OUR HERO

Thank you for visiting Tanner's webpage. Tanner has been diagnosed twice with two different cancers within the first 3 years of his life. First he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a cancer of the nervous systems, when he was 8 months old. he had 5 rounds of chemo, 1 surgery to remove his adrenal gland 2 stem cell transplants, 15 rounds of radiation and accutane for 4 months. He was dx in June of 2004 and declared NED ( no evidence of disease) in Nov of 04. All went well until July of 06 when he needed a surgery to remove scar tissue from his abdomen that wrapped around is intestines. that went fine and was just a week in the hospital. He was doing rountine scans every 3 months and blood work monthly. On Oct 23, 2006 we went to the clinic for routine blood test. They told us that they are seeing some abnormal cells in this blood. they following day they did a bone marrow biopsy and found out he had AML. This is a very aggressive cancer and is very hard to treat. So again we are here with the odds stacked against us. we are battling again and hope to come out on top in the end. Thank you for stopping by and caring about Tanner and his never ending battles with cancer..

Journal

Ok, here I am to update again. Been a while again. But when there isn't much to report, I tend not to get on here.

I will start by saying that today marks the 5 year anniversary of Tanner's original NB diagnosis. 5 Years ago today my mom and I were sitting in the clinic getting the worst news I had ever heard at the time. It was so hard to even imagine that we would be here today with a very healthy kid. We sure have gone through alot in the last 5 years. It def. was not a breeze. As it never is when you have a child with cancer. I do have several anniversaries that I "celebrate/recognize" for Tanner. Today would be one of them because it is the day that changed our lives forever. I also recognize the month of January as well, because that is when he had the life saving bone marrow transplant. I am so thankful that he is doing so well right now. The doctors are dumbfounded about the whole thing. That is great. I am glad he has not followed the "norm". There are days that I can go and not even think about the cancer and it coming back, and then I have my days that it is just sitting there in my head. Cancer is a scary thing. It can just pop up on you at anytime without warning. That is one reason why I am so scared about waiting until January to see the doctor again. We went in early May and they said that he is doing so well they dont want to see him til he is 3 years post BMT. Holy Crap! I dont know if I can go that long without a simple blood test LOL. I will def. try.

Well, as I said, things have been going pretty good here. The kids seem to be enjoying their summer time. Not sure fond of the 100+ weather that we are having here, but we manage. Just a few trips to the lake and/or pelican bay and they are usually good. We are getting excited that Gramma Jutta and Grampa are coming out to visit on the 18th of July. We are going to sweat it out in Texas at Six Flags for a day. But we will still have fun. Then the kiddos are going back to NY with them for 2 weeks. I will def. miss them. But I am sure they will really enjoy being able to see everyone.

Other than that not much else. I did start a new job. After 12 years of service with Bob Moore, they let me go for the dumbest reason......doing my job. It had nothing to do with layoffs due to the economy, I think it had to do with their own personal reasons and having someone work for "them" who knew more than they did. Anyways.....kids start school on Aug 18th. Tanner starts Kindergarten and I am very excited for him. He keeps asking when he gets to go to the big kid school. He will do speech therapy I beleive twice a week for about 25 minutes each time. Very happy for him.

I am taking Tanner to his favorite resturant for lunch today, PF Changs. I want to be able to celebrate the fact that he is still here with us after all this time and take him to the one place I know he LOVES

Alright, well, i have to get the couple things I have in front of me done before I leave early today. Sorry for the delay in posting.

Bye for now.
