Sydney Lynn Welch

April 21, 2003 - March 17, 2004

Sydney was diagnosed in August of 2003 with a form of leukemia called AML (acute myelogenous leukemia). She soon after began to undergo chemotherapy to destroy the leukemia cells in her body. She endured spinal taps, bone marrow biopsies, bone scans, MRI scans, blood transfusions, platelet transfusions, shots, nausea, surgery to insert a double-lumen broviac directly into her chest, and more during her almost 4 month stay at Toledo Children's Hospital. The treatments worked and Sydney's leukemia was sent into remission. However, any hopes for a cure depended on finding a perfect bone marrow match for Sydney so that she could undergo a bone marrow transplant.

A search began and a single person was found to be a match for Sydney. Although the donor remains anonymous, we know that she is 46 years old, female, and that she lives outside of The United States. An ANGEL from around the globe!

On December 4th Sydney was admitted to The University of Michigan's Mott Children's Hospital and began a VERY intense round of chemotherapy for 8 straight days to prepare her for the transplant. By the grace of God on the night of December 17, 2003 Sydney's precious marrow arrived at the airport and was brought straight to the hospital. That night, while resting in her mothers' arms and sitting next to her father, Sydney recieved a gift from an unsellfish stranger that she may never meet. A group of 16 people (family, friends, doctors, nurses, and her pastor) watched and prayed as Sydney smiled and played!

Sydney continued to show the power of prayer as she fought her way past obstacles in her road to a full recovery!

Sydney touched the hearts of many and changed the lives of all who knew her.

PRAISE GOD FOR SENDING US ONE TOUGH LITTLE GIRL!!!
