Welcome to our Childs Web Page. We have created this page to keep everyone informed of Shane's progress.Shane was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblasic Leukemia Philadelphia Chromosome Positive in 1992 at the age of 4. He underwent 2 years of chemo. In 1999, Shane relapsed and underwent and unrelated bone marrow transplant. He remained cancer free until August of 2002. Intense chemo was given in an effort to again achieve remission and undergo another transplant. Shane passed away on October 2, 2002. He left and impact of all of those who knew him and continues to be an inspiration to all.

I have to do one final update. I am finding the days harder to face as time goes on..maybe time will ease the pain I am told, but I cannot imagine. When Shane passed away, he took a part of me with him. I never knew that you could miss someone so much. I visit his room often and find it hard to believe that he is not coming home. I kiss his pillow good-night every night before I go to bed. I ask why? Why did he have to go? Why did he have to suffer? Why?

I find a little comfort in reading the guestbook still and being reminded of what an impact Shane had on all of Ironton and beyond. I knew that Shane had left a legacy in Ironton when he received a standing ovation as he left the school gym for the final time. He was with us all that day..I could feel his prescence.

"Shane Jones" is a true spirit that will live on in all our hearts forever. I look around Ironton and it seems so different from when I left in early August. I see kindness, love, determination, courage, and strength in all of I-Town. Was one child able to change this small town into the wonderful place it has turned into? I sure hope so. Ironton is a place that I can stand up and say I am proud to be a part of.

"Tiger Spirit" has taken on a whole new meaning. When we think of "tiger spirit" now, we not only think of strength and winning..we now think of kindness, love, courage, and the will to "never give up" even when you can't win the fight. It is now ok to not always win the battle as long as you give it all you heart and soul and know that you did you very best in trying. That is the true meaning of winning and being a true Tiger at heart.

It took the heart of an Eagle Football coach, the undying will to live and "never give up" of a young Tiger, and the love of an entire community to teach us all to be true Tiger fans.

I want to thank each and every one of you for giving me the strength to face each day. I have read so many times that I am such a great mom, etc...I was nothing without Shane. He made me who I am today and who I will always be. As I face each day...I try to think to myself "What would Shane do?"
Shane didn't cave into to pain, to peer pressure or to obstacles too big to overcome. He faced each day head on with his head up and "never gave up." If he could do it, I can do it! I will face each day in a way that would make my Shaney proud and will live out the rest of my life in "Shane's way." I look around me and see that he taught that to so many. It makes me so proud to have raised a child that had to strength and courage to change an entire community..an entire would.

When I look around and see all the love in Ironton each day...I know that Shane's spirit is alive. That makes each day a little easier to face...knowing he is watching and that he is proud of each and every on of us.

This is my final post....and I close with on request. Let's all keep that true "Tiger Spirit" alive for Shane. Let's let him know that he did win the fight by touching all our lives and making us the best that we can be. I know he is waving that big Ironton flag up in heaven every Friday night and that he is with us each and every day. Heaven truly has a new special Angel that is making all of heaven smile tonight with that beautiful "fish face" of his.

Shane was a HERO ,your HERO, Ironton's HERO, my HERO.
