Hello Kim, I am so thrilled to have come across your page. I was looking for info on L&L boards regarding bone/joint pain post dexamethasone for my 8yr old who has Pre B All-Standard risk. I found your post regarding the AVN. I want to congratulate you on completing treatment, your amazing journey is an inspiration. It sounds like you had an awesome time at that retreat. All the best on your nursing degree. That is absolutely wonderful. ~Ginger, Mom to Olivia www.caringbridge.org/visit/oliviajimenez

Hey, I found your page while researching AVN. My 9-year old daughter is one-month post-chemo for NHL and has developed hip and leg pain. We had some x-rays today and an MRI is being scheduled. I would love to hear about the diagnosis and treatment of your AVN. I am glad to see that you are doing well and pursuing a career in nursing (I want to too!) (BTY her caringbridge site is "ashleyfinn") Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you. ~Shannon Finn

Hi Kim-- I've enjoyed reading your blog. I'm sitting here in the hospital room where my 13 year old daughter Mady has been receiving treatment for ALL for almost 4 weeks. She's REALLY ready to go home, but we all know it will be a long battle. We're also keeping a blog: http://www.madysparents.blogspot.com/ It's definitely inspiring to read a success story like yours. Thank you for sharing...

Blessed Father's Day
For Fatherly Guidance

Lord God, author of all wisdom,
Teach me how to do my work as a father according to your will.
Enlighten my mind that I may understand what to tell my children when it is necessary to give them direction or advice.
Give me good judgment to understand true spiritual values and to guide my family in your ways.
The world makes little of your wisdom and is not instructed in your ways, and close contact with the world makes it easy to become dulled to the things of solid spiritual worth.
Be my guide at all times, that I may be a true father and husband, sensitive always to the divine wisdom that only you can impart.
God, by the light of the Holy Spirit you instruct the hearts of your faithful.
Grant that I may be truly wise and ever enjoy his consolation, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Praying for you,
Barb, John, Shawn,
Shannon, & Colleen

I'm sure you will treat your patients with abundance of TLC with your personal medical background.
“Love...It bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.”
(1 Corinthians 13:7)

A Mother's love is something
that no on can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish
and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it
or take that love away . . .
It is patient and forgiving
when all others are forsaking,
And it never fails or falters
even though the heart is breaking . . .
It believes beyond believing
when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty
of the rarest, brightest gems . . .
It is far beyond defining,
it defies all explanation,
And it still remains a secret
like the mysteries of creation . . .
A many splendoured miracle
man cannot understand
And another wondrous evidence
of God's tender guiding hand.

Jelly beans & Jesus

Have you heard the story of the jelly beans?

Little jelly beans
Tell a story true.
A tale of our Father's love
That's just for me and you.

GREEN is for the new spring grass.
YELLOW is for the sun above.
BROWN is for the soft earth where
People sat hearing of HIS love.

PURPLE'S for the robe he wore
RED is for that precious wine.
BLACK is for the sins He washed
From your soul and mine.

BLUE'S for the sadness of
HIS friends and family,
and is for the glory of the Day
HE rose for you and me.

Now that you've heard the story
You know what each color means.
The story of our Father's love
As told by jelly beans.
So when you see jelly beans on this Easter season,
stop and remember,
Jesus is the reason!

"For God so loved the world, He gave His One and Only Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

I was thinking of you today and thought I'd drop by. Cady is doing great also! Isn't it amazing how quickly life slides back into this new "normal"?

I'm so glad to see you are involved with Camp Good Days! It sounds like a wonderful new addition to their programs.

Are you going to nursing school? Thought I saw something in your journal about it!

Hope you see you soon...OUTSIDE of the clinic!

Hi Kim,

Last weekend I finished another race with your name across my jersey! It was the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco and my 3rd time doing this race with you as an honored teammate! There were about 15,000 runners (95% women and 4,500 with Team in Training). We raised $16 million for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Can you imagine?

Kim, thank you for keeping your website up to date. I look forward to hearing how you are doing, especially how you are feeling with the final treatment behind you. Are you there, yet?

Looking at your pictures of your camp experience realizing that most of the girls you took pictures of have/had cancer gives us all hope. They all looked so healthy and happy now. It would be interesting to hear each of their stories and how they had to adjust to this awful challenge they were put it.

I am so sorry to hear about your friend Jimmy and I will hold him and his family in my thoughts and prayers. Do you think it would be okay if I wore his name on my jersey?

Kim, as you approach your final stretch of treatment, know that you will be in my thoughts. Thank you so much for sharing how you are feeling, both excited and scared. It's okay to feel the range of emotions. It means you are alive!

Red is for the blood He gave.
Yellow is for His son so bright.
Black is for the sins we made.
Purple is for His hours of sorrow.
Green is for the grass He made.
Orange is for the moon at night.
White is for the grace He gave.
Pink is for our new tomorrow.

Hi Kim!

Last weekend I ran in the Nike 26.2 in San Francisco for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. It was another race in your honor which I love to do. I had names of many folks all over my jersey, about 30 or 40 all together. Evidently because your name was horizontal, folks thought my name was Kim. All throughout the race people were calling out, "GO KIM!" "YOU CAN DO IT, KIM"

At first I was going to change the position of your name so folks wouldn't keep calling me Kim, but then I decdied to just leave it and would call back, "Yeah! Go Kim!" You were definitely with me through all those hills.

My training is going well for the Honolulu Marathon. I did the half in San Francisco and will do the whole 26.2 in Hawaii. My fundraising commitment for these 2 races is $5,970 and as of this moment I have raised $5,695!!!!

Thanks for sharing a link to my Team in Training website.

You are on my mind so much, Kim, and I really appreciate that you keep up with your website.

I am glad to hear that things are uneventful. Uneventful is beautiful. I can't wait to hear what you think of the Jay Leno concert. Have fun there.

Hi Kim,

I’m one of “those guys” that work with your dad and I’m very impressed with your attitude and perseverance. I know that it can be very difficult to keep going at times.
I was diagnosed with cancer of the larynx in Feb. 1996. Went thru a long period of radiation along with a bunch of other treatments but still ended up having my voice box removed. But the bottom line is, I’m still here! I counsel patients that are going thru the same thing that I did and I’m convinced that attitude is the single biggest factor in beating the big “C”. When I read thru your journal, your attitude and determination shows thru like a bright shining light. It’s okay to feel down every once in a while but then it’s time to get back up and keep going, which are you doing.
All my best to you and you’ll have a special place in my prayers.

Kim,
I have worked with your dad here at J&J for about 10 years and we bowled together for quite of few of those years. Anyway, he has keep us well informed of your condition and we are so thankful that you are back in school. As you may remember, I organized the group shopping certificate for you at the Greece-Ridge Mall. The people here at J&J are very caring towards you and your family. I'm sure you will reach your goal for your walk now that the message is out to the people here at work. May God Bless you through this school year and for the times ahead.

I work with your dad at OCD. He has kept us up to speed on your progress. I know it is a tough fight, but you will prevail, I am sure. You have a lot going for you, keep up the good work and don't let anything get you down. Your mental state is half the battle.
I remember you in my prayers.

Hi Kim,

I don't know if you remember me but you gave may daughter Colleen and me a tour of the Binghamton campus a couple years ago when she was considering colleges. I first met you at Pat Dowes house when she had a summer picnic. I work with your dad at OCD and he forwarded your web site to us so we could drop you a line.

I'm glad to hear you're doing better and that you're back at school. That in itself is quite an achievement! Nothing better for your health than to have reports to write, tests to take, late night study sessions.... on second thought maybe there are better ways to relax.

It certainly is a long road to recovery but I'll bet you have the strength to overcome this challenge. I was in a similar situation when I was 6 years old (many years ago). I was diagnosed with cancer and went throught 3 years of treatment. Treatment options were limited back then but here I am 42 years later and going strong. This type of experience only makes you stronger and really does put things into perspective as to what really matters in life. I'm looking forward to my 50th anniversary (June 2013)and thank God every day for another chance.

You have some work ahead of you but keep looking forward. I wish you the best and will keep you in my prayers.

Kim,
I'm so glad to hear you are back at Binghamton. As we took our daughter, Katherine, to school for her senior year and her first off-campus apartment in Binghamton, I couldn't help but think of your family doing the same thing last year. Your Mom keeps me up to date on your progress and I'm so glad your health has improved enough that you could return to school. You are an incredible inspiration to "regular people" like us. I wish you all the best and will keep you in my prayers.

Dear Kim,

I am thinking of you as you go back to school in a surreal situation. You already began your senior year and here you are to do it again. How courageous you are to step back into the life you left a year ago. You are only one year older, but so much wiser, Kim. To think that you are giving yourself chemo alone puts things into perspective doesn't it?

I am continuing to train for the races I have signed up for in your honor. There are days when I truly don't feel like getting out there to run, but I think of you and get inspired right away. Thank you for being my honored teammate once again, Kim!

So far, close to $1,000 has been raised for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!

Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as you go through your days at college.

Hi Kim,
I'm so glad that you are doing so well after what you have been through, and going back to your studies. My son Allan at 21 years old in May 2004 was diagnosed with ALL, and had a non-related bone marrow transplant in October 2004 - soon a year since the BMT and doing really well. Of course he had the usual side effects of chemo and radiation, and some rejection. He is feeling great now, lots of energy, and really looking forward to going back to university next week to resume his 3rd year toward a B.Music. I wish you the best of luck. Take care.

Kim, It's hard to believe that it is almost 1 year since we received the phone call from the doctor which changed our lives - and what a year it has been. The nightmare of being told you have leukemia and the side effects of the chemotherapy and radiation. At the same time, we experienced the blessing of such strong support from our family and friends. I don't think we could have made it through this ordeal without them.

I can't believe that you will be going back to school tomorrow. I have mixed feelings. I will miss you so much. But at the same time, I know that this is what we have been praying for. I am so proud of you. You have such a quiet, inner strength. You have amazed me with how well you have handled your illness.
I love you. Remember - I will only be a phone call (or 3-hr drive) away.

To the Object of my Infection:
It has been so great to see you progress throughout what seems more than a year. I look up to you in so many ways, many I can't even begin to describe in words. The amount of courage and dedication is more than I know that I could have put forth. And throughout it all you have been there for anyone who needs you (which is probably everyone who's life you have touched). I just wanted you and everyone who is checking up on you what a great friend you are, and I wouldn't change you for the world. You are not only my best friend, but also the sister God didn't give me.

Hi Kim,

I am training for a race in your honor once again. Thank you so much for being my honored teammate. Here is a link to the website. I keep trying to get a picture of you in there, so far no luck. In the meantime, I wrote a letter which I will send to you and that has your picture along with a link to your website here.

I am thinking of you as you get ready for school. When I was your age, your Mom and I did some crazy things. One of them was joining R.O.T.C. (Reserve Officers Training Corps). Lately I have gotten into storytelling and tonight I am rehearsing for a performance in which I tell the story of when your Mom's platoon tried to ambush mine. Although we were in Army ROTC, we were on maneuvers with the REAL Army guys. Your Mom laid in the snow waiting paitiently in a prone position with her M-16 rifle aimed and ready for us to innocently ride by. Only problem was we got stuck in a snow bank and had to wait for our enemy to get us out. Early in the morning I was asked by the Commander of the day if I was TC. I answered, "Yes sir." After all, my friends often called me TC since my name at the time was Terry Clancy. I felt happy that a REAL Army guy knew who I was. I was riding in the tank directing our driver at the time we got stuck. Once we were freed from the snow bank and met up with all the other troops for lunch, your Mom was standing there shivering, teeth chattering, freezing cold and wet from being in the snow. Someone approached us and asked me, "How did YOU get to be TC?" "What do you mean? I AM TC." I asked. "How did you get to be Tank Commander?" I think that's the day I decided not to join the Army. Your Mom was a good sport and never held it against me. We're still friends to this day.

My wish for you is that you meet someone as wild and crazy as your Mom (or as that TC person). I am sending you lots of love and just know that you are always in my prayers.

Love, Terry Jordan <Tjord1017@aol.com>

Hi Kim, Sorry to hear your first week of maintenance was a rough one but happy to hear you are in the maintenance phase. I am sure you have many tough days but the poise you have with dealing with this awful illness amazes me. Just want you to know we have and will continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Hugs, Janet McNally

Hey Kim- I was so shocked to hear of your illness, but by what I have seen on your site, you are getting through it with the same positive attitude I always remember you having. I am sad that we lost touch over the years, but I'm in rochester and would love to keep in touch with you and the whole gymnastics crew. Nearly all of my favorite gymnastics memories include you, and you truly are an inspiration! Please keep smiling, and most importantly, laughing!!! :)

Kim,

I finished the Rock n Roll Marathon in your honor a week ago. Your name was on a ribbon attached to the front of my jersey and was also on my back. I thought of you so much and told stories about your courage.

I love that movie you shared. I cried as I watched. You have cancer, Kim...but cancer certainly doesn't have you.

Love, Terry

Hi Kim,

I have been thinking of you a lot lately. Thank you so much for keeping up with everyone through this webpage. I am sorry to hear that you are going through the avascular necrosis in your hip and hope that there is something to stop that process soon.

It sounds like a bittersweet visit to your school getting your stuff. You have been sent on quite a different journey this past year, much more intense and demanding than any college course could ever be.

Kim, thank you so much for agreeing to be my honored teammate as I train and race for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Over $5,500 was raised which is awesome.

I finished one of the races in honor of you last month here in Portland Oregon. Next week, I will be running the San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon with you as my honored teammate.

I have decided to run yet another Marathon in October and would once again like to have you as an honoree if that is okay with you?

I noticed that my website is not up anymore, so I need to work on that and will send you another link.

In the meantime, send good thoughts my way on June 5th as I run the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon with you in my heart. The race begins at 6:30 am and will take me about 6 hours. I'll be thinking of you all day...how much easier it is to run a marathon than to be receiving chemotherapy. You are my hero, Kim.

Many blessings to you, Kim and tell your Mom and everyone I send my love,

Hi Kim,
Just thought I would check in on you, to see how you are doing. I see that it is methotrexate day ( A big ol' Yuck on that!) I can't believe that they have not found anything for you on the nausea yet. Forgive me for not being up to date but, did they try cutting the dose, or try zofran yet? Sometimes there isnt much that they can do and it feels like it is endless but there is light at the end of this awful disease, I see that same sparkle in you that I see in devon and you guys will conquer this monster with a smile. Hope METHO day went okay. Hang in there..Love, Lacy and Devon

HI Kim, I am glad your Mom sent me this web site. What a great idea to keep everyone updated. You are in our thoughts and prayers. I am sure you have your bad times but your strength that comes through in your journal entries amazes me. I will say some extra prayers that the avascular necrosis in your hip will improve. You are going through enough without that addition. Stay strong and keep your faith. With prayers and positive thoughts your way. Hugs, Janet ( I am your Mom's friend from skating at RSC)

Hi Kim, This is Lacy...Devon's Mom and I wanted to say thank you for signing his guest book, your thoughtful messages brought a smile to Devon's face. We are still battling one infection after another but we have faith that we will get over this mountain that seems to grow larger with every step.I read that you have avascular necrosis in your hip, that is the same thing they are thinking that Devon has. We go for a second opinion next week. Both of his femur bones in both legs show horrific damage and most days he has trouble walking(sent him home in a wheel chair and said wait it out)The things that all of you go through just breaks my heart and to see the smiles on your faces is a true inspiration. Again thank you, and I hope all is well with you. God bless, Lacy www.caringbridge.org/de/devon

Hi Kim,
I am a friend of Carol Cipura's and eat lunch with her often. I am also your father's Administrative Assistant although I don't know Frank very well. What courage you have to fight and defeat this terrible illness. We all hear stories like yours but find it difficult to imagine how we would be able to deal with our own children having so much discomfort. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you complete your treatment. I wish you all the best in your years to come - I am sure this will make you a better person in the long run, although Carol tells me you were always a great person to begin with.

Hey Kimmy-
I like the website it is a nice way to communicate to your family and friends to let them know how you are doing. It sounds like your treatment is going pretty well. I hope you are staying as positive and strong as you always are. My mother recovered from two different cancers, breast and uterine and recovery rates are improving everyday. Bad things happen to good people unfortunately, but its how you make the best of the bad situation that separates the good people from the great people. Be strong and stay positive. Before you know it things will be back to normal, but you have that greater appreciation and perspective that most of us lack. I look forward to seeing you in person soon.

Hi, Kim K. We're so glad your mom forwarded us your website link. You tell an amazing story, and we love your pictures. You have no idea how much you're spoken and thought about. We have such awesome memories of you ... from way back in your baby and toddler yrs at Hilton Day Care, then the Northwood yrs, right up through middle school and those gymnastics yrs (even your Woodward stories), and then high school w/your pole vaulting. Your smile and personality were contagious ... always happy go lucky and a pleasure to be around! Am sure those traits will get you over this hurdle. You're so much stronger than the rest of us! Keep your head up, and hi to the rest of your family for us. Thinking of you, Kim K ... Carol, Theo, and Kim C :)

This web site is such a great idea for keeping us all updated. Chin up & high spirits, each day is a SPECTASTERIFAGORICAL one. One step at a time. I'm looking forward to the next big trip together, so fight this thing off so we can go have some more fun on the islands. I missed the winter slopes together. I only went once this year, last weekend in Mass, remember Butternut. We'll be out there slicing up the snow again real soon, right.

Hi Kim,

I am a friend of your Uncle Dennis. He showed me your picture on the web site and I decided that you're very attractive and well connected into that wonderful Cibotti family. Have you ever done any modeling? He also told me about Paul but you have to admit that I am better looking.

You and your family are inspirational in the way you are coping with daily cancer treatment. It is such a difficult time for all of you. Our thoughts are with you. It is great you are planning to return to school in September.

Since you are taken, I notice in the picture that you have a "hot" sister - Kristen. Hey - if she doesn't have a prom date give me a call. I hear she is 16 going on 21. I'm a little old but I have money thanks to the expert financial advice your Uncle Dennis has given me. I should have listened to him when he told me not to marry Jen.

Keep up your spirits.

Also, my friend was diagnosed with ALL when she was 21. I am happy to report that was about 10 years ago and she is married and has kids now. She is proof that there is a good life after this chemo crap is over with! I wish you the strength to fight each day to get over this. You can do it!

Kim,
I love you and i miss you! You are in my thoughts and prayers everysingle day and i never doubt your strength and ability to get through this with a smile. I am one of the luckiest people in the world to have you in my life and pretty much all of my childhood memories

Hey Kim we miss you so much here!!! This year is definatly not the same without you and your asian flush...which i do not get. Everything has been OK here but jsut a little too busy...Its like just yesterday we were all freshman on the track team not knowing what to do and just going out all the time and getting bad GPA's...Remember the time you tumbled in the Old Union? HAHA and the goold ol' snafu puns...I hope you recover soon so we can see you!! Don't worry I'll be here next year for the 3rd major haha...Miss you so much Kimmy.
Love James.
