Jacob's Journey

Sea World June 2011...

Welcome to Jacob Cady's Journey. We created this web site to keep loved ones and those praying for us, informed on Jakes progress after being diagnosed with Liver Cancer. Here is a snapshot of his journey to date:

December 03-February 04: Diagnosis and 3 rounds of Chemo (ICE/VDC/ICE)

March 04: God directed us to Dr Casas at AI DuPont Hospital for Children, where she, Dr. Dunn and the entire staff at DuPont saved our boy's life. Jake received Liver Transplant in Wilmington Delaware via Living Donor and forever our hero; Tom Dusza.

March/April 04: Recovery from Transplant and the beginning of post transplant chemo

May, June, July 04: 4 rounds of post liver transplant chemo ICE/ICE/VDC/VDC
Clean scans!!

August 04-Sept.06: Continued health and clean scans

Well another 2 years have passed since our last post. This month is Children's Cancer Awareness month so I am compelled to submit a post. Jacob continues to do well. He participated in a study at Cincinnati Children's to be weened off of his immunosuppression medication. It's a 4 year study and we are starting the 4th year, he has been off immunosuppression for 2 years now with no rejection. He was taking Tacrolimus (prograf). The only medication he takes is low dose blood pressure medication. Jacob continues to amaze us, he is 6' tall and 185 lbs. He is now 15 yrs. old and excited to get his temporary license in 2 months, lol. He is in 10th grade and does fairly well in school. He continues to play tennis year round, basketball and baseball. He enjoys hanging out with friends, swimming and playing video games. He and his brother are into playing the old school video game systems like Nintendo 64.

If anyone comes across our page and has questions about Jacob's treatment please feel free to contact us. I am happy to help.

Well, as always thanks to Tom Dusza - Jake's donor, Dr. Jasty - oncologist, Dr. Casas-Melley and Dr. Stephen Dunn transplant docs that were at DuPOnt Childrens and Dr. Bucuvalas at Cincinnati Childrens and all of our family and friends this journey wouldn't have had the same outcome without the perseverance and dedication of everyone involved. God bless.
