I am writing to you from heaven,
And though it must appear
A rather strange idea,
I see everything from here.

I just popped in to visit
Your store to find a card -
A card of love for my mom,
As this day for her is hard.

There must be some mistake, I thought,
Every card so filled with worth,
Except I could not find one card
From a child whose not on earth.

She is still my mother, too,
No matter where I reside.
I had to leave, she understands,
But, oh, the tears she's cried.

I thought that as I wrote you,
You would come to know
That though I am no longer there,
I still love my mother so.

I visit with her in her dreams,
And she talks with me all the time,
She wonders if that's really me,
Would you let her know I'm fine?

She's planted many flowers,
Where my living memory grows,

Tyler and poohbear,
It has been four and a half years since you went to heaven but the pain in our heart seems like yesterday. Here it is another Christmas and all we can give you is a decoration on your grave,,,,so unfair so sad! I can not wait to go to heaven to see your smiling face again.You brought so much joy into our lives for such a short 11 years but i would never change one second of those 11 years we had you here with us. We all miss you so very much.You are gone from this earth but you live in our hearts minds and souls. With every breath we grieve for your loss. I am so very proud of you for talking to your church. I know that was very difficult for you to do. I'm glad you have your church to lean on. I know how much my church has been helping me. My sister, Micki, had surgery at Cleveland Clinic on Feb. 25 to remove a brain tumor. Everything went well and they were able to get it all.

Hi Susan! I just wanted to thank you again for letting me use Tyler's story this entire semester. It sure has brought my pediatric grade up and opened my eyes to the effect cancer has on individuals and their families. I got a 98.6% on the paper I wrote, a 100% on the care plans I made, and in about a week, I will be doing a powerpoint presentation about Tyler. I feel like I know Tyler so well from the e-mails you have written, and reading this page 25 times. He sure was a sweetheart! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Hi Susan, Rarely a days goes by that I don't think of you. I hope you are feeling a little better. Don't hesitate to reach out to those who have experienced a loss as well. I am unequipped to help you but you being there for me is a great help for me to keep pushing along. I will admit it is very scary to think someone can go through years of treatments to find the cancer keeps coming back. I also don't understand quite why our children had to get such a rare form of ALL. Definitely not fair at all.

I know that Our Tyler angel is so very proud of his mommy and i know he walked every step of the way with you in nursing school as you walked every step of the way with him Thur out his short 11 yrs here and Thur out his cancer battle .You will be so rewarded in heaven and here on earth honey .Every time you look into the eyes of another child with cancer and are nursing them you will be looking into the eyes of Tyler telling you he is with you and to keep up the wonderful job.He did not die in vain Susan he did it with pride and honor and he left you a special gift to help you better your self in your life till you reunite with him .He gave you a reason to go on and to help other children the way you helped him and were there for him .You are a hero in my eyes and i am so proud to be your mother!!!!!

Dear Susan, Thank you for your note. Yes, this seems to have gotten much harder this summer to be in the hospital. I know Tyler went through so much more and so much longer than Katherine. It is very difficult right now. Everyone is going places on vacation, enjoying summer festivities and here we are with a life threatening illness. It was particularly hard to tell our China travel group we would not be attending the reunion next month. Thank you for being there for us. It really does help.

hey susan... I dont know if you remember me. its courtney shoup. Caitlin's sister. i'm sorry i havent talked in such a long time. i think about tyler everyday. i miss and love him so much. I didnt have the guts to write on the 12th... it was a pretty hard day for all of us. i still have the picture of me and him at the air show... when cait was sick.

I wish he was still here.. as everyone else does... i hope we can catch up sometime susan.. tyler would like that. I try to do whatever i can to get awareness of this horrible disease that took tyler, kevin, and all of the other children. I just had a fundraiser at my school a couple weeks ago and we all brought in boxes of bandaids. [6th and 7th] and we had 4 huge boxes full of bandiads and me and cait took them up to the clinic. so as i said.. i'm doing what ever i can to keep not noly awareness going, but his spirt.

I decided to finally write. I miss him so much Susan, and i know you do to. I went to my councsler and asked for suggestions. And so i wrote a letter to tyler. I told him everything that was going on, what was happening, how i missed him, and that i keep living for him. and i'm gonna find a cure for his cancer and help all of the other kids. i think about what he would say to me each day, and remember all of the memories we had in the hospital. Hes always and forever in my heart. I think about 24/7 and when ever you need anything... you can tell me. I'm here for your family susan.

Susan, I am thinking of you daily. My hope for you is to have some peace and be surrounded by your family and friends. While only a select few can fully understand your pain, please know others love and care about you. You are making Tyler proud each and every day. I am in awe that you'd like to be a peds nurse. I am freaking out on things that go wrong here on my end. I am doing the best I can, but am very scared. No one understands how FULL time this is (except of course the "been there done that" parents). Every little movement of pain worries me. She is too young to fake pain. She couldn't take the Gleevec orally because we had to dilute it and she got mucositis once (lost 6 lbs) and other times it would not stay down. OK, I'll stop rambling. You take care and I'll be thinking of you and praying for your peace and comfort.

Dear Susan: I have spent hours pouring over your journal trying to gain an understanding of what you and Tyler went through. My daughter also was diagnosed with ALL Ph+. She is adopted, so there is no family history for a donor. We are doing the aggressive inpatient chemo and it has been very difficult. We are in the hospital more than we are home.

I admire your enormous strength and your relentless fight you fought for Tyler. You are such an incredible woman. Thank you so much for having your journal available.

Best of luck as you move forward with your studies. The best advise I can give for that is to almost let everything else take a back seat and focus as much on your studies as you can. I was never good at that, but my husband was and always did very well.
