Welcome to Emily's Web Page.

This is set up to keep everyone updated about Emily. Emily was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome in October of 2002, but for two years we waited until the myelodsysplasia started to supress her bone marrow making it start to fail before she needed a bone marrow transplant. Myelodyplasia is not very common in children. Her myelodysplasia was caused by two missing chromosomes that Emily was born without. Eventually her myelodysplasia would have caused her to have AML which would have been uncurable without a bone marrow transplant.

In April of 2004 her bone marrow started to fail. The doctors at Cincinnati Children's Medical Center and I thought it would be best for her if she received her transplant before she actually had any cancer cells. She received her new bone marrow on November 20, 2004 at Cincinnati Children's Medical Hospital. We have been back and forth staying mostly in Cincinnati after the transplant, but at last we are at home!

We stayed in Cincinnati for our "100 days post transplant" and then some.
This has been quite a journey, and Emily has gone through so much never complaining.

Emily is so brave, and I am so proud of her. Emily deals with alot, and she seems to handle it well. Not only is she going through all of this, but her dad is also in Afganistan and he has been there basically since 2003.

So long since my last entry. Emily is now a big 8th grader and just turned 14 on February 24th. I cannot believe it. She still goes to Cincinnati Children's for endocrine problems but she is getting that situated with some meds. She is doing well in school and currently not really doing any extracurricular activities. She wants to start back to dance but that is all for now. Emily is happy and healthy and it is wonderful she is doing so well!

Thanks for checking her webpage!

Amanda
