piece of history. It will be great fun to look back on and laugh. Seeing you smile makes this all worth it to everyone who supports you. Will Power!!!

WOW! I knew you were a strong kid and could do amazing things. The marrow test results has made my day - no it made my weekend and more. Maybe I'll trim my hair; I've already done the no hair thing eight years ago. Smile for the camera tomorrow because I want to see you and all the bald folks in the paper.

Happy weekend and be nice to Patrick.

TGIF!!!! I am on my way to play basketball with my co-teachers after school! I will think of your spirit to get me in the right shooting frame of mind!

It is actually supposed to hit 50 degrees today! SHOCK for February! We will see how long THAT lasts!!!

Who do you think is going to win the SUPERBOWL??? I want the Eagles, but me thinkst that the Pats might slip by..barely though. Keep track of the final score. If the "ones" digit totals 6, I win one of my pools! [that is if the score is 30-6, or 21-35, and so on, I win!].

Have a SUPER day!

hey Will, It is Katia. i have got some jokes for you ( it is the joke books fault if they are lame):
Bob: i have a problem. My doctor gave me pills for my insomnia, but i haven't taken them yet
Jim: Why not?
Bob: because he said to take them before i go to sleep

Teacher: what is a metaphor (medow for) ?
Kid: It is for sheep to go there and eat grass

Bob: i asked my mom to buy a new pair of sneakers for gym
Fred: what did she say
Bob: she said to tell Jim to buy his own

Bob: We have a hard life. Every day my two brothers and i have to milk our fathers 200 cows so we have to divvy up the milking
Jim: that sounds difficult
Bob: it got easier when my dad bought 100 more
Jim: why is that easier with more cows to milk?
Bob: even a fool can devide 300 by 3!

I don't want to go through the whole book. I will give you more tomorrow.

Hi Will,

You probably don't remember me but we met at your dad's Rotary Club, where I am also a member. Like your Uncle Pat, I am also a "Cheesehead", although I live in Oregon. I grew up in Wisconsin, so I was a huge Packer fan when I was your age. They were THE football team in that era, so it was great fun to be a fan. I still cheer for them and also for the Wisconsin Badgers, as I'm sure your relatives in Wisconsin do. Your dad and I often joke about which of our teams are better - the Ducks or the Badgers. I also get beat up at home because my wife and daughter are both Ducks. From the other entries in the guestbook, it sounds like you are a huge Duck fan as well. I suppose Dad doesn't give you much choice, but good for you. It's really great to follow a team and give them your support, isn't it?

I can tell from your log that you've been through a lot, and I know that's been tough for you, but I can also tell from reading the guestbook that a whole bunch of people care about you and are giving you their support. Like them, I would like to wish you a speedy and complete recovery.

All the best, Will.

Dearest Will, I was just beginning to worry and looked on the Caring Bridge and found out that thngs went well today. You certainly are a brave guy. One of my ladies groups met today (PEO) and all 27 of them are with you also. One of them went to school with your dad and she'll be writing you. Roxie is still exhausted from her night in the cage. She is not that excited about roaming. Grandpa is planning the picture taking expedition on Sunday. I think he's even going to reashave his head. I never thought I would like to be married to a bald headed man, but right now I love it because it shows how much he loves you. I could dye my hair green if that would make you feel better. I think I'll wait for the the "Civil War" game instead or just keep in yellow like now. Decisions, lots of decisions. Rosie and Raine will get their hair cut tomorrow for the occasion. We'll add that to the photo album. We'll have lots of new pictures for your fans to see next week. We can only put 3 on at a time so we'll change them during the week ending with our favorites. Maybe people could vote for their favorites. These could stay till the next photo shoot at the end of February. See you Saturday. Love, Grandma Midge

Last Sunday we went sledding in the sort of bob sled track my son David made on his back yard. Dearest Will, The further adventures of Roxie, the cat. Last night I went to bed at about 9:00 to curl up with a good book. Grandpa came to bed just as I was turning my light out. I mumbled that I hadn't seen her. She ususally comes in to say goodnight before her nocturnal roaming. Well, she didn't. About 11:00 when I was fast asleep Grandpa got up and dressed and with his handy flash light he went over to our nextdoor neighnbor's yard to check their 'possum trap and there she was caged. He immediately released her, knocked on "Trapper Tom's" door and announced that the can of tuna was gone. This was not a happy kitty and she was glad to be home and purred all night and slept all day. Who knows what tonight will bring. We're looking forward to Sunday. Grandpa will take pictures for the whole world to see the 14+ bald headed guys in tribute to "Will Power". See you Saturday. Love Grandma Midge

Hey William or should I call you "Mr. 3000",

This is your crazy Uncle Pat checking in. I just saw that you went over 3000 hits on your web page. That is phenomenal! You certainly have a lot of fans out there rooting for you.

Anyway, the weather here has been a bit more tolerable with highs at least in the 30's. Even though I was born here, I don't at all like the cold weather and try to go outside as little as possible. Your Aunt Amy calls me a whimp, but she is crazy going out for runs when it's 3 degrees out! While I was outside the other day and saw something that reminded me of a saying my mom used to tell me as a kid when I used to actually enjoy playing in the cold and snow. I saw the part of the yard where Aunt Amy has been letting Hershey "do her thing". Instantly the words of my mom came into my head: "never eat yellow snow"! Well, big guy, those are my words of wisdom for you today.

Hang in there and keep smiling, and whatever you do, "never eat yellow snow"! You better tip your brother off on that one too, cause I could see him doing it...

Will, I'm glad you are getting to do some fun things in spite of having treatments and tests. I was thinking about playing football near the blackberries with you and your friend at the last Duck home game. I was also thinking about another time when you were probably about two years old and your mom and dad brought you down to Eugene to our house, to see Tommy (about Patrick's age). Going on an overnight visit sounds like fun. I like camping trips, and sleeping in tents, or visiting other people and sleeping on the floor, or on the sofa. Hi Will and Renton Family,
Well, my legs are very sore, and that is a good sign for you because that means that I have been to my first Team in Training run on Saturday. I ran 6 miles. That's right, I signed up for the Oregon Chapter Leukemia and Lymphoma societies Team in Training for you. So what does all of this mean? It means that I am going to run the Race for the Roses half marathon in your honor, while attempting to raise $2,500 for the Oregon Chapter of Leukemia and Lymphoma. I have sent out a letter to the Fisher family and friends to try and raise money. I'll keep you in the loop on how it goes. If all goes according to plan, I would also like to train for the Portland marathon in your honor. You are such a motivation in my daily life, because whatever soreness or daily glitches I encounter I just think you!! I have made a special letter telling your story and how you inspire me, as well as a web site for people to visit and donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society (Oregon Chapter). My web site is http:/www.active.com/donate/tntor/tntorCHook. If you would like a copy of the letter I sent to my family I would be happy to give you a copy. Please take care, and know that you are in my daily thoughts and activites.

Dear Will,
I so glad to see that you continue to do well. I think of you all the time and am constantly sending you healing thoughts. I was wondering if you could get rid of your parents some evening so I could come hang with you; I also thought you could show me how to play on your X-BOX.

When I was real sick I really enjoyed books on tape. Let me know if you are interested and I'll pick some up for you. My eyes had a hard time tracking and I use to fall asleep when I read, yet I so enjoyed the books when read to me.

Let me know what foods you like to eat since I'll probably keep bringing stuff that no one wants. I have a great bakery around the corner. What do you like with your sourdough?- soup, jam, peanut butter??? I know some foods, even the thought of them, make you feel sick. I think I survived from smoothies and very plain crackers - sounds gross now.

It's Ms. Kalihi. I've been reading your updates everyday and I'm so thrilled to hear how well you're doing!!! You rock, kiddo! We miss you so much - class isn't the same without you. Your mom came by the other day and let me know that pretty soon, you'll start coming back to school a little at a time. That's terrific! Your friends and classmates will be so happy! On another note, your parents have probably told you I'm training for a triathlon in your honor. I'm a little nervous about it (I've never done anything so physically demanding) but I'm also really, really excited about it, too. I had my first Team in Training practice, and I'll tell you, it was very exhilerating to be in the company of 55 people all working towards two main goals of training for the triathlon and raising money for the Leukemia Lymphona Society. It felt very empowering. I'll keep you updated on my progress. Keep being strong and courageous... you're an inspiration to me, kiddo!

As we start my day, I want you to know that we are thinking of you and send you all of our positive thoughts and prayers.

I saw Coach Paul Taylor last night, and he was asking about you. He wants to stop by and see you sometime in the next few weeks.

Be well, be strong, and make sure that you give your mom and dad a big hug and kiss today.

Jill and Will,
It was good to see you at the clinic on Tuesday. Your crew cut looks great, Will! Did your dad cut his hair too? Thanks for showing Josh how to play the video game. I'm learning, as Josh is our only boy and he's just 4. It's a whole new world for this mom!

Great to hear you all are getting a second opinion. It does help. We did the same.

We are off to LLUMC on Saturday for Joshua's proton treatments. So we won't see you at Emanuel for a couple of months. We are going to miss our favorite nurses, our Child Life friend, Jen and Kristina, our art therapist!

We pray all goes well for Will and the Renton family. Hang in there.

Dearest Will,
Roxie hasn't brought in any feathers since we've been home. Maybe the two bells are working or the birds are getting smarter. I went to a Rogue Community College meeting today and everybody asked about you and they really care about your progress. Grandpa really looks funny with no hair. When I married him 48 years ago tomorrow I was so glad that he wasn't bald headed like his dad. I guess I had to wait to see it when he really had a reason to have his head shaved. You were that wonderful reason. As we all know all of you will gradually get it all back. If you are anything like your dad by the time you are a teenager it might be shoulder length. Not a problem. Have a wonderful time at Dillon birthday party!!
A joke that adults might get better than you guys.
What happen when you sit on a stereo? You might get steroids.
Love you always, Grandma Midge

Will,
Here is a Riddle:
it's called, RUMPELSTILKSON!!!
Read it very slowly-

There was a boy named Johnny. It was the Middle of the School Year when Johnny said to his friend Susie, "Hi, i'm RUMPELSTILKSON!!" as a joke. Susie Screamed sooo
loud and went and told the teacher. "Johnny,", she said," I am very dissapointed in you."
"Why?" asked Johnny.
"Well, didn't you say, ... (whisper) Rump, rump, rupelsti- you know."
"What. is RUMPELSTILKSON a bad word?"
"I'm going to call the principal, Johnny."

So, I went to the Principals office, and she asked me if I had said, the "R" word. I said, "Ya, RUMPELST-
"Stop!!! Thats enough!
So She called my mom and my mom came and asked me the exact same question. So she took me Home and called my Dad. Johnny, he, he, he said, the R word!!!
" Gasp!!!!!!!!!! Oh, I wouldn't want to be Johnny When i get home. I'll be right home to take care of our son.
So, he came home and i asked him,"What does RUMPELSTIL-
Stop!! thats enough!
so, what does it mean?
That doesn't matter.I'm going to have to call the police.
The Police came, and asked me if I said the R word. I said yes and they took me to Jail. Except, on the way there, I jumped out of the car. I was in Downtown, Portland. All of the Sudden, the Pay phone Rang, so i answered it. I said, Hello?
Hello. Hey, arn't you the boy, who told Susie RUMPELSTILKSON, who told the teacher, who told the Principal, who told your mom, who told your dad, who called the police? Oh, By the way, I'm RUPELSTILKSON!
YA!!! Thats me!!! Hey, Do you know what that word Means?
AS a Matter of Fact, I do! If you look across the street, that's me. So, why don't you come over across the street and I'll tell you.
So, Johnny ran across the street and did not look before he crossed, and got hit by a car.

The Moral of the story is:

LOok before you cross the street!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny, Ha Ha.

Hey Will-man! You know what is awesome [besides you, of course]? So many others are reaping strength and blessings from this website. It really touches my heart to see my in-laws and friends sending you love. It's just cool. So, thanks for that gift. And thank you for the gift of my relationship with you. You should see how much I love all of my family...there is nothing better. It is awesome.

Loving you, thinking of you and wishing I was there to tease you a bit...let me know when the X-Box gets there.

Hi Will - Check out the new photo. It was taken last night at the Grants Pass vs Ashland basketball game. Grants Pass rated #3 in the state won 52-39. The team captain, Jake Dastrup, anounced over the radio coverage that the game was dedicated to Will Renton and the team hollered "Will Power" along with hanging the poster you can see in the picture. It looks like that "Will Power" can go a long way.
Keep up tour spirit.

Hi William a.k.a. Will Power (I love that name). I am the dad of your second cousin Alexandra Stassi. Let me explain the connection. I am married to your Aunt Amy's husband's sister Jean (sister of Patrick Dwyer). Our daughter is Alexandra. So if Alexandra and Madelyn are cousins, that would make you and Alexandra second cousins, and thus, we are part of your family. Nice to meet you over the web. I am very impressed by your website. I can tell a whole lot of people really love you and care about you. I'm thrilled for you that you're home now, and even got to have a sleep over at Dillons house. Alex loves to have sleep overs and loves even more going to sleep overs.

My message to you is one I thought of after I talked to God this morning about you. And that message is about the power of the smile, and the power of laughter. These two things have the power to make people feel better. The more that we smile and the more that we laugh, the more we feel better. So as much as you can, smile and laugh, smile and laugh, smile and laugh. When other people see you smiling and laughing it will make them feel better too.

I hope to meet you some day and give you a huge hug. You are now one of my hero's for your courage and bravery. I will be sending your web site to some of my friends, so don't be suprised by people sending you notes that you've never met before. Take care, and many people that I know will have you in their prayers. Take care.

Dear Will,
Sorry for missing yesterday. We'll make up for it by passing along SUPER lame jokes today. We think of you often and can't wait to find out about the WILL POWER bracelets.

From Ben:
What did the boy throw butter out the window?
He wanted to see butterfly. (ha ha)

From Bryndon:
Why did the boy throw the clock out the window?
He wanted to see time fly! (ha ha)

From Colby:
Why did Piglet look in the toilet?
He wanted to see Pooh. (ha ha)

From Cassie:
How do you make a tissue dance?
You put some buggie into it! (ha ha)

From Kevin:
Rick and Dick were done eating lunch. Rick went to the cashier and paid the cashier the money. Dick went to the cashier and gave her a slip of paper. It had the number 1004180. The cashier person studied it for a moment and then let Dick pass.
WHY?
Answer: The number 1004180 stands for "I owe nothing for I ate nothing".

From Quentin:
What room has no floor, no walls and no windows?
Answer: A mushROOM.

Untill tomorrow.

Connie and all the great kids in Room 23.

Will, my name is Donna Gomena. My sons, Ben and Sam, are in third grade at Sunset and know your cousin Kevin. When I saw your story in the Sunset newsletter, I remembered how irritating it is to be sick and how boring hospitals can be. I'm going to think good thoughts about you every day in the hope that you will keep your strength up and fight hard to get well.

Also, allow me to pass along a few stale, old jokes.

***

THINGS WE CAN LEARN FROM A DOG (not a joke, really, but fun and true)

Never pass the opportunity to go for a joyride

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them

When it's in your best interest, practice obedience

Let others know when they have invaded your territory

Take naps and scratch before rising

Run, romp, and play daily

Eat with gusto and enthusiasm

Be loyal

Never pretend to be something you're not

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle her/him gently

Thrive on attention and let people touch you

On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree

When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body

No matter how often you are scolded, don't buy into the guilt and pout.....run right back and make friends

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk

***

A man was driving along a freeway when he noticed a chicken running along side his car. He was amazed to see the chicken keeping up with him because he was doing 50 MPH.
He accelerated to 60 and the chicken stayed right next to him. He sped up to 75 MPH and the chicken passed him up. The man noticed the chicken had three legs.

He followed the chicken down a road and ended up at a farm. As he got out of his car, he noticed all the chickens had three legs. He asked the farmer "What's up with these chickens?"

The farmer said "Well, everybody likes chicken legs. I bred a three legged bird. I'm going to be a millionaire."

The man asked him how they tasted.

The farmer said "Don't know, haven't caught one yet.

A turtle named Herman is walking through the forest one day. A gang of snails beats him up and leaves with several cuts and bruises.
Several hours later he gathers up enough strength to go to a local police station.

"What happened to you? the officer asks.

"A gang of snails beat me up," Herman replied.

"Can you describe what they looked like?"

"I don't know," the turtle said. "It all happened so fast."

***

One day in the forest, three animals were discussing who among them was the most powerful.
"I am," said the hawk, "because I can fly and swoop down swiftly at my prey."

"That's nothing," said the mountain lion, "I am not only fleet, but I have powerful teeth and claws."

"I am the most powerful," said the skunk, "because with a flick of my tail, I can drive off the two of you."

Just then a huge grizzly bear lumbered out of the forest and settled the debate by eating them all. . . . hawk, lion, and stinker.

***

Things Cats Must Try To Remember.....

If I bite the cactus, it will bite back.

Screaming at the can of food will not make it open itself.

The canned cat food is already dead. I do not need to kill it by swatting bits of it all over the floor.

If I play 'dead cat on the stairs' while people are trying to bring in groceries or laundry, one of these days it will really come true.

If I put a live mouse in my food bowl, I should not expect it to stay there until I get hungry.

It is not a good idea to try to lap up the powdered creamer before it all dissolves in the boiling coffee.

Television and computer screens do not exist to backlight my lovely tail.

Upon entering the little country store, the stranger noticed a sign saying "DANGER! BEWARE OF DOG!" posted on the glass door. Inside he noticed a harmless old hound dog asleep on the floor beside the cash register.
He asked the store manager, "Is THAT the dog folks are supposed to beware of?"

"Yep, that's him," he replied.

The stranger couldn't help but be amused. "That certainly doesn't look like a dangerous dog to me. Why in the world would you post that sign?"

"Because," the owner replied, "before I posted that sign, people kept tripping over him."

Dear Will,

Well, you don't know me either but I know your grandma Midge. She is a great friend of ours here at Rogue Community College. You are very fortunate to have such a wonderful woman for a grandma.

We heard about your ordeal from her and I just wanted to personally tell you that me and my family have entered your name in our family prayer journal so we will remember to pray for you at least once per week.

Its great to hear the good news about you being back home. The lap top sounds very cool. Hope you enjoy the messages from your family and friends and people you don't even know, like me, who are praying for God's great love and healing power in your life right now.

Whenever I have any kind of problem I think about my favorite Bible verse: Psalm 39:10 - Be still and know that I am God. That kinda tells me that no matter what I am going through, He's (God) got my back.

I heard about the big ice storm you had up there a couple of weeks ago. Well, down here in Palm Springs we were having some beautiful warm sunny days. I really like living here a lot. I hope you can come here sometime, I think you would also like it. We are pretty close to San Diego and Los Angeles, so sometimes I go there and see different sights. I even went to Disneyland. I hadn't been there since I was a little boy.
I do miss Sunset a lot. And, ofcourse I enjoyed the day you were principal with me. You were one of my best!
Please take care and get better.
Love,
Mr Montalbano

This is your Uncle Dennis from Michigan. Not to be outdone by the Dwyer Family, but it was 0 degrees last night and snowed 6 inches (it is still snowing.) I just got done doing the most fun chore any kid (including 42 year old kids) can do -- using a snow blower to clear the snow off the driveway. It is loud and sprays snow all over the place, but very productive. I will probably have to do it again this afternoon.

As a Renton man, I to pledge my hair to WILL POWER. That makes me #9. Let's get this HAIR-A-THON up to 50 people.

Stay strong, your are in our thoughts and prayers.

Will, your dad got us into your web page, so now we can add to the wonderful messages that everyone has been sending to you. Guess that shows how much we all care about you. Bapa and I probably won't get to see you if you are expected to be in the hospital through Sunday. We shall be gone this Monday to Feb. 3.
Ryley and Kevin and Drew were over at our place after school. It was close, but Kevin beat me at Scrabble. He loves to play games and so do I When you are back home and are looking for something to do BESIDES play station, maybe you'd like to play Scrabble or Clue or cards So that your mom can go to the gym, I'll come over and keep you company. Popcorn sound good while we play?

Much love and much prayers.

Dear Will and the rest of the Renton Family,
I wrote to you awhile ago (my son Andrew also had leukemia and he is now an 8th grader at Rosemont) Your dad is our dentist. I'm sorry to hear that you had to go back into hospital, it must be disappointing but it's very "normal" to have to go in for unexpected fevers. It's a bit like being on a roller coaster - there are times when you want to get off, but you can't and you have to see it through to the end with all the ups and downs that it entails - but there is an end in sight, and you can think about all the wonderful things you'll be able to do when your treatment is over.
We are thinking about you and sending you many positive thoughts so that you can come home from hospital soon.

Our daughter Madison is a first grader at Sunset. I looked at the pictures of you and your family. You all look very familiar, maybe we have seen you in West Linn. It looked like you were at a Duck's football game in one of the pictures. Our son plays football for West Linn High School. What sports do you play? My husband, Rich, just told me you play baseball. He's the president of the league this year and says he looks forward to you being out on the ballfield again soon! I love your slogan, "Will Power!" Keep that Will Power going! Hi Will,
Hope your stay up at Emanuel isn't too long this time -- I'm sure their cheese pizza gets a little old... Did you get the same room? You sure had some great posters and artwork from your family and friends in the last room. Hopefully that puts a smile on your face every now and then. Your dad directed us to a great little sandwich shop on the first floor after our visit with you last week. Be sure to try the ham & brie on wheat - it totally rocks! Although, if you're anything like my boys, the mere mention of brie(cheese)makes you queasy, and you don't need that. So, sorry... forget the sandwich idea and stick with the pizza!! And remember, 'Where there's a WILL, there's a way!'... A way to beat this thing!! We all continue to pray for you... WILL POWER!!

Hello Will,
This is Ms. Brunner at Sunset School, one of the 4th grade teachers. I had Dillon Silva in my class for 2 years and it seemed like I accumulated so many bus passes for him to come to your house after school. I used to say to him, when he handed me one, "Now, let me guess. . .you are going to Will Renton's house!". We would smile. He loved to go and visit you.
I'm supposed to be doing my school work. I'm sitting at my desk, as the children have all gone home today, but I was really thinking about you. I miss seeing you in the hallway. I am so sorry that you are sick. I want you to know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers. I love the WILL POWER thing too! Anyway, just wanted to drop you a note and say hello. Hey, Will,
How are you doing? Sorry you had to go back to the hospital. Hope you're feeling better than the other night. Dillon got the game "Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction." It's really cool; if it was two-player, we'd be kicking your butt! At recess today, I hit Garrett and he fell on the ground. He called me a retard, then Dillon told him he was in no position to call ME a retard. I kicked Garrett in the foot over and over. We laughed and laughed. Homework today sucks!! We had to write IN CURSIVE (!) the meanings of 13 words for the first three chapters of the new book we're reading: My Brother Sam is Dead. Katie says it's a good book, but what does she know??

Hope to see you soon!

Hi Will! Don't know if you remember us, we live across the street in the white house with a red door. The Lambs. Didn't know you are a big shot swimmer. I was a big shot swimmer in my time - not really great anymore. Would love to see your stuff this summer at the hidden springs pool! I see you like jokes too, my little guy Jack loves knock-knock jokes so I will have him pick some out for you. Keep in mind, he is only 5 and they may be a little lame! Ok, a lot lame, but they just MAY get you to giggle! Hope you got some good stuff for your birthday! Wow! You are getting old! I can remember you and Patrick playing with Jake Poska down in that creek thingy next to our house like it was only yesterday! I'm guessing you're a little taller now! Tell your mom and dad that I'm thinking about them too and pray for healing for all of you! Hang in there! Love, the Lambs

Hi Will---

We've known you and your family since way back, when your Mom and I met at a Moms' play group for kids (Emma and Patrick were around 9 months old). Your Dad plays golf with Jim sometimes too. Do you remember when we brought our dog, Betsy (a Boston Terrier---just like your Angie), when she was a puppy, to visit you? You all gave her so much attention! We loved getting all the puppy advice. Well, we heard about your illness, and we want you to know we are thinking of you, and wishing you a quick recovery!! With such wonderful parents, a cool brother, caring grandparents, wonderful family and friends (not to forget all the kids at Sunset that care for you too) to support you----we are sure you are going to get better soon! We'll use the slogan your Aunt Julie uses and think "Will Power" from now on!! You are soooo brave! Love to you and your family.

From Tabby:
How many cockroaches does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Answer: You can't count them because they scatter. (ha, ha,ha)

From Emma:
What did one candle say to the other:
Answer: Do you want to go out with me tonight? (ha, ha, ha)

We all hope you are soon home again.

Will,

Ask Grampa Bill about the internet gaming adaptor. You just need a high speed internet and a X-box or PS2 adaptor to link your game to another player to play on the internet. I am not sure if it will work at the hospital? You have to let me know what you decided what you want for Birthday?

Love you! Uncle PETE

When you get better, you can go swimming in the hot lava water at the camping site you, Patrick, Uunt Chelsea and I went last time. The waterfalls will also be massive in the late spring.

Hi Will- Sorry to hear that you are back in the hospital. Colby has a joke for you: Why didn't the shark eat the girl? Because it was a MANeating shark. Get it?? HA- HA- HA. Here's another: Why did it take so long for the lady to say good-bye to her pets? She had an ant farm. Do you get that one?? I didn't get it - Colby had to explain that there were a LOT of ants on the farm to say bye to. I'm a little slow...We are thinking about you and your family and hope that you are able to go back home really soon. Love and kisses!

Hello William,

I hear that you missed the hospital food so, so very much you had a temp of 103 degrees. Now I have been to many hospitals, and I must admit that the one reason to leave was because of the not so yummy food. I'm a cancer survivor, and as I have you will to. Keep smiling, and everything will get better....

Dearest Will, The computer is here and we'll be up with it on Thursday. Can't hardly wait for you to get on the internet.
More about Roxie and her bird catching. Grandpa put a collar on her that had a bell so the birds can hear her coming. It was one of those breakaway collars so she won't hang herself on a tree or fence if it got caught. McGills have been having problems with opposums digging up their back lawn looking for grub, so they put a live trap in their yard and a can of tuna fish in it. This morning they found the tuna eaten and Roxie's collar in the cage and the trap didn't go off. Pretty smart cat.
Get control of that temperature. Everyone wants you home.

Hey William,

It's your crazy Ucle Pat the "cheesehead"! Hope your birthday was fun. I heard that you had to head back to the hospital. That's not cool, but you have shown us all how tough you are so far, so I'll bet you are handling this all in stride. I learned early on that you just can't predict or control everything, so the best thing to do is stay positive and keep a smile on your face (your Aunt Amy is especially good at that!). Anyway, tell your nurses that Uncle Pat has ordered you extra helpings of pizza, popcorn and orange soda for your short stay (yum, yum, yum!). Take care and say hi to everyone.

Congratulations on going home! I met your Dad while our 4 yr old son Joshua was receiving chemo. You have a great family and many friends that love you and are supporting you every step along the way. Please know we will be praying for you!

I just returned from the hospital tonight. Joshua was running a fever so he is back in the hospital. This is a battle that is extremely difficult but we will continue to fight. Stay strong in this marathon and you will be a winner.

Dear Will,

This is Aunt Julie and the whole gang again!

We have decided on a new daily saying for you....WILL POWER!!! (Hey this could be a new slogan for those yellow plastic rubber braclets that Lance Armstrong invented!)

We will say it every single day as a reminder of our strength and belief in you, just like everyone else who so graciously takes the time out of their busy lives to write to you. They believe in you too and have "the will" to see you beat this illness.

Along those lines.....I must say a huge THANK YOU (on behalf of our big extended family) to everyone who has written you such great notes, jokes and amazing stories. It means a LOT to our family and I personally have read every single message (along with Will). Keep 'em coming as they are so inspirational to all of us as well as Will.

Today is a VERY big day for you, Will, since you are coming home from the hospital to your old familar room with airplane wallpaper and all....no more white, boring hospital walls!

Tomorrow will be an even bigger day since we get to celebrate your 11th birthday! I hope your like your room decorated with all the cards, posters and pictures from your friends and classmates. Your cousins worked hard on it to make it special for you upon your return.

FYI. I've put that long piece of string from one side of the wall to the other so that you can hang cards up and look at them while you're in bed. As new cards come in, you can add them to the "line of communication" until it's filled up. They're pretty fun to read!

Anyway, this is the longest note that I've typed to you so far, but I just wanted you to know how special we think you are and that we're glad that you are now home where you belong.
Love ya!

Will,
I was once a kid that grew up on the Oregon coast in Newport. I KNOW how nutty you Duck fans can be. I've read about your hospital visit from what your dad wrote on our dental web site. Just chiming in to say that a funny talking guy now from Oklahoma is rooting hard for you and your family. Many years from now you'll look back and see how many people cared about you. That's a very cool feeling.
I'm a "dog guy" too. That...really has...nothing...to...do...with...the...way..I...talk, just that I LIKE dogs.
Be well, amigo. I'll check on you in a couple days.

You don't know me, but I go to school with Elle, Brian and Matt D'amore at St. Johns. Your picture looks really familiar to me; maybe I've met you. Anyway, when I am sick, I think that the medicine that I am taking is like boxing players with boxing gloves going in my body fighting off everything that is bad in my body. I hope my imagination can help you with your sickness. And also believe that your medicine that you're taking is stronger than the bad things in your body. Anyway, when I go to mass I will pray for you. I will also say intentions in the morning at school for you. Your friend, Alex Rodenbeck

Will, I am a friend of your Dad's from college and have met you a few times when I flew up for football games. I even spent the night a few times in your guest bed room. This is my first time logging in and I am thrilled to hear you are doing so well. I bet you are looking forward to going home and sleeping in your own bed and seeing your pets. Hang in there and I look forward to logging in often as you get better. By the way, maybe you could get your Dad a meal to go from the hospitol cafeteria as you check out. I think he is pretending he is back in the college dorm cafeteria!

It was absolutely wonderful to see you on Tuesday. You looked great. Healthy, rosy complexion..... and an appetite to boot! Good for you! Peter, Jack and I are all looking forward to your return home. I am sure Angie, Daisy and that little trickster, Salem, will be so happy to see you. I will come be with you next week while your Mom goes to the gym. Hang in there!

Hi Will,
This is Chuck. I've been on cycle Oregon with your Dad and have met you when you've come to a Rotary Club meeting. I remember meeting your Grandfather also at a club meeting. Watching all the Star Wars movies sounds pretty good to me. I've been in the hospital a couple of times myself and I know that it is not a lot of fun but sometimes it is just what you have to do. Hang in there.

Hi Will. I'm another person that you don't know. My wife Frances and I are the parents of your mom and dad's friend, Jeff Sessions. Jeff has told us about your illness and treatment. I was a pediatrician before I retired and am old enough to have treated patients with leukemia before there were any cures for leukemia. I remember how amazed and thrilled I was when my first leukemia patient was cured. I know you have great doctors and nurses and are getting the best treatment available. Frances and I wish you and your parents and your brother the very best.

Hi Will,
This is Mr. Turnoy from Sunset School. As I am sure you know by now, everyone in the 5th grade at Sunset is very interested in how you are doing. We have been looking at the updates your parents write on your website each day, and we are very excited that you are making progress. You must be thrilled that you will get to come home soon.
I am also glad that so many of your friends and relatives have visited. Ryley is able to give us a lot of information because he comes to see you a lot, so that helps us keep informed.
I don't know if Ms. Kalihi told you this, but I had a student seven years ago who had a similar illness. She had treatments much like you, and she recovered. Today she is a senior in high school.
Try to keep thinking positively. You've got great medical care and lots of people who care about you. I look forward to hearing more good news about your progress.

Best of luck for a speedy recovery,
Mr. Turnoy

Hey William,

It's your crazy uncle Pat again. I'm just checking in and see that you've now had over 1000 hits on your web page!!! That is OUTSTANDING!!! It is also outstanding that you are doing so well with your treatments and are heading home on Saturday. That is great news!

I did notice that your Dad added a "crazy Ducks" picture on your web page, and saw that you were holding the imfamous "duck game duck". Make sure your Dad tells you the story again of how it was kidnapped at a Badger game and my brother Steve, your Dad's hero, had to go rescue it from a bunch of frat boys. I love that story. Anyway, if I don't talk to you on you birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Later, gator...

Will & family, Know that there are many that care for you and love you that won't stop fighting for you too. Just last May '04, a son of a very good friend of mine was diag w/AML and spent his days at Doernbecher through the summer and into the fall. It was a rough road for sure but he is now in remission, thank God, and we continue to pray that he stays on that path to better health. You, too, can beat this my friend. We'll have you all in our prayers. Live strong, be positive, hang tough, and keep smiling.

Good afternoon William,

It's Thursday, can you believe that? It seems that this week is going by so fast. How are you doing today? I hope you are doing great and getting better day by day. While I was at the Children's Hospital Oakland California last night, I told my friends there about you and they all said to say hello and to keep smilling. They all said for me to ask how's the food where you are at? And they hope it's better tasting food where you are at... Yummy Yummy...

Take care and I'll write more later...

Know that we'll have a Mass said for Will that he'll make a complete and quick recovery

Dear Will and the rest of the Renton family,
Your dad David is our family's dentist, we have been going to him for 13 years now and he's very good.....we all have nice healthy teeth! So when you were diagnosed he called me because my son Andrew (who is an 8th grader at Rosemont) also had leukemia. Andrew was four when he was diagnosed, and he's now 14, happy, healthy and CURED. He loves karate, cheese pizza and snowboarding. When he was in hospital all he wanted to eat was pizza too!
My job is to help people diagnosed with blood cancers, so I run a support group for families which you are most welcome to come to if you feel like it. We have a group for parents, a separate one for kids with cancer, and one for siblings that your brother could attend. There are also many activities offered through a group called Candlelighters for Children with Cancer - you would have an opportunity to meet other kids and do some fun things when you feel up to it.
I hope that once you are home and settled I will be able to bring Andrew to meet you - he can tell you about coping with chemo and being in hospital If your parents ever want to talk with me, I live near you and would be more than happy to help in any way that I can.
It sounds like you are a very strong young man, and I know that you are very loved and supported, so many people are fighting your cancer with you. Andrew and I will be thinking about you and sending you many positive thoughts to help you feel better soon.

Hey Will! I am Lauren Retzlaff, Dr. Doug's wife from Alabama. I just found out about this website from my friend Lillian Cupparo. She and her family go to y'alls church. I think you are the same age as Nick. I am so glad you have this set up so we can check on you. I have a very dear friend in Alabama whose daughter is going thru the same thing that you are. She has a web site, and I check it daily. So, this way my prayers can go to the South and to the Northwest.
We are waiting for you to get well enough, so we can have a "bowling challenge" among the Renton's and Retzlaff's. Your dad and Doug have duck balls, mine is leopard. Doesn't that sound like the kinda ball a southern girl would have???

How are you doing today? I hope you are doing better day by day. I want you to know, that I recieved a visit from someone very special today. You might know him as Uncle Pete. Uncle Pete has told me all about you and how proud he is of you. I'm a volunteer at Childrens Hospital in Oakland California, I've been volunteering for over four years now. I've been blessed to meet so many young people. And according to Uncle Pete and what he's told me about you, well lets just say, I know you are going to ok. And one day, many years from now, you will look back on these days and know that there was a lot of people all around you and around the world praying for you.

Hi Will,

You must be a pretty special young man for the whole US to be writing to you. My name is Penny Shoptaugh from Colorado Springs, CO. I work for Ultradent Products, a dental company. My co-worker Judi Galusha was telling me about you. I have a son at age 2 got bruises like your dad talked about, he was diagnosed with ITP, so I started relating to your story. 2 years ago, at 40, I was diagnosed with CUP, (carcinoma, unknown primary.) It's cancer, and they don't know where it started. I'm like you and Fear Factor, I think I'd have rather eaten the spiders. And I hate spiders!!!!. However honey, after 5 surgeries in 2 months, and 6 months of weekly chemotherapy, and a strong belief in God, we whipped this thing. I wasn't real fond of my wig one day, so I cut it. Gave myself a new haircut. Its hard for us because we weren't even feeling that bad, it's the chemo that makes us feel so yucky. But your beautiful pictures show me that you are ONE TOUGH BOY. You will get through this yucky time and be back to your old self soon. I know, I went through it and am back to my old routine. Lots of love and prayers to you. The worst part is over, just hearing that you have to go through all of this, now you're in the countdown stage until the chemo is over. It has been 2 years for me and already it is fading. Lots of love from Colorado. Penny Shoptaugh

Will, My name is George Jones, and I have talked w/ your dad on the dentaltown website that all us dental "geeks" like so much. I know exactly what your going through as my daughter Hannah had leukemia as a baby (23months old). I'm happy to tell you that she is now 8 years old and has been cancer free for nearly 6 years.

You are much bigger and stronger than she ever was during her fight with Leukemia, so I know you are going to whip this. Everyone seems to be telling you a joke so I'll see if I can get a laugh out of you also. Did you see my name, George Jones? I bet I have been given more nicknames in my lifetime than any other kid on the face of this earth. Don't think so? Let me see if I can recount some for you.

First the obvious--"Georgy Porgie", from the nursery rhyme.
then--"Jughead Jones", from the Archies
Also--"Georgie Girl", from some old song
"George of the Jungle"--this actually was a cartoon in my day, and at various times "George Jetson" or "George Jefferson"
then--"Chicken George"-from the movie Roots
that evolved into "Rooster" somehow during 6th grade
then came "Boy George"--Man I hated that guy
There is a famous, and not too pretty country music singer with the same name, so I've inherited some of his nicknames, so we can add "possum" and "no-show Jones" to the list.

then there the obvious, "Jorge, pronounced horhay" "jonesy"and a few I've probabily forgot, but my all time favorite nickname is "DAD"

Please get well soon!

Hello Will: You don't know me but I work with your uncle Dennis. He was telling me about your illness and I wanted to share some thoughts with you.

Cancer - Wow, what a scarry word. I know because I am a cancer patient. 8-years ago I was diagnosised with prostate cancer. I did everything the docters told me to do and had made up my mind from the very beginning that I was going to beat it and I did. No sign of a return for 8-years.

My docters tell me that fully 50% of the battle against any illness is having a positive frame of mind. Do what the docters tell you to do and keep a positive frame of mind and 10-years from now this will all be just an old memory. I can barely remember when I had prostate cancer.

Good luck!!!!

Dear Will,
We think of you every day and check in on your progress first thing every morning. We are so glad you are able to eat! We are thinking of jokes for you.

Joke from Hailey:
Why did the rooster cross the road?
Answer: Because the chicken was on vacation. (ha, ha, ha)

Joke from Bryndon:
Why were the eggs on America's Funniest Home Video:
Answer: Because they wanted to crack everyone up. (ha, ha,ha)

Joke from Ben:
Did the people laugh when the lady fell on the ice?
Answer: No, but the ice cracked up! (ha, ha, ha)

We miss you and sending you lots of wonderful thoughts and very goofy jokes. We are hoping you can get out of the hospital. Glad you can eat once more.

Hi Will,
I've been reading your dads posts every day and I'm so happy to hear you're doing better. I hate that you have this awful thing happening to you...it's not fair at all!! But...now you have to just fight it...and you will...because you sound to me like a very strong young man whose got some great family and friends to help! Keep thinking happy thoughts...that will help get you through. I know your dad from the dental website...we haven't met but when I read about you I had to find out more. I, like so many others, care so much for you and want you to get back home and back to school and a normal life as soon as possible. I have a 14 year old boy and a 17 year old girl. I told all of my friends, family and co-workers about you and they are thinking good thoughts and saying prayers for you. Get well soon Will...then you can have some good quality pizza and you'll be eating the whole thing! God Bless!

Hi Will, it's Robert. I hope you get better and you like my cards that I sent you. We're thinking of you often and sending good vibes your way. Basketball won't be the same without your dad and my mom for us to beat in the parent game at the end of the year. Remember last year, that was the only game we won! Hopefully we'll do a little better this year. GO BEAVERS!!!!

P.S. Have you read "Chasing Vermeer?" If you have, I can write to you in code and your mom and dad and everyone else won't be able to read what we say to each other - hee, hee!

Hey William,

It's your Uncle Pat! I want you to know that I'm checking your web page everyday for updates on how you're doing, and I'm so happy to hear that you're feeling better. I can't believe how popular your web page has become! You may be getting more hits that your dad's goofy "Duck Pond" or my whacky "Badgermaniac" site.

I laughed out loud when I read about your "Fear Factor" quote (I can just picture you saying it!). My favorite episode of "Fear Factor" was when the people had to drink down huge cups of earthworm shakes. I had just eaten spaghetti, so I can tell you I almost lost it!! Your Aunt Amy says that she could eat or drink any of that gross stuff, but put her in a room full of snakes and she would freak out. Anyway, keep smiling and get better soon so that on my next visit to Oregon, I can play you, your brother, your cousins, your dad and even your Uncle Peter in the basketball game that your cousin Ryley got for Christmas. I know better than to play you or Uncle Peter in any of those XBox or Play Station games, but I do rule at the basketball game!! Take care, big guy...

Love,

Your Uncle Pat the "cheesehead"

Hi Will,

This is Lisa D'Amore, your dad runs with Tom on the mornings Tom decides to get out of bed. I wanted you to know that you have many, many people praying for you. Many children and adults you don't even know. My mom and dad, sister, and aunt are all keeping you in their prayers. Brian, Elle and Matt pray for you every day at their morning prayer service. In fact, I was glad to see the photos on the website because Matt wants to bring a photo of you in to his class to put on the prayer board. You will be famous at St Johns!

If you are anything like you're dad, I know you are strong. Use that strength to get better!

Our family will be pulling for you and your family!

Hi Will, WOW! How incredibly to see all the messages from your friends, family and people who haven't ever met you, like me, but, who care so much about you! I am so glad to hear your days are getting better. I know it probably sucks to feel so crumby! But, the jokes from your friends, I am sure, bring a smile to your face! I hear you like video games...well my two sones do too. My oldest gets many magazines about games and one of them even had a section on finger and hand exercises to keep you in shape for faster, better play. Cracked me up that they would have something like that, but you probably agree with my sons that that is a pretty cool thing and want to try some of them. Hunter rocks at video games and so maybe the hand/finger exercises pays off. I just want him to focus on school more! :) Stay strong little friend! Love, Shanon (a friend of your dad's)

(ha, ha, ha)

Joke 3 from Ali:
How did the gum cross the road?
Answer: It go caught on the chicken's foot. (ha, ha, ha)

Hi Will, This is Helaine and Louie from Lake Tahoe. Remember us? We went down the Rogue River this last 4th of July together, sure wish we were doing that now, don't you? spinining 1-80's and getting wet sounds pretty great. You ought to see it here at the Lake, most snow we have gotten in a very long time. We have about 8ft. outside our front door. Driving to the store is like driving through a big ice cream sundae. Picture it, it's cool. All the sides of the roads where the plows have gone through make the snow look like vanilla fudge swirl ice cream. There's so much snow it looks just like driving through one big sundae, good enough to eat. Well, Will, Louie and I hope you are feeling better each and everyday. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and your Mom, Dad, and Patrick and we sure hope to go down the Rogue River with you again next year...
All our Best,

Dearest Will, I so glad that you are feeling a bit more peppy. I bet those crackers never tasted better. We will be up as soon as the computer arrives and Grandpa can get it up and running. We are reading about how you can get all your school work and keep up with your buddies as you begin to feel better and on the road to recovery I need to share with you a huge problem we have. Roxie bring in a bird everyday and you know what her intent is. Our house is full of feathers. Yesterday as I was on the computer she was playing with her catch under my chair. Grandpa got rid of it immediately. Now we are going to try to put a bell around her neck to warn the poor little birds. Of all the cats we've had she has been the biggest hunter. Joseph II only brought home butterflies.

Hey William,

It's your Uncle Pat the "cheesehead". Madelyn asked me to send you a picture of her that includes a special message. Since I can't post a picture here, I'm going to send it to Grandpa Rog and to your Dad so one of them can print it for you. We'll be sure to keep sending you cool stuff, like pictures from Lambeau Field. Hang in there, big guy!

Love,
Uncle Pat

Hiya Will......you don't know me but I've seen your picture on DentalTown, the website where your Dad talks to all of his buddies involved in dentistry. There's an awful lot of people who know you're going to whip this and be healthy again. I live in the mountains of Montana and have two jack-russell terriers who have been known to chase a grizzly bear. The bears always run away, don't ask me why. I know you'll scare off the leukemia the same way. Knowing you can whip something makes all the difference, just ask my dogs.

Hey Will,

The Nurse said you are one tough kid. All those shots. No one really knows how it feels to go through what you are going through. But, you can be sure to know that all of your family and many others care about you. I am looking forward to going camping with you and Patrick soon. Stay tough. Aunt Chelsea, Baby Jack and I love you

Will-Man! Willster! Will-O-Rama!

How's my crazy nephew? We know your birthday is coming up and you will be 11! Over Christmas, I asked you if you could get any gift you didn't know was already coming, what would it be...and you said an X BOX. Well, we're sending it to you! Only catch is you have to teach me one game that I can beat you in!! I will CONQUER!!!

Madelyn is telling the world to pray for you...everything she makes now, has some special connection to you. She loves you. And you know your Aunt Amy LOVES YOU TO PLUTO [it used to be to the moon, until you told me Pluto was farther. Do you remember that?]

We can't wait to see you again. Take it easy. Bet you'll be glad to get home and see Angie, Salem and Daisy. We will keep in touch, a lot!

Love you, Aunt Amy in Cheese Country

PS: Uncle Pat will be at the Packer game Sunday. Go Packers!

Hi Will-
You don't know me but I just read about you on a website your Dad and I use on the internet. I am a dentist just like him. I wanted to say hi and let you know that there are tons of people that are thinking about you. We all want you to get better really soon and get back to having all the fun you can. I have two kids myself named Will who is almost 7 and Caroline who is 4. Will loves football and basketball. Caroline likes dolls and drawing. Today they went sledding because we had a few inches of snow here in New York. I am going to tell them about you so they can include you in their bedtime prayers tonight.
Get well soon.
