Tuesday, March 1, 2005 5:51 PM CST Hi all--
Been awhile. The best news is that I had my one year check up at Seattle Care Center last week. All went very well. I am 100% donor as far as my stem cells are concerned--and there is no sign of the CML in either the blood or the bone marrow. The doctor took me off Gleevec. I felt a little uneasy stopping because it did so much for me. But there is no reason not to have confidence in my new immune system. I am slowly tapering the prednisone. The sooner I'm off that the better as far as I'm concerned. It has accelerated the osteoporosis--darn. I am still on lots of restrictions in terms of crowds and I still need to eat an immunospressed diet. The worst part of that is going out to restaurants and not being able to order a salad. I guess that's not a lot to complain about. Fatigue continues to be a problem, but it seems like there is an increase in the good days. I still can't have anything to do with my horse because of my immune system. She is one happy camper, just sitting out in the field eating.
The one year anniversary is such a big deal that somehow without realizing it, I had expectations that something would be different. But the word is keep on keeping on. Can't argue with success--and incredible good luck.
