"PATRICK"

Welcome to Patrick's web page. It has been provided to keep friends and family updated on Patrick's progress.

Patrick is 6 years old. He lives with his mom, Shawn and his sister Olyvea who is 1 1/2. Patrick also has two half brothers, Zach 2, and Jonathan 1, with his father William and his step-mom, Melissa.

Patrick is in Kindergarten at Redwood Elementry, he is also a sparrow at his school. Club Northwest sponsered Patrick and all his friends at school have come together to show their love and support for Patrick by doing community service and fundraisers to earn money to help him and his family fight this evil battle. So far Patrick has gone to school 9 whole days this year!

Our story starts on the warm afternoon of September 15th,2004; we went to the grocery store to get some things for dinner. While I was putting Patrick's baby sister in the car he came to me red faced and said, mom I fell down. I looked at Patrick and said, "well your not bleeding anywhere, your fine, get in the car and buckle up". About four miles down the road Patrick bursted into tears and said he was hurting real bad. I pulled the car over and told him to show me where, he pointed to a red area around his groin. When we got home he said he didn't feel good and went straight to his room and curled up in a ball in bed. Later on at dinner time I found him vomitting in the bathroom, and later that night woke up to him crying in pain in bed. I talked to Shawn and we figured maybe he hurt his groin muscle. So the next morning I called the pediatrician, they wanted him in right away. The pediatrician wanted to run some test and thought that maybe Patrick injured his liver in the fall. An hour later Patrick was curled up on my lap sleeping in the waiting room of the hospital. Then I saw the radiology tech dart from his office and scury to the ER. He came back with a wheel chair and said he wanted Patrick to lay down in a bed. Ten minutes later the pediatrician came into the room. He asked me to sit down, the look on his face is one that will be burned into my mind forever. He said that Patrick had a large tumor on his kidney, and when he fell down the tumor errupted and Patrick was bleeding internally. I thought for a minute and asked how bad is the bleeding? He replied, we think it's almost stopped but right now were concerned about the tumor. I said o.k so we need to get it out right? An hour later we began a five hour ambulance ride to Portland Oregon. On September 19,04 Patrick had a surgery to remove a tumor the size of his head, his right kidney and six lymphnodes. September 23,04 Patrick was diagnosed with Wilms' Tumor Stage IV unfavorable histiology. A CAT scan also showed a tumor on Patricks left lung. The Dx gave Patrick twenty seven weeks of chemotherapy and eight days of radiation to his chest and abdomen.
CAT scans on Febuary 18th,2005 have shown no detectable cancer at this point.

April 13th 2005 "Patrick the Great" earned his wings to heaven. His battle is over, his pain is gone, now he can run and play with the angels and watch over us all!
Mom and Dad love you my sweet boy!

Thank You for visiting and getting to know...
"Patrick the Great"!

Well another birthday passed by. Patrick would have been 10 years old this last Wednesday, the 10th! All day I kept thinking of the things that I would have been doing with Patrick on that day. Wondering what he would have been into this year, going to the movies?, going rollar skating?, the family fun center?. He always had big extravagant birthday parties so I'm sure it would have been something very exciting.
I talked to Olyvea about it being Patrick's 10th birthday, she said she wanted to get a birthday cake, take it to the place where he is burried and eat the cake for him!!! I had already bought this beautiful concrete bench with cherubs and angels all over it earlier this summer and was waiting to have help to put it up at his grave, that way there was somewhere to sit when I went up there and sobed and talked to the trees! So I called my friend and her husband and we all went up there early that morning. We cleaned things up a little cemented the concrete bench into the ground so that no one steels it, and we also brought up a beautiful angel to watch over him. My friends son and Olyvea were there, so we brought out the cake and everyone sang Happy Birthday to Patrick and we ate the cake for him! I also tied some balloons to his name plate.
I'm trying so hard to be strong this year, in the past I have just sat in bed and cried all day and refused to speak to anyone. But I do find myself being very sensitive and emotional from trying to hold all this in. It never gets easier, maybe easier to hide, but not easier to deal with.
Olyvea is in Kindergarten this year, she is doing fantastic! The twins are more of a handful than ever, into everything you can imagine at all waking hours of the day! I guess they keep me so busy I don't have time to deal with feelings, but that's o.k cause everything else is life is just perfect right now! I'm getting ready to start baking Christmas goodies.....I just wish it would snow already!!!! I need some more Holiday spirit to get me going this year! It has snowed everywhere except at my house, so that is kinda depressing to me.
Anyhow, I hope everyone is doing well, and I hope you enjoyed reading this! Feel free to leave me messages, I don't check them every day, but when I do get time to check them your messages do leave a smile on my face!

Thanks and "Happy Holidays" :)
